  1. So I was perusing my local record shop today and came across a copy of Azealia Bank's Broke With Expensive Taste. The girl behind the counter says it was not a bootleg (and I very much trust her) plus there is a version now listed on discogs. Apparently it was released sometime around Halloween. http://www.discogs.com/Azealia-Banks-Broke-With-Expensive-Taste/release/7662802 Figured I'd create a post to raise awareness for people who have been waiting for this. Seems stocks may be pretty low (it's listed as "limited" which I always take with a grain of salt, but is also seemingly sold out a lot of places online // takes extra days via Amazon). I also wanted to see if anybody here had already purchased and, if so, what the sound quality on it is like...
  2. Right, but it was also heavily electronic and pop in a more traditionally 4AD sense (think Cocteau Twins for example). Art Angels borders on straight up bubble gum.
  3. Was very disappointed at first. If it had been anything other than a Grimes album I probably wouldn't have given it a second chance. Now, despite being very much a pop album, it has managed to grow on me quite a bit. Not sure whether I'll wind up buying the vinyl, nor whether it'll wind up being an album I listen to years down the line, but it's in heavy rotation for the moment. And at the very least, it is very much an album that only Grimes could have made....
  4. Yeah, but has been sitting a top my most anticipated list for several years now. Last album I was this hyped for a release on was probably either To Pimp a Butterfly or In Rainbows (large time gap there I know).
  5. Sound quality on leak? I'm having a hard time waiting on this one.
  6. Welll, to put things in perspective: Grimes put out one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2012 (it was on nearly every critic's list that year, and its legacy has grown over time). Visions wound up changing the landscape of both modern pop and electronica and is likely to wind up near the top of most end-of-the-decade-lists. So it's not like she's an unknown. And for the record, I like Lana (or at least, I like Ultraviolet) and I'm also no spring chicken (I'm 29). Also, I'm shocked that Grimes was supposedly bad live. She is known as a great live performer (and the footage I've seen of her on things like KEXP would indicate as much). “Modern” is the only word for Visions, an intensely nuanced master-work of pop collage, pegging down bubblegum synth-pop and 90s R&B and K-pop and metallic IDM with Boucher's distinctive falsetto, variously featherlight or fierce. Along with 2012's "Vanessa", Visions soundtracks Grimes' ongoing claim for space in the continuum of great pop eccentrics. In the time since its release, this record has become omnipresent; at least in New York, I cannot go a week without hearing it at some bar or café, but most often it loops in my head, an antidote". Listed at #15 for the decade (they had it at #7 for that year): http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/9465-the-top-100-albums-of-2010-2014/5/ Listed at #2: http://www.nme.com/blogs/the-big-picture/50-best-albums-of-2012 Listed at #26: http://www.stereogum.com/1210661/stereogums-top-50-albums-of-2012/franchises/list/ Listed at #33: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/50-best-albums-of-2012-20121205 Listed at #1: http://www.gorillavsbear.net/gorilla-vs-bears-albums-of-2012/ And that's just a small sampling of lists. Point being, I'd encourage you to reapproach her music. Here are some places to start:
  7. Appreciate the looking out. Unfortunately they are sold out via the webstore. And everywhere else they are 30+.
  8. I find it crazy that the boxset price was such a steal and yet, when taken individually, these albums are quite expensive. All I want is Electro-Shock Blues... but for $30+...?
  9. Struggled to get Imgur to post it at a reasonable size (first time that has happened). Here's the link: http://imgur.com/8jnqdLG
  10. You are most certainly right with your first assertion. Hopefully correct on the second one too. Gonna pick this one up from my local shop unless they announce a Deluxe.
  11. $25? .... Looks like the indie lables are starting to get as greedy as the majors.
  12. I will post a pic when I get home from work presuming somebody doesn't beat me to it. The album color is closer to an Easter yellow (with cream white swirls). As to the Ugly Casanova pressing: it is stunning. One of the best sounding records I own and every aspect of the packaging was handled with the upmost care.
  13. Now that all the bickering seems to have mellowed out, I have some good news... My copy came in today and is sounds GREAT.
  14. Came in this morning along with my copy of There's Nothing Wrong With Love. Not only is the packaging top notch and the varient oddly gorgeous, it sounds AMAZING. (TNWWL has never sounded better either). I almost feel like I owe Sub-Pop a thank you note. They reissued two iconic classics in bad need of a new pressing, did it right AND kept the prices reasonable.
  15. Your are probably right. One could hold out hope for a deluxe edition with both Go & Realiti though.
  16. Also quite annoyed by the absense of Realiti. Maybe if we complain loudly enough that can change since the pressing hasn't happened yet?
  17. Got my copy. Sounds quite good. Wouldn't call it one of the best sounding albums I own, but it's solid and (thank god) a huge upgrade on GKMC. My main complaint is Hood Politics, something in the bass line just sounds off.
  18. This is a very difficult question with this band. They evolved so much over the years. Daydream Nation is probably their landmark album, but it can be an alienating listen if you don't know what you are getting into. Goo/Dirty are their albums from the grunge era (they were a huge influence on many, many bands including Nirvana). A lot of people would tell you to start there. But my favorite albums are from this era that is being reissued. A Thousand Leaves, Murray Street and Washing Machine. Sonic Nurse kicks some serious ass too.
  19. Fucking stupid that they insist on packaging it with the 2 instrumentals so that they can charge 40+. No thanks Sean.
  20. Do they take your $$$ at order, or do they wait until closer to shipment?
