New Constants album for PO Wednesday!
First album since 2012, honestly super pumped; Foundation/Machine/Ascension is one of my all time favorites.

"our new record “devotion" will be available for pre-order this Wednesday 4.22.20 on our bandcamp page.
    .
we wrote and recorded one brand new song for the album to round out a collection of bsides, covers and remixes we've collected over the past decade or so. we're really excited to share something new with you, and to officially welcome our brother Joel M Reynolds who has joined us on guitar."

I'm listening to Barrens right now and enjoying it so far. I'll need to see how this sinks in over the next few weeks.

If you don’t have their live album, I’d recommend it.

Listened to Barrens earlier & it was solid, not great imo.  All 3 of these releases are far better to my ears.

I don’t know how they’re thought of around here (if at all), but I’d kill for a new Soup album right about now.

Nice. Need to listen to that.

So far only Caspian, Whale Fall and Glaciers have done it for me Post Rock wise this year.

Black Clouds was so freaking good. Just listened to both of their albums back-to-back and I'm left wondering why it's so hard for bands these days to pick up the slack.

(With all due respect to the good post-rock bands still out there -- there are plenty.)

Don’t get me wrong that Holy Fawn EP is fantastic in itself.  I was just saying that’s how much I like Spotlights to say it’s better than that.

I’m really into this new Whale Fall album.  A needed break from crescendo/Dunk-core.  Almost has a Do Make Say Think meets Spurv vibe.

I should probably do a better job of listening to people.  Because I totally slept on Barrows.  But holy shit.  This band is ruthless.

Dude.  I’m with wisdom on this one.  Think you’re more mad than you should be lol.  In fact everything they said sounds like everything most of us say here!  It’s pretty clear who they are talking about (& for the record, it’s all The Life & Times dude & Mario is pretty much just saying “yeah yeah”.

First off, the guy from Life & Times is CLEARLY an “older” guy.  It should be zero surprise at all what he says.  And their music was definitely an odd choice for Post Fest imo.  Also, he’s clearly singling out only SOME of the bands.  He compliments Mario for “having vocals” so I think you can remove Circus Trees & Holy Fawn from the venting.  I’m sure he was speaking about Ranges, Wander, PFS, I/O, End of the Ocean & Driving Slow Motion.  Those are the instrumental bands that can all be lumped into the more “basic post-rock”.  While I think End of the Ocean is top tier live, I’ll never consider them “ground-breaking”.  And I personally loved Driving Slow Motion but definitely don’t take offense if someone says they are “cliche”.

And the 78:00 venting is just about “bands being too serious”.  Nothing malicious there at all.

I know you’re the resident Ranges & PFS fanboi 😉 but I really think it wasn’t a mud slinging vent sesh here.  Just an older dude sounding like EXACTLY how I’d expect & commenting on how cookie cutter those bands sound.  And his buddy Mario casually agreeing with his points.

I’d hug ya & say “Everything will be ok” if I could haha ❤️

Holy shit this is awesome.  Thanks for posting.  It’s on Spotify.  Basically 2 songs & an interlude.  But I’ve been dying for that studio Blood Pact since seeing at Post Fest.  Song of the damn year already.

This new PSOTY fucking SLAYS.  It’s like Fragments but cranked to 11.  I’m into the vocals a lot, but they don’t dominate the album.  There are a couple instrumemtals & long periods in the songs with no vocals, so if you don’t dig them, maybe they’re sparse enough to not hurt the album for you.

As a whole I will say the songs are a bit one dimensional & at least the first time through can be hard to separate from each other, but it’s just so LOUD & dense I don’t really mind.  The first real tempo change doesn’t hit until a couple minutes into the 3rd track, but it hits right before things get stale
    imo.

My other minor gripe is that there isn’t a lot of depth to the drum beats, but this album is definitely about the nuclear guitars & bass.  Which btw, definitely some moments of Tool-esque bass in here.  A nice element especially after getting back into Tool casually lately.

Listen to this one cranked as loud as you can.   I wasn’t gonna splurge on vinyl but I may have to change that.

”Queen of Hades” is my early favorite.  That’s when that Tool bass really kicks in & then it’s filled in with like shoegaze-post-metal.

New song from The Shaking Sensation! Supper excited to see them still making music. They kind of disappeared for a while after their last album in 2013, 'Start Start Worrying', but it seems they have a new album coming out this coming October on Pelagic Records.

If you are not familiar with their work, it's very much inspired by the heavy hitters of the early sound, but they definitely added a lot of emotion and atmosphere to their 2013 album, more than I've heard in any other post-rock albums. Definitely check out their previous stuff. 'Heavy Entity' and 'Anchors' are pure bliss...

Yeah it’s a nice mix of ambient & light/dark post-rock.  Great album to zone out to.  Just took a quick snooze with it on my lunch break lol.

I heard this at the same time as Holy Fawn back in the fall last year, and thought @deafening had recommended it, but it was @scott_c on this thread page 77. I actually PO'ed a CS if you can believe that, ordered early September and arrived late November. I didn't hype them, being more obsessed with HF at the time, and smaller darkgaze bands I like don't seem to get a lot of traction with my friends.
Until you mentioned Nothing and  TW, I had sectioned them in  with Keep, Threading, KW/Miserable and few noise bands -- so I had to give it another run through after paperwork.
I would definitely agree with vocals being consistent with Nicky from earlier Nothing -- i.e. male, soft, throaty and buried. Doesn't change through this album.
They are downtempo - but I don't have to adjust my whole brain to listen to Grivo vs. TW s l o w g a z e - whom I enjoy immensely.  Track 2 has a riff that sounds like TW, and a slightly longer section of track 4 that also definitely hearkens TW chord progressions. That's all I heard of TW. (for TW, check out 1990's band Should: Feed Like Fishes album. Should be on vinyl)
The guitars, except for the intro  on Track 1, drumming, and overall song writing / composition seems significantly different that if Nothing and TW aren't your cuppa, but you like darkgaze, I'd give these guys a listen.
There are longer tracks and agreed not a lot of variety as mentioned above, but it still grabs me enough to distract from being background music.
Most likely will get this on vinyl, pleasantly surprised it actually got the vinyl treatment.

This album has consumed my life recently.  Dark, gloomy, heavy, monotone, beastly riffs.

I've actually had this sitting idle in my itunes library for who knows how long, but had to come back to it because of your rec. Not much to complain about here, this is very solid stuff. First two tracks give me strong YATC vibes.

I don't doubt it! A few weeks back I actually returned to Sheer's Uneasy - I remember you were all over that record when it first dropped. There's still something there that I really like (even if some of those tracks are auto-skips). It's mostly a toss-up with that kind of shoegaze for me, but I'm always open for recommendations.

Also, as an aside, that new Pillars track is sooo good. I feel like a hypocrite because I feel like I'm always campaigning for more experimentation in post-rock, and that track is about as by-the-book as it gets, but I can't help it. I need a post-rock release to get excited about and I think that might be it.
