  1. Listening to the stuff on a computer or mp3 player with earbuds is less-than-satisfying when you know that you're missing out on a more richly-detailed experience. Things pop out in the mix more on vinyl, and the music is so much more spatial and full. I've talked to the band about it; the band wants it done, but the label won't do it. I don't get why labels are like that. Just fucking repress it, sell more copies. Unless it really is about some ego-driven thing to make a more collectible item and see who sells out the fastest, rather than it being about "Holy shit, listen to this AMAZING music!" In which case, why not just release only 1 copy and be done? That way it exists, and you can say you pressed it, but nobody else can ever have it? The point of my hypothetical was to allow for people who want to hear this things on vinyl the ability to do so. Maybe the label presses 300 to sell, and 300 to be put into a circulation thing where you can only rent them, and then have to return them. Its a fantasy lol, stop analyzing it so much!
  2. lol dude, relax. Quite obviously there is no way to actually do this... You're missing the whole point, again, of me venting with this hypothetical thing: there are records that I would buy, but they aren't for sale anywhere! The idea is an absurdist solution to the problem of certain albums being not widely available to those who want to own them. Fair point on the r-word... fine. No need to try to insult me and insinuate I'm some half-baked rookie at this who is giddy because he bought his first Record Store Day special. I buy vinyl because the music sounds fucking amazing on it. I just got Caspian's "You Are The Conductor" in the mail the other day, and I was FLOORED by how fucking sick the production and mastering is on it. Probably my new favorite-sounding record, next to Wavering Radiant by Isis. Also my If These Trees Could Talk represses just came in today too. Do you have a copy of Wake/Lift and A Determinism of Morality? Because then that would solve this problem!
  3. This album came up in my Youtube stream after Ghost Key's "Winter" finished, and it was equally satisfying. Seasons In Wreckage - Perspectives Holy fuck, yes.
  4. Buying the CD and the record. This is fucking unreal music. I wish they put their debut EP on record too, Winter is incredible also.
  5. I WOULD IF I COULD! THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT, GUY! Ass-tons of records I want to own, so that I can listen to them, but the there are no copies for sale. And if there are, like Oceansize - Effloresce, they are going for $300, which is a fuck-you price. The idea of rare music is so retarded. Music is to be heard. You wanna do the collector thing, sure... make the super cool swirls and colors limited. Totally fine. But why not keep a regular black copy in print so that the new people who want to hear this stuff are able to do so? It's just a frustrating concept.
  6. Just got mine in the mail. They are all black save for a little tiny portion that has a dark coffee-colored swirl. Kind of bummed. Also, at least 1 of the corners were smashed in on all the records in this package. (3 in total)
  7. Yes! It would be so perfect! Owning them isn't as much of the concern for me, I just want to be able to hear it. How's the air up there dude? I know this is "your place" for people who've been here for a long time; I have a similar thing with this Phish message board I'm a part of. So I get it. But not every new user is some bandwagon snoob who is doing it because it's trendy to buy records at Record Store Day. Some of us freak out over how good vinyl sounds, and that's why we are hopelessly addicted
  8. all my friends freak out over this group.... never really delved into their music. Just pulled Acts 1-3 up on Youtube. Holy shit, those vocals. Wow
  9. ahhhh yeahhh, sarcastic is the better word. I always associate satire with sarcasm, though so that's probably why that word came to me first. Kind of a mocking sort of joke thing, with undertones of legitimacy (i really just wish I could listen to this stuff on record haha, is that so much to ask?!?) haha Close Haha, I have a Stanton T.62 with a BBE Phono preamp that goes into an older Pioneer receiver. My speakers right now are just some generic Panasonic ones from a surround-sound system I had in high school; they have good bass response though so they're sufficing for now.
  10. How much would it cost to have the Phish - NYE '95 release shipped to Delmar, NY?
  11. lol you guys. The point of the satirical post is that I'm frustrated because I want to listen to these records on vinyl because we all know how much better vinyl sounds. The records, don't. Unless they're grabbed before I'm able to see the notification. But I'm on that site just about every day haha. For falling-asleep listening this suffices, but records give you such a more rich, visceral experience. It blew me away how much better Wavering Radiant by Isis sounded when I finally was able to listen to it on vinyl; the sound fucking explodes out of the speakers. Its like looking at a wall straight sober vs. looking at a wall on mushrooms. lol @ bookogs
  12. So... this is me just kind of venting a little bit. Haha, but I think it would be an awesome idea if somehow we could create a thing where people can rent records, to enable people to listen to music that isn't available to buy. There are a shit-ton of albums I want to listen to on vinyl, but can't. Because bands only release 350 copies, and then people fucking buy multiple copies of those releases, and hoard them. And then when they do decide to part ways with them, they gouge the fuck out of people and profit more than the band did. I get the collector thing, but for someone who actually wants to partake in the vinyl experience, it's fucking frustrating. This thread is mainly inspired by the fact that you cannot find copies of two of Rosetta's albums, "A Determinism of Morality" and "Wake/Lift" anywhere. At all. Even for batshit crazy prices!!! And someone here posted a picture of their Rosetta collection, where they had every edition of all their records... and I was like "I fucking hate you, guy." lol Because I'm sure that dude isn't even fucking listening to the albums!!! Arrrgh!!!! I know this isn't feasible but I often imagine pitching that to someone like that dude... saying "Hey, can I rent one of those copies of Wake/Lift for a month?" Anybody else ever feel this frustrated?
  13. Wow, thanks for the replies everyone! This is sick! So further adding on to this theme.... has there been any song or album you discovered you liked MORE once you heard it on vinyl? For me, this applies to If These Trees Could Talk. "The First Fire" was always my favorite song, but when I finally got my copy of Red Forest on vinyl, and I got to "They Speak With Knives", the vinyl sound spectrum offered with this song's dreamy bed of delay-soaked guitars opened up a wholllle new world for me. Same thing happened with "Hand of the Host" by Isis off of "Wavering Radiant". Hall of the Dead had been my favorite song from that record, but when I heard the bass breakdown at the end of "Hand of the Host", it was a fucking game changer.
  14. No shit.... that makes perfect sense, but I would have never thought about that. Because I just got my vinyl copy of Russian Circles "Memorial" the other day, which is from Sargent House, and I was kind of bummed that I wasn't blown away by the material. The digital copy actually I think I like better... which is super weird. I got that album because the first 2 real songs, "Deficit" and "1777" are some of my new favorite songs, and I was like "oh man I bet these will sound SOOO much better on vinyl!" But the mastering is kind of weird. Very stiff sounding. Very weird reverb. The drums sound live and okay, but... I don't know. Maybe I'll have to revisit and see how I feel again, but I was underwhelmed. I got the clear vinyl version too, but I don't think that really makes much of a difference.
  15. i always wonder what makes for a good pressing. Some records I have sound amazing on vinyl, and some are just kind of whatever. Sometimes the dynamics are truly spectacular, like the Isis records, or sometimes the mastering allows new instruments to come out and be heard for the first time. This happened to me with Opeth - Deliverance, and actually the original pressing of The Wall. On "Young Lust" I heard some organ parts in the background and some delay effects on the guitar that I never knew were there. Its amazing what vinyl can reveal when done properly. What do you like, specifically, about that Petty record man?
  16. I had recently discovered the album "Red Forest" by If These Trees Could Talk, and was searching for any vinyl copies that were available. I found the lone copy for sale online here, from a guy who was leaving to go on a mission for like 3 years, and if he didn't sell his stuff in like 2 weeks it was going to be locked up in storage for years. So I ended up contacting him, and bought "Red Forest" for $75. Such a sick album.
  17. Hey everyone, new to the club here. I know we all have different reasons probably for collecting/listening to vinyl, but for me, the single-biggest reason is the SOUND of the music on this medium. Most specifically, the drums... when I listen to records, on a properly-mastered release, it sounds like I'm right in front of the drummer in the studio. And if mixed right, the other instruments just pop out of the speakers as if you are right there in the room with them as they played. Anyway, this being said, what is your favoring SOUNDING record? For me, the answer is without question "Wavering Radiant" by Isis. First off, the record is mastered loudly, so the sound just jumps out of the speakers. But its just something about the way this record was mastered that makes the material so vibrant and tactile. The dynamics of the songs are so much more impactful. It really hit me how much better the vinyl version is when I was listening to "Hand of The Host" when it got to the doomy post-rock breakdown part towards the end of the song. The BASS GUITAR just fucking oozed out of my speakers. It's an experience I'll never forget. Anyway, I want to hear what you guys have to say as far as your favorite-sounding record, and why you love it!
  18. Hey guys, new here. Been listening to this Rosetta album constantly, and I'm going crazy thinking about how good it must sound on vinyl. Any edition is fine, I just want to hear the vinyl mastering on this album. Thanks everybody!
