  1. I'm very hot and cold with them, too. I listened to The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place last night, and actually really, really enjoyed it. I have Those Who Tell The Truth on vinyl, because "A Poor Man's Memory" has a sick fucking climax in it. But I think The Earth... is a much better album, overall.
  2. Right on thanks man, I'll check them out. I fucking love I/O. They're one of my favorite post-rock bands. Its really about the guitar hooks, like that riff that opens "Twins", and the melody hook in "Noise Floor". I also love how prominent the bass player is in the mix, the dude can really play. And he's got a great tone. If this sounds anywhere near as good on vinyl as the mix does on headphones, this is going to be a titanic release. I was truly blown away on my bike ride the other day when I had this plugged in with some good headphones via the bandcamp app.
  3. Funny, because I kind of think of them as way more avant garde than "normal" post-rock bands of today, like Mono, Giants, Pg.Lost, I/O. Post-rock today seems to have gotten more rock-based, whereas EITS are much more pastoral... their compositions are weirder and "artier" if that makes any sense. At least to me, they are.
  4. Interesting, I don't really get a Caspian vibe from them at all. The way I most conceptualize them is as a clean-tone version of Sleepmakeswaves. They have that riff-oriented foundation, whereas Caspian is like a big swelling swarm of emotion and waves of sound. The thing I love about them is the guitar hooks they come up with... like that section in "Twins", and the melody in "Noise Floor." Things that just get stuck in your head, for you to grab onto as a listener. This song isn't on the album but it's fucking awesome:
  5. Bump... these guys deserve a sell-out. This music is incredible stuff. Listened to this album on my bike ride today, for the first time with headphones. What an experience. "Noise Floor" might be my new favorite... that fast groove is just gorgeous.
  6. Spun mine yesterday for the first time, and I thought it sounded awesome. Nice and quiet, like most TMS releases. I thought the fades after the first few songs were kind of abrupt, but that's minutia. Would have loved to have a take on other "You Are The Conductor" material from this venue, though. Man, if they played the opening triumvirate, or Loft... that sound would have been tremendous. Loved hearing the crowd after that Sycamore, though.
  7. Black copy is on it's way here, and I might be close to aquiring one of the aqua splatters! This record is just so massive. Still getting into Departure Songs. Have a better grasp on the album now, I just wish it had vocals and some more prominent piano on it.
  8. Yeah, the timeline sucks, but what can you do. They're an independent band putting out a small vinyl press. I don't care how long it takes. Well... I do, but... the music is awesome enough that it's worth the wait. You check the music out?
  9. I/O - "Saudade" on vinyl!!! FINALLY!!!! http://iomusicofficial.bandcamp.com/ They're doing it on 180g clear!!! This group is amazing, you guys are going to love this shit. You can stream the whole album there for free already. Check them out! Only $20 each.
  10. Pre-order for Boston post-rock outfit I/O's debut album "Saudade" on 180g clear vinyl is now up!!!! If you like post-rock, this stuff is necessary. These guys have written some brilliant material, and are financing this release all on their own. You can stream the whole album for free right now. My favorite tracks are "Twins", "Input/Output" and probably "Noise Floor". http://iomusicofficial.bandcamp.com/
  11. I mean I know of it, but I don't read it or know what they're really known for. Why? Do they write shit like I do? haha
  12. Dude holy shit I don't even know if I can even do my normal hyperbolized rant for this shit. It's just too good for words. They have the perfect tone on that record too... I love how with all the speed picked parts, you don't really hear the pick attack; it's almost like a swarming guitar cyclone that just kind of spins the strings and coils up the darkness and brooding atmosphere to just kind of gently wash it over you. It's hulking and oppressive, but it moves gradually, giving you a sense of calm and mitigating the fright of impending doom, meanwhile itself secretly knowing that it's going to completely smother and engulf your entire being. Listened to Nord this morning, too. Great album, but Ausserwelt is just a fucking titanic beast of a masterpiece. I think I'm with you on the vocals thing for these guys, too. Wasn't thrilled with the performance on Nord. Music is wayyyy different too. And its funny... I never checked these guys out, always thinking they were a black metal band haha
  13. What is YONL? I completely disagree, though. It's funny how people can have such different preferences for music... because without the vocals and piano, this album is just missing a crucial element. That makes sense, though, that Torpy was their vocalist and why they're an instrumental band now. I didn't know too much about their history or anything. There's an awesome video of their CD release party for TQPOE and they have the girl singer come up onstage for "Forgotten People". It's so fucking awesome. Edit: ahhhh god damn you guys, I'm going to order it anyway. There's a lot of sick parts on the album. But they just take so long to get to, whereas Godspeed's builds are a lot more interesting. But there's still lots of good shit here.
  14. Haven't gotten a chance to listen to mine yet, but it looks gorgeous! Anybody with both releases, can you comment on the sound and any differences you hear? I'm curious to know if there's much of a difference, the way Isis' "Oceanic" remaster sounds completely different than the original (and not in a pleasing way for me).
  15. Throwing it on now, thanks! and glad you guys could snag some copies of The Quietest Place On Earth. I can't fucking wait to play that!
  16. Dude should be happy he didn't order the clear/black swirl If These Trees Could Talk "Red Forest" press that just happened earlier this dude... Talk about a fucked up/not-as-advertised record haha.
  17. waiting til I get paid on Friday to order this. Going to go for the clear. My big issue with this album is the lack of the piano. That little element made SUCH a huge impact on "The Quietest Place On Earth". I wish they kept it. So... I think I'm actually going to pass on this album. I've been trying to get into it, and while the music has a solid foundation, it just isn't grabbing me. I think its the lack of vocals and piano that are keeping me from really being engaged. The music is just too sprawling, and there isn't enough of a backbone with beats and grooves the way TQPOE has. We'll see. But I think I'm going to pass on this.
  18. I've been talking to the band a little, and they seemed surprised that this was up already at Translation Loss. Anybody pick up one of TQPOE from that store? Dude's super awesome, and shipping is INCLUDED at that price (!!!!).
  19. THREE COPIES LEFT: "The Quietest Place On Earth" black vinyl. http://www.grindheadrecords.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/2012 My offer of "Effloresce" or a first-press copy of "Red Forest" by If These Trees Could Talk still stands for a copy of the aqua blue version.
  20. I wonder if we can bug Translation Loss to do a repress of this? I thought for sure that offering "Effloresce" would make somebody offer it up. At least the CDs are still available.
  21. I reiterate, that I will gladly purchase or trade for a copy of "The Quietest Place On Earth" vinyl. That music is absolutely divine to me. Plus the record looks cool as shit too. Will probably buy this Translation Loss release... $50 is too much for Departure Songs for me. I like the record, but not THAT much.
  22. HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT. Somebody please tell me they have a copy of "The Quietest Place On Earth" that they would part with. Please. This is like, my perfect band. This album is absolutely perfect, in every way. I might even trade my copy of Oceansize "Effloresce" for the translucent blue version of this album. God fucking damn.
  23. So I think I'm going to part ways with my original press Wake/Lift if anybody wants it. It's the navy swirl.
