  1. finally put my tie-breakers in haha. Been super fucking busy the last couple weeks with work, coaching, and family shit for the holidays. No time for the interboards. haha Been listening to Shy, Low "Hiraeth" a lot. Also got my copy of "It's Not Me, It's You!" in the mail, and it's scratched and noisy as fuck. It was insured though via the German post.... do you guys think I can file a claim? I'm trying to be civil about this, and I'm going to take it to get cleaned, but I spent a lot of money on this fucker and want to listen to it cleanly. Dude said it was NM who I bought it from...
  2. Also, I got a copy of "Storm Static Sleep" for Christmas. Anybody else pick up/receive a copy of that book? It's pretty interesting/good so far, but the dude really gets into the post-rock mindset with the way he phrases things. I think the dude is younger than most of us who wrote it, because he talks about "Backlit" being the first Isis song he ever heard. And he writes... kind of like I do. Big long sentences, cloaking the imagery in effervescent panoramas of analogies, conjuring up the mental gymnastics one would attribute to an endless signal-chain of delay pedals and reverb, echoing off the canyon walls as the repeats glisten sharply against the noir backdrop of the loneliness of the silence spaces of post-rock. ...or something like that. Haha. Good read though, very informative.
  3. Where can I find those Language Revisited tracks?!?! And yeah kind of off this topic directly, but I spun Language in my car yesterday for the first time in probably a couple months, and holy good lord, this material is just so fucking brilliant. This band is going to be so fucking legendary.
  4. Fuck yeah dude, that's exactly what I was looking to hear. We can continue this in PM's because I don't want to clog the board with gear talk. Checking more of your stuff out now. New Topic Anybody have any more lines on these Solace represses?!
  5. Also, no vinyl yet. Got my CD last week. Anybody else in this same situation?
  6. WITTR is fucking great. Two Hunters is the one I always listen to. I like Deafheaven's take on the style a little more, because they get a little more beautiful and clean with those post-rock leads and clean grooves. WITTR is more straight up black metal. Still fucking awesome though. Everyone should listen to them.
  7. Dude, you made this??? This is fucking sweet!!! I want to know everything! The washy, ambient sounds at the beginning... are those volume swells from guitar with lots of delay?
  8. So..... not to derail this thing, BUT.... Jakob just posted to facebook that they'll be touring 2016 with repressed back catalog releases... but gave no indication of which ones. GRRRR!!!!
  9. I got my CD, but haven't fucking gotten the vinyl yet. This is annoying. I'm glad I like this album, though. It's still no Sunbather, and you can tell with the songwriting that they were rushed to get the stuff finished, but its still got great shit. The end of "Come Back" is probably my favorite part so far, and "Gifts For The Earth" is just tremendous. Still not into that chugging bridge/outro section in "Baby Blue" despite the rest of that song being fucking BRILLIANT.
  10. Nice, glad to see someone else feels as strongly about I/O and that album as I do! On another note, I got an email from Fluttery Records about this new artist, Edo Ghost. It's this Japanese-British solo dude project, and the EP track "Yurei" that was just released. This thing is pretty fucking great, and spans a wide gamut of post-rock characteristics. You can listen to it for free here, I highly suggest doing so. Very fresh and creative. Its kind of like apocalyptic post-rock, sort of? http://www.flutteryrecords.com/flttry094
  11. Holy fuck, just 15 albums? Oi.... gonna try to keep this to one album per band, if possible. 1. I/O - "Saudade" 2. Shy, Low - "Hiraeth" 3. Caspian - "You Are The Conductor" 4. ITTCT - "Red Forest" 5. GIAA - "All Is Violent, All Is Bright" 6. GY!BE - "Raise Your Skinny Fists..." 7. Jakob - Solace 8. PG.Lost - Key 9. Giants - Old Stories 10. Sleepmakeswaves - "...and So We Destroyed Everything" 11. Lights & Motion - Save Your Heart 12. Maybeshewill - "I Was Here For A Moment, Then I Was Gone" 13. Mogwai - My Father, My King 14. Red Sparowes - At The Soundless Dawn 15. Tides From Nebulah - Earthshine Damn, that was hard. Also, noticing that Mono is getting the shaft here EDIT: Have to include some honorable mentions, because there's so many more good albums/bands. Year Of No Light - Ausserwelt (more doom than post-rock) Mono - Under The Pipal Tree Mono - One More Step and You Die Pray For Sound - Monophonic Pray For Sound - Dreamer April Rain - Waiting for Sunrise Beware of Safety - It Is Curtains Daturah - Reverie Sunlight Ascending - All The Memories, All At Once
  12. It's just too much fun watching Matt flip over his coffee table, figuratively-speaking. I'm just psyched that in 2 months, right before I turn 30, I will get to see Caspian and Maybeshewill within a week of each other!!!
  13. Every time they go for the chugging, it just sounds weak though. I don't know what the solution would be. But holy lord the outro to Come Back is so good. Lots of amazing fucking fucking parts to this album. Can't wait for the vinyl spin. Gifts From The Earth's outro is huge and needs to be extended like 4 minutes live. I can't get enough. Luna is what I think I was talking about in my post just above, though. You wanna get to that awesome outro, and that chugging bridge riff is just kinda unnecessary to the song IMO.
  14. Well, got my CD yesterday. Gotta say, listening to this in the car with appropriate focus makes a WORLD of difference. This album is actually pretty awesome! It's still not quite as good as Sunbather, but it is very much a worthy release, and very much signature Deafheaven without rehashing the past completely. My main gripe is the weak guitar tones. On the palm-muted chugging riffs, especially like that (in my opinion, unnecessary) bridge right before the ending outro theme, the palm-mutes just sound weak. There isn't enough overdrive, and just a little too much mid-range in the sound to make it really powerful. Baby Blue is definitely my favorite track so far, though. That opening first few minutes just absolutely kills.
  15. All I need to do is mention how much better Caspian would be as a jamband, and that would surely derail everything
  16. This is your one shot, man. I'll probably have an extra ticket with the signed poster, got 2 of those picked up today. CANNOT FUCKING WAIT.
  17. I've actually been playing the new Exxasens on youtube all day and it fucking rules. Everything this band does is awesome. So the previous albums were all just one dude? Listening to "Beyond The Universe" and the break into this major key section in "Sky In Red" is fucking sweeeeeeeeet!!!!
  18. So any of you guys like Exxasens? Just finally checked their stuff out after seeing their name on Youtube all the time. Got hooked by the track "Milk Stars" which is on a post-rock comp playlist someone uploaded that I play back regularly. Listening to their "Polaris" album right now, and this is very much hitting the spot. I love how they use the double bass pedal in the drums to give things a quasi-metal vibe. They're of the more energized half-metal post-rock, the way I conceptualize Sleepmakeswaves, Caspian, ITTCT, etc. Can never get enough of this sound when done right!
  19. Hence the question mark. I'd love to hear some of the other big horror stories you guys have had to endure.
  20. I got the yellow. Worst PO in vinyl history?
  21. finally got my shipping confirmation notice from King's Road...... I can't believe I fucking ordered this in god-damn JULY. Nearly half a year before it shows up.
  22. So I listened to some more Doomina, and kind of pinpointed why it doesn't click with me. First, I don't like the guitar and drum sounds. Perhaps if they had better gear or it was recorded better, I would be hooked more, but the guitar sounds like a not-great solid-state amp distortion and I just don't like the sound :\ 2nd, the songwriting. They have some good riffs and ideas, but they don't build or go anywhere for me. Its just like "Okay, here's our riffs!!!" Lots of decent content, but no context. If they were better arrangers, it might make a world of difference. "Gizmo" is the one track that ever did anything for me, the last 2-3 minutes were really good. That's awesome that you guys are into it, but.... they're just not my bag. That said, THIS album has been consistently blowing me away with their songwriting lately: Very dream, energetic, well-written post-rock. These songs fucking kill it. Also, listening to "Waking Season" on vinyl rules. That is all.
  23. Yeah dude that would be sick. I listen to The Four Trees and You Are The Conductor usually a couple times a week on CD, and I'd love to hear the difference. You Are The Conductor clear with olive blob is probably my favorite sounding record. I don't go to it too often because I want to preserve it's quality.
