  1. anything and everything HP Lovecraft. About to finish "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" for the first time in a long time.
  2. Funny thing.... as I was writing my last post I was listening to the album again, and this time I loved it. So weird haha.
  3. actually the clear/black mix one looks pretty cool if you hold it up in front of some light. Its more like a coffee swirl, really dark. But when you shine some light through it, its wayyyy more translucent than I thought. For some reason though, when spinning them, I think my 2nd press edition sounds better.
  4. So Voice Of the Unheard is sending me another copy of "Chronicle" for free.... which is super awesome. But its weird, because I felt so fucking bad when I got the dude's reply email after I sent him the initial message with pictures and everything. He was super apologetic, with lots of frowny faces. And that all just made me feel bad, bringing negativity to this guy's life. I know its neither of our faults (could he have used a better package? Maybe.) But I don't ever want to bring bummer stuff on anybody, ever, and I know that this instance cost him money and and brought negativity to his life that wasn't there before. He also said another US customer had the same issue as well, which is interesting. The dude who sold me the Rosetta CD that got melted has shown zero effort in wanting to fix things, though. Grrrr
  5. I actually don't like the Anaesthete at all, really. I've tried multiple times, and nothing grabs me. To me, when I listen to that album, the band sounds uninspired and tired.... the music is very simple and basic and it sounds to me like they were out of ideas, and just didn't really have a vision of the music. Compare that with A Determinism of Morality and Wake/Life where the music has so many more parts, and even these new tracks... they sound creative, and inspired, and excited by the music. The Anaesthete just sounds lacking in the creative fire department. It sounds like they're bored. This new shit, though.... wow. Also made me check out City of Ghosts. I've only heard their song "Alarm" but if that track is anything to go by, I have a new group to obsess over haha
  6. So ignore it? It was one thread, man... Relax, everything will be okay, I promise. And if you couldn't see the obvious silly sarcasm in that thread, well then I can't help you there dude haha. I mean come on lol. It just bums me out that people can be so vitriolic towards each other... there's no need to behave or speak that way to others. If it annoys you, why not just ignore it? I'm not on here calling anybody names. ANYWAY, so I contacted the seller, and he seemed less than motivated to help with this than I would have hoped; just telling me to go down to the post office and demand a refund/compensation, because it is neither of our faults. Have you guys ever gotten USPS to issue compensation for something like this? It WAS obviously their fault, because they had to repackage it and they admitted fault with the sticker. If USPS won't compensate, am I in the right to ask for that from the seller? I'm just totally new at dealing with these issues, and knowing who has the obligation to compensate who and what determines when compensation is necessary.
  7. Why do you have to be such a dick, man? Does it make you feel better about yourself? I couldn't ever imagine talking like that to someone, myself, is all.
  8. So.... ever since that thread I started about the library thing, every package I have received has been damaged. The latest? A CD that seems to have been crushed, and then lit on fire (?) by USPS in Seattle. And of course it's a fucking Rosetta CD. One corner section of the back has been melted and charred and crushed; plastic chunks are missing, and the cardboard for the back cover has been split open. I fucking give up. 3 in a row now. What the hell is going on? This was a NM-listed CD.
  9. yeah if the Latitudes record jacket wasn't that super-thick tip-on or whatever it's called (think Isis Oceanic and Panopticon remasters) then that thing would have been destroyed. Thankfully it just has some bent corners. I can live with it. The record sounds great. The Lights and Motion LP is warped... playing it now, the needle looks like its riding a roller coaster.
  10. Word yeah these are both from labels, which is hilarious. Everything I've ever gotten directly from people is shipped amazing. These... are laughable. Never buying from Shels Music or Voice Of The Unheard Again. Just opened the Latitudes record... aside from a massive seamsplit, this record is fine. However, the Lights and Motion record is fucking jacked with a huge warped bend on it. Ugh.
  11. So.... I need some help here. I just received in the mail over the last 2 days my first ever "you have GOT to be fucking kidding me..." packages, and I need some help with how to proceed. The first one has a significant bend on the package as well as mashed corners. I'm assuming its my copy of Lights and Motion - "Chronicle" LP. The 2nd that just came today, the most egregious packaging destruction I have ever seen, is my pre-order copy of Latitudes - The Agonist. Should I even dare to open these? Never had to deal with this before... every record I've ever gotten has been greatly packaged, but both of these came in loosely folded-over floppy cardboard. I've got pictures of everything... what's the right way to proceed here? Do I have cause to request replacements if these got fucked up because of the packaging and shipping? http://imgur.com/di7ESU8 http://imgur.com/BbZvLX0
  12. Yeah man, they were reallllly good. I really dug their sound, a mix of Isis, Cult of Luna, and some more indie sort of thing. Suuuuper heavy. Their album was only $10 too, and has tons of good songs and sounds great. Their stage sound was too much for their drummer's kit to handle though... haha. About 2 minutes into the 1st song, the kick drum pedal just kind of exploded haha. The bass coming from that stage was pretty gnarly. Took a good 5-6 minutes to get it straightened out, one of the springs on the hammer just flew off apparently. Talked to the guitarist dude after for a while... super cool. Definitely want to see them again. So I gotta ask though man, how did you come to own that copy of "A Determinism Of Morality"? I keep searching and searching... and there just are no copies of this and Wake/Lift ANYWHERE, from ANYBODY. That must sound so good haha
  13. i hate you so much. Nice Caspian sticker, though! I just saw them on Friday for the firs time. Aside from the sub-par mixing (wayyyy too much high end distortion) it was fucking amazing. Picked up a vinyl copy of "Tertia" and CD copies of "I Am the Conductor", "Tertia", and "The Four Trees". I also got a free t-shirt for driving from Albany haha. Regretting not picking up Live at Old South Church because now that I've listened to the Tertia material enough, I'm jonesing for that live material. Hopefully the band gets back to me... Can't wait to see them in October again. Bloodpheasant opened, another band from that area. Spinning their record as we speak.
  14. Galilean Satellites was 2005. Still waiting for someone to let loose with any copy of "A Determinism of Morality" and "Wake/Lift"... grrrrrr
  15. THATS THATCHER PARK!!!! hahaha I go there all the time. That overlook is so sick. I didn't know this band was still around; used to see them on hardcore show bills alllllll the time in Albany back in 2002-2004 era. Also, Indian Ladder must be a reference to the Indian Ladder Trail which can be found at Thatcher Park. In the winter, the waterfall there turns into this SICK huge ice cone thing. I have some pictures I'll get uploaded a share. ....that, or it's about Indian Ladder Farms at the foot of Helderberg escarpment (which is what we are looking out from on the album cover) and they just so happen to have THE best fucking cider donuts. Literally the best. Those things are like crack.
  16. Ehhh I see your point, but its more like I've finally found a place where I can talk about this shit with other people. I've been doing this for the last 5 years or so now, which I know is a pittance when compared to older people like you (assuming) who are in their 40's and 50's and have been at this for 20+ years. What's wrong with being excited? This is just how I am, haha. Why would you want to be living a life WITHOUT things that make you freak out? And also, that last part... see, that wasn't so hard to say something nice now, was it? lol Pics or it didn't happen?
  17. man that chorus vocal is sooooo catchy. made out of noooothing.... made out offff nooooothingggggg
  18. I'll never understand why people like to make fun of others so much, or rag on their enjoyment of something. (looking at you zoidberg) Pretty fucking lame, if you ask me. And for that, I will keep this thread going Haha I buy both! Vinyl for home, CD for the car. The earbud thing was a mistake on my part, as I was trying to convey the fact that other mediums don't sound as great and satisfying, rather than imply that that's what I do. I only ever wear headphones when I go bike riding, but its only a fraction of the time that I actually play music. The dangly wires are annoying when you're cutting through trees and brush on paths 'n stuff. But you're right, sometimes a record does sound not-as-good as the CD. Russian Circles - Memorial is a case-in-point for me. Discovered that album, and ordered the vinyl... got it and threw it on and was like "hmmm.... this is not blowing me away like I thought it would." The sound just wasn't right. Very odd. Whereas things like Isis - "Wavering Radiant" and Opeth's "Deliverance" sound wayyy more awesome on vinyl than they do on CD (as good as the CD versions already are).
  19. Just ordered. This new track is fucking weird. These guys are really evolving with their sound. Wasn't a fan of The Anaesthete at all, but this is muuuuuch more interesting, musically. First 3 albums though.... woowwwww. Isis and Red Sparowes need to fucking make new albums now too.
  20. You think they still have some? I checked that etsy link and there was nothing for sale haha. Its kind of aggravating, because I feel like I'm going to just have to flip these records after having just bought them. I don't buy to resell... I buy to listen lol.
  21. I found it on Discogs. I bought it from a dude who was selling Sleepmakeswaves - "...and so we destroyed everything." Kinda bummed though; both records are listed as having a CD, and the dude didn't have them for either release. Also, the Fog Is Rising disc is pretty noisy. Can't win 'em all... definitely learned my lesson to check with sellers for everything. I assumed that since it was listed on the page, the dude had everything it was supposed to come with, because there were no notes saying it was missing the CDs. The album is great, pretty stereotypical post-rock but I love that shit. Listening to some of their stuff now, this is cool. Its like This Will Destroy You but with beats behind it.
  22. Curious to know what people focus on here... at first, for me, death and black metal were the big things. Things like Immolation's "Dawn of Possession" and early releases from Incantation, Monstrosity, Krisiun, etc. I don't even listen to those records any more, really. Lately, as a result of my renewed interest in the band Isis, I've been bit by the post-rock bug HARD. And I can't stop buying, haha. First it was getting every Isis record on vinyl, and then going after new discoveries like Caspian, If These Trees Could Talk, Lights and Motion, sleepmakeswaves, and This Will Destroy You. Currently listening to something that came in the mail yesterday - Joy Wants Eternity "The Fog Is Rising". They're like This Will Destroy You mixed with Explosions in the Sky. They have the ambient chill pacing but more guitar-focused like Explosions In The Sky. I love this shit haha. Curious to know what you guys collect and what you play most often?
