  1. So how would you compare the remastered release of The Four Trees and You Are The Conductor to the original mixes? I'm always interested to hear new versions of albums, but sometimes they disappoint... I'm not a big fan of the remastered versions of "Celestial" and "Oceanic" that Isis put out within the last couple years.
  2. On another note, I FINALLY just checked off a long-standing album I've been waiting for the right price on: ITTCT - Above The Earth, Below The Sky. Just pulled the trigger on a 2nd press Opaque Blue for $47 shipped. Couldn't let that go. Been wanting to have this album for so long, mostly because the artwork is so fucking killer haha (the music is okay too, I guess.... haha) so much money on records lately... ughhhh
  3. You get it with creation! So truthfully, with me, I think what it comes down to is that, for me, the jamming allows you to witness the band you like CREATING, and composing. They're making music, on the fly. Again, it just comes down to a taste thing, man. The jamming is just something I like, because it provides a window into the artist. I would LOVE to see where they could take Sad Heart of Mine and what else they could come up with, when using the already-written parts as a springboard. But yeah, I think the root of it is the witnessing of composition. The artists I love, I want to WATCH them create. Not just watch them re-create the things they've already written (despite how awesome those pieces already are). And as far as breaking the songs up, I think it's fun. It's crazy. It takes the music in weird places, to connect things that aren't originally written to be connected. It's also just a jamband thing Does that make sense?
  4. haha, it's almost too easy now. hahaha. I laffed. out loud. ahhhh I needed that, haha. :::pulls up the curtain::: So while I totally wish Caspian WOULD jam, you know I'm doing this precisely because it elicits such outlandish reactions, right? I can't help myself. Sorry lol
  5. I mean, I think so, but...apparently not, because Caspian still isn't dropping 18-minute Sad Heart Of Mine's, or doing doing extended takes on Quovis -> Some Are White Light -> Further Up -> Loft -> Some Are White Light -> Further In -> Procellous, or Gone In Bloom and Bough -> The Raven -> Gone In Bloom and Bough. Could you imagine? :::drools:::
  6. haha i'll go back through that Doomina link then and see what happens. Yeah that's what my one buddy says all the time, in addition to claiming that all post-rock sounds the same. This coming from a dude who likes death metal, which is probably the genre most often derided as sounding the same. But yeah, the whole no vocals thing is what gets him, because there's nothing to focus on. But to me, with post-rock, the INSTRUMENTS are THE VOICE. The MUSIC is speaking. Honestly, besides a few brilliant spots, that album really doesn't jive with me. Pretty much everything else they've done I fucking love, but that album... on the whole, I just can't get excited about yet. Its weird. That band is SO FUCKING GOOD though.
  7. will play that promptly once I take "Somewhere Along The Highway" off of the turntable.
  8. I think it's largely about personal frames of reference, to a degree. Colaris makes me think of my youth... and the glory nights of sneaking out in middle and high school and causing a ruckus throughout town on bikes with my friends. The heaviness of their sound brings me back to that time, and I love that sort of trigger. It's funny how some things grab some people and make them freak out, and not others. It's a fascinating thing. I can't get any of my friends into post-rock, really. And I'm like "HOW DO YOU NOT FUCKING GUSH OVER THIS STUFF, FOR FUCK'S SAKE?!?"
  9. haha yeah, it just didn't really gel with me. On the other hand, THIS album has me totally hooked right now: They're kind of metal like ITTCT, and in a weird way, the heaviness reminds me of why i loved Korn and Slipknot and bands like that when I was in middle school. They don't sound like that at all, but Colaris uses the soft-> loud verse/chorus kind of dynamic really well, and they tune down. Maybe its just the tuning, and the heavy "chorus" riffs that I really love. But check it out, it's kind of like a grittier, almost hard-rock sort of spin on the post-rock paradigm. Lots of cool delay pedal riffs, and man, those hulking heavy breaks are just so sweet. I love that swell of bass with the saturated overdrive sound.
  10. I'll check them out again, been super busy so I haven't had much time to digest some new music. Probably out for me (seeing as I've spent hundreds of dollars in the past month or so on records and I need to halt it for a bit haha).
  11. PG Lost "It's Not Me, It's You" is on it's way to me! I paid more than I wanted to, but... this material is amazing, and hopefully it holds up to my expectations for vinyl. I can't wait to crank "Siren" and "Maquina" super loud. It will be full of post-rock glory.
  12. I think I can get behind this, too. This album, and Age of the Fifth Sun are just unfuckwithable. The clear copy I have of All is Violent sounds amazing. Got it from someone on here, too! Spinning my copy of "Binary Opposition" by Shy, Low right now. And now I have justification for why I never go for half-half variants: the white side of this clear/white half-and-half has tons of surface noise. When you're up close to the speakers, you can hear it go cshhhhh...... cshhhhhh.....cshhhhhh.... as the needle goes over the white part. As usual, the clear is silent. Anybody have a reason why that might be? It's kind of fascinating from a physics standpoint to me. But man.... listening to "Presence" turned up real loud is a fucking thing of beauty, let me tell you.
  13. I have it on CD, and it is awesome. I also have their debut album, "It Is Curtains" on vinyl, and that rules too. Would love to have Dogs on vinyl.
  14. I ordered from King's Road... does this mean that those are shipping as well?
  15. Shit. Okay. Well... I guess I'll do my best with a non-abrasive cloth and my cleaning solution. Maybe I'll trek down to the local store and have them use their VPI on it too just to see. Lesson learned. Never buying haze again. This is unreal. You can literally feel the grains rolling over the record against the sleeve when you slide it in or out. This has to be damaging, right?
  16. I like it. It's not super super thick, but I wear it all the time and it's super comfy. I might pick up an extra one, because I bought an XL at the show, and kind of regret not getting a Large. But for $21?!? That's a no-brainer man. And yeah, those LP prices are fucking ridiculous.
  17. So, fuck. This stuff is all super fucking cheap now. Bloom and Breathe plus You Are All You Have Left To Fear, both release on vinyl for only $18. Hoodies for $21. I paid fucking $35 at the show. Stock up while you can! http://gates.merchnow.com/
  18. Eh... maybe. I hate having 2 copies of an album, where one is scratched. What do you do with the scratched one? Toss it? I have a Side A/B of Jakob's "Sines" that's scratched too. I don't know what to do with these things haha. Anybody got some suggestions for my Shy, Low LP issue? That thing is sandy as all hell.
  19. So I just got my Snowdon Lily copy of Shy, Low's "Hiraeth" album, and I need some help. This record feels like it was packaged together at the beach, or in a desert. Right when I began pulling it out of the sleeve to look at, I knew something was up. The record is absolutely covered in a fine grit of dust. What's the best way to get rid of this? I have some liquid cleaning solution; but I'm worried this will just the grit into the grooves. Never dealt with anything like this before; you can feel the grains when the record is slid back into it's paper sleeve. So weird.
  20. I like collecting them, too. I like to have official releases in both formats, if possible. I donno, I just like seeing the artwork on the disc too. its another piece of the band to me. Just heard back; Denovali said that only the limited edition variants came with CDs. Argh. I googled it, and it looks maybe like only editions sold within the USA came with the CD (per TMS forums). grrrrrrrrr But I'm currently listening to "Dim" by Cult of Luna very loudly at work, so it's kind of hard to be bummed about anything right now. :D :D
  21. Sweet, thanks man. Yeah, I'm just bummed because this is now TWICE I've bought this album, and it came with no CD! I emailed Denovali, so we'll see what they say.
  22. Did yours come with seamsplits on the inner sleeves? Mine did. Should've asked him to open any shrinkwrap. D'oh. It should be readily apparent when you pull it out... was really bummed, because I love that album.
