"Respect The Classics" Reissues
downisthenewup87 replied to Endserenading's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Black Star sounds alright... but I mean it's a picture disc. The Slim Shady LP sounds great.... -

Bad/Disappointing Pressings
downisthenewup87 replied to Seafinch's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Just a heads up for people with questions about Radiohead pressings... there is a thread I started awhile back that wound up going several pages deep in which various pressings and reissues from over the years are discussed. Well worth reading through if you are thinking of making purchases. As for my additions to the list: The Fugees: The Score. Quiet and noisy. Very noisy. And expensive which makes it worse. Kendrick Lamar: GKMC. Same thing as above except slightly less noisy but even quieter. Kyuss: Sky Valley: Quiet and Flat A Sunny Day In Glasgow: Sea When Absent... Sort of like Capitol's Amnesiac pressing where it's hard to pinpoint why it doesn't sound good... it just sounds off. Warpaint: The Fool. This one isn't terrible, but it's still disappointing that such a lush and nuanced album sounds so... flat. -

Foals - PO Now - What Went Down (8.28.15)
downisthenewup87 replied to scott_c's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I guess I'm the only one for whom Holy Fire is the favorite. Excited for this though their stuff stays available on vinyl forever so I don't see myself pre-ordering. -
PO - Red House Painters @ 4AD

Oh I'm aware, but a poster above mentioned having contacted the label that does have the rights and apparently they have no interest in a reissue (for now). -
Insound Closing Its Doors After 16 Years
downisthenewup87 replied to jhulud's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
You ever pull the trigger on that order? Or has anybody else ordered from them recently? I'm in the same boat... they have something I want. Also, do they have a rep for listings in stock even after they are sold out? -

Songs for a Blue Guitar is easily my favorite Red House Painters album and possibly my favorite of Mark's releases (April/Ghosts being the others). Super bummed that they have no interest in reissuing it. -

Played mine today. Sounds great. Will be interesting to see how long the deluxe stays available. -

Just to lend to the discussion: I'm probably biased because I live in a large city (Los Angeles), but in my 28 years on this planet, I've never seen electronica have a firmer hold on the mainstream. Case in point is Coachella a music festival that has become more and more electronica driven over the years. And that's not even bringing up what acts are actually drawing the crowds. I mean fuck, Kaskade (GAG) broke Rage Against the Machine's record (from 07') for most people out on the main stage this year. And a lot of bands that are worshiped on this site and/or who would have drawn large crowds in the past (for example, Built to Spill) drew miniscule crowds because everybody was over at the tents. I happen to be somebody that loves rock, hip-hop and electronica so I see both the pros and cons in this... and for the record, Jamie XX was packed and he absolutely killed it which is why I buckled and pre-ordered this album despite the high price point (it takes a special case for me to even break $30 normally). Also, count me as down for the electronica thread. -

I hope this ships soon. Holding out on a listen til' I have the deluxe version in hand, but it's gonna be difficult to maintain willpower once June 1st passes. -
Yours might sound great, but I went through two very, very noisy copies before landing a red. The red is substantially quieter until the very tail end of side B at which point it clicks its way through the final 30 seconds of other people's lives. Definitely the most trouble I've ever had with an album other than the Fugees' The Score. In both cases, I gave up on have a "clean" record and decided to just be content owning an all-time favorite on wax though I'm still a bit bitter about the Score since it's not a cheap album.

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
downisthenewup87 replied to Rapidfiretollbooth's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I'd see where your coming from... if we were talking about club rap or whatever... but when it comes to people like Kendrick and Chance, the crossover appeal definitely dwarfs anybody on the Rhymesayers label. Pitchfork reviews alone (they hardly ever give a positive review to a Rhymesayers release) ensure that. I think the more likely answer does lie somewhere along the lines of... the (mostly older) artists on Rhymesayers value vinyl as a platform because they grew up during the height of turntablism whereas the kids from TDE, Odd Future, ext who grew up during the mixtape era don't. That doesn't mean there isn't a high demand for their work on vinyl or that it wouldn't sell (very) well though. -

downisthenewup87 replied to Rapidfiretollbooth's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment, but if Rhymesayers and other underground labels are capable of putting out every release in a quality manner and selling through those, it would indicate that there is an audience/demand for larger artists like Kendrick on wax. -
The Vinyl Deals Thread (non-Amazon)
downisthenewup87 replied to itsgoodtobefree's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
If they are in-store and you can show them the prices online, they will match. (Not so) funny story... I went in to get a price match on the Foals' album and got a $93 dollar parking ticket (for be 3 minutes past sign postage)... so the album wound up costing me $103. -

Both this and Section 80 deserve official releases. And yes, high quality too.... GKMC ranks up there with the Fugees' The Score for noisiest album I own that was purchased new (what is it with hip-hop albums and lackluster releases?). -

So I just talked to Amoeba trying to get an update on this thing. They said that TDE had originally said May, but the RSD clogged everything up (of course) and now it's been pushed back and nobody has any idea when it will actually get pressed (if at all). -

Why does it say Bush on the link to the green? Nvm. Think it's just a glitch. This album is sweet btw. -

I can't recommend those Steve Gunn or Ought albums enough: two of last year's best albums hands down. I paid 21 & 22 for each respectively back in December. They are excellent pressings too. Just picked up Wild Beasts, EMA and Foals for myself. This site results in so many spontaneous purchases.
