Spurv and A Swarm Of The Sun are SICK! Also, I'm glad I soldiered past the first track of that Mutesite album, because the last 4 tracks are amazing, but that first track I reallllllllly didn't like. There needs to be more post-rock bands with piano. It's so glorious. Probably going to pull the trigger on this Spurv vinyl. This shit rules. Its so cookie-cutter and generic in some ways but my god, I can never get enough of this sound. It's just perfect.

I may end up going for this... I watched a live version of them doing Challenger Part 1, the 22 minute piece, and man... that thing really is a piece of art. It's an exercise in extreme patience, but the reward is still there.

It is. Whenever I play the record I think "man I wish they used a different set of hi-hats" haha. I don't get that vibe when I spin the CD though! The vinyl pressing just makes them so much more present and dimensional, they really sit independently in the mix, which is great.... if you use a nice-sounding set

Fuck yeah! I hope it sounds better than the Snowdon Lilly. Maybe it's just the mastering was shitty for the vinyl pressing, but mine sounds pretty flat. The overdriven section of "Nostos" at the beginning is just a giant muddy mess. The rest of the clean sections of that song, especially the bass groove middle section, and the rest of the "chill" songs sound BEAUTIFUL. But the overdriven stuff kinda sounds like ass. :\ Also, the hi-hats sound... shitty. I really wish they used a different set, or EQed them differently. Oh well, the music still rules.

I played the one track I saw on Heavyblog or wherever, and wowwwwww it was SOOOO fucking good! Will definitely be buying the shit out of this. I was so afraid it was going to suck ass and be disappointing like All Shall Fall. Noooope!

yeah jesus fucking christ, how hard was that? These labels have suuuuuper shitty PR. I mean, for fucks sake... that's all we needed to hear. It doesn't really explain WHY there is such a delay. Unless the plant was fucking up, and creating a backlog... my yellow sounds sick. So glad I have it.

How does one not flip shit over "Epochs and Archives"?!?!?! Downloading now.... can't wait to play this! I was going to just do the Mp3 320 download to save space but then I was thinking "ehhhh fuck, the hi-hats and cymbals will sound like ass, I need that hi-res WAV lossless sound" so I went with the FLAC. I hate my life. It's like I'm back to my days of downloading Phish shows on Etree where every show was fucking like 2 gigs because of the lossless filesets haha.

I just like to complain, I guess. Obviously it's good for the band. Duh. But it's bad for people who want to see them play more than 20 minutes. Also, the co-headlining thing was in reference to Sleepmakeswaves, not Gates. Although Gates should definitely be higher on that bill. Ideally, the show would go like this: Gates - 40 minutes. Thrice, 2 65-minute sets. And really, you want a 17-minute "They See Only Shadows". Drag that intro OUTTTTTT.

Wow, that's fucking lame. Opening that show, they should be co-headlining. The Contortionist is sick, though. Just like Gates getting added as the opener to the Thrice tour... all these bands getting the shaft as the first opener. It's frustrating. These are groups I'd like to see do 2-hour sets, at least. haha

what was the demo? I have a ton of old awesome fucking demos. Throneaeon - Carnage Diabolic - City of the Dead Vader - Morbid Reich those are the big 3 I have. Also some Insision demos which are fucking legit.

yeah, hearing that album with the backing tracks together made it a WHOLE new beast. Unreal. I like it better I think with the companion material. I still love the remixes though, they're always interesting. And I'm always a fan of demos, hearing shit the band made in the rehearsal room or wherever, when the songs were being created. I love that insight into a band.

This is really fucking good. I REALLY love that middle section... it kind of sounds like Lateralus-era Tool mixed with post-rock, before they break back into the blast beats for the final minute and a half. I wouldn't even know what to call these guys. Probably blackgaze would be the most appropriate, overall general term. I've been listening to so much Kokomo lately though, trying to get used to this material. Their new song fucking KILLS. But "Epochs and Archives" is still probably their best song IMO. That track.... wow.

yeah I'm totally in with you guys for Toundra stuff next month. This Kokomo nonsense is going to drain me of a quick hundred or so haha.
