  1. I thought straight tone arms were bad, though? I've been looking to upgrade my turntable, and one of the Project Debut's is what I've been considering.
  2. Monotreme Records - these guys are class acts. I bought Sleepmakeswaves - In Today Already Walks Tomorrow from them, and it arrived with a bunch of scratched records and some splotches of abrasion. Which sucked, because that music is awesome. I contacted them, and told them of the issue, and they were incredibly timely with the replies via Facebook. This weekend, I received a full refund for the record. All I really want is the music, I don't care about money. They said they were going to check the rest of their stock and get back to me. Turns out, all of the records were fucked from the plant, so none of the ones they can sell are any good. They're going to eventually press more, and hopefully they turn out fine this time. But I can't say enough good about these guys. Very helpful, very timely, and very kind with the refund. I will absolutely buy more shit from them in the future.
  3. Just got a bunch of stuff in the mail... From Denovali: Daturah - S/T Maybeshewill - I Was Here For A Moment, Then I was Gone Joy Wants Eternity - The Fog Is Rising from The Butcha - ITTCT S/T + ATE/BTS!!! For those of you who have bought the Joy Wants Eternity record, did yours come with a CD? This is the 2nd time I've bought the album and it didn't come with the CD that Discogs/elsewhere says it should be packaged with. Kinda bummed about that, I really wanted to play this in my car too. The Daturah record sounds amazing though, that music is absolutely tremendous. I haven't gotten a chance to dig into the other albums yet. Also on the purchase horizon: PG.Lost - It's Not Me, It's You finally!!! AND Monotreme Records was cool enough to refund me completely for my copy of Sleepmakeswaves - In Today Already Walks Tomorrow. My copy came with a ton of scratches and these big abrasion splotches, and it turns out the rest of their stock suffered the same fate from the pressing plant. So they're going to press that again at some point.
  4. Will check them out, but "Red In Tooth and Claw" is a Rosetta song title from their album Wake/Lift.
  5. Same with me. Roads and Sunbather are just more my bag for what Deafheaven offers. New Bermuda is a great record, but I want more of that blackgaze sound from them. They do it SO well.
  6. what a faggot. Have you sent him a message? Nobody is ever going to buy that album for that price. Even $70 new was fucking ridiculous. I'm waiting for more Live Phish vinyl.... fucking 7/10/99 Chalkdust, or the 12/16/99 Tweezer.... could you imagine???
  7. Hmmm.... if you remember, I was more or less stating that this record does not stand up to Sunbather It's definitely a great record, but for me.... Sunbather > New Bermuda. I mean I like this album, its definitely good... but Sunbather, man. SUNBATHER. But yeah, I get what you're saying. My "I'm over it" was more in the way of "Okay, I'm not even really interested in exploring this album any more because my excitement over it's release has abated."
  8. Haha. In all seriousness once it finally arrives, I'm sure I'll fall in love with it all over again. I've just been trying not to listen because I want to hear it in high quality through my stereo and in my car, fully immersed, and with the artwork in hand. But I do notice that with myself, once I discover a new band/release, I'm alllllllllll about it for a while, until I know it through and through, and then I kind of move on to other things that are new to me that I can obsess over while learning them. It happened with Jakob real bad. Spent a bunch of money quick on Sines, and CD versions of Subsets and Cale:Drew, and I don't really play those records that often any more. Jakob is fucking awesome, but its like "Okay, I know this stuff now." Which will be nice, because by the time these finally arrive, the album will be totally new to me all over again!
  9. Eh, I prefer to lightly glide. Hopping is so awkward when everyone is watching.
  10. I almost don't even care about this album any more. What a thing: they get you to buy something, and you're over it before you even get it in the mail!
  11. Holy shit, this is really fucking cool!!!! I love that backwards guitar thing they do early in same story. They're kind of like a post-rock version of The Contortionist maybe?
  12. Yeah sometimes I would go 4-5 days without hearing from them; when I bought Sines by Jakob the copy I was originally sent had a bunch of scratches on Side A, and they ended up sending a replacement. The label rules. Just be patient.
  13. Here's an album that is currently destroying right now for me: Arbor Lights - Hatherton Lake Pretty standard post-rock/instrumental fare, but they make some really really nice use of horns and xylophone work to get this bombastic, epic, triumphant vibe. The whole record is good, but the songs "Damascus" and "Silhouettes" quick sufficiently blew my socks off. Onto the final track, "The Mayor and the Driver" and this bassline is thoroughly delicious. Damascus starts at 12:44. The first 2 tracks are fine, but oh man... these last 3 are just really firing on all cylinders for me.
  14. lol. I laughed. The PG.Lost bit at the end is what makes it haha
  15. I've been doing the same thing, haha. Listening to that Moving Mountains album now, thanks Derek. This is fantastic stuff! Keep the epic stories coming, guys!
  16. Go further. How did you encounter those albums? What were the circumstances? Were they suggested by a friend? Did you happen upon them on some website? Edit: Also, most of you guys suck at providing details. You're terrible story-tellers!
  17. I think its cleaner to have a separate thread just for this. I want to hear your guys' stories! There's got to be some cool shit you guys have stashed away.
  18. So... the subject basically states itself. I'm curious to hear everyone's stories pertaining to this fabulous style of music. For me, somehow Caspian came up on my Facebook feed; I'm friends with some people who formed a jamband in Boston, so it's possible that Caspian was mentioned in a thread on a jamband site in reference to other Boston bands. I don't really remember, but I "liked" Caspian's page around the time that Waking Season was being released. I listened to some music, and I didn't really get it at first iirc. So it kind of fell by the wayside. Fast forward to 2014, and somehow If These Trees Could Talk's "Red Forest" album was suggested to me on Youtube. I checked it out a few times, and it honestly took me a little bit to grasp what was going on. It was described as an ambient album, so I always just threw it on when I went to sleep. Therefore, I didn't get too much exposure haha, it was a while until I finally listened to it all the way through while focused and awake, and had my first "HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!" moment with the songs "The First Fire" and "They Speak With Knives". But, you could probably say that my initial roots for this style can be traced back to purchasing "Oceanic" by Isis when that album came out. I had downloaded a bunch of Isis tracks off of Napster when I was in high school, and loved how swampy and heavy they were. The oppression and aggression and heaviness was just a whole different level with them, and then they would have these hypnotic, building repetitive groove sections with songs like "CFT (Continued Circuity and New Evolution)". I bought Oceanic without ever hearing a lick of it, and I still remember the first time I listened to "Weight" on headphones with my discman, and being blown away by the peak of that tune, with the female vocals at the end. Your turn!
  19. Come on man, it's only $20 and its 180g clear! I wish they did a splatter, but i'm not going to complain. This music is going to fucking DESTROY on vinyl.
  20. Sweet, thanks man. I was checking their website, and it looks like that track is from their newest album, which isn't up on Discogs yet. Its the first thing on this page: http://te-band.com/sound but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available anywhere, even from their record label site. Kinda frustrating, haha. haha I know you guys all think its the stupid and lamest thing ever but I love the phrases they come up with for the songs. Its over the top, absolutely. And I love it.
  21. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so for some reason Youtube is blocking all of the Zankyo Records videos in the USA. Does anybody know how to get around this, or can you rip the videos off Youtube and upload them yourself? This is so fucking lame. Thankfully some dude figured out the English titles on Youtube and sent me a notification, but it's now deleted after I visited his notification because the content is not available here, so I can't go back and look. He found me the Bandcamp link to the album (apparently the 2 tracks in the original post were coincidentally from the same release). Ugh, this is so annoying; those videos were awesome. There was one more that I loved that I can't find now, because the videos aren't even searchable for me any more. The song started off with a slower, chill bassline before getting all crazy... it's one of the Zankyo official videos on their youtube channel. GRRRRRRRR EDIT: I'm pretty sure it's this track that I'm talking about above. If you guys can figure out the English title from the comments or which album it's on, I would be so grateful.
  22. Ah, that makes sense. Although I kind of would expect them to just stuff the shirt in with everything else? Pretty sure TMS did that when I got the Jakob shirt with Sines...
  23. Picking up these vinyl now from Shy, Low. Weird that you can only get the CD if you buy a T-shirt bundle. That's kind of odd. No LP+CD bundles. EDIT: So, for 2 LPs, and the shirt + CD option, media mail shipping comes to $14. That seems... a little excessive?
  24. I think my point was misunderstood... I wasn't trying to imply that they're unprofessional and don't care about their gear. Rather, I meant that there has to be another explanation, and that I feel like these guys are the kind of band that makes sure their shit is in working order. Like perhaps stepping too hard on their pedals and unplugging a cable accidentally haha
  25. HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT!!!! Wowwwwwww... that was fucking incredible. Oh man, thank you for posting that. That was fucking beautiful. And heavy, and powerful. Everything I want in music. The bass player in that band is absolutely tremendous; I love the sense of groove he has during that clean, blissful middle segment. The way he plays the "spaces" in between the notes, coupling with the drum on that one bassline... ugh, that is like fucking crack to me. Throwing money at this pronto. What else is good from them?
