  1. Yeah, I used to listen to cassettes a ton when I was still reallllly into metal and buying lots of underground releases. Some stuff I have, like Throneaeon's "Carnage" demo sounds just AMAZING on tape. Such a juicy, warm, and lush compression. Vinyl is different... it's still warm, but its more dimensional to me. More like you're right there in the room with the music as it was being played (if it was recorded/mastered properly). Some albums I'm finding don't benefit from a vinyl release because the mastering was done so flat, that none of the instruments have any real separation or spatial qualities to them.
  2. if you have that saved on your computer, can you upload it to imgur? I can't find that specific version anywhere... and I love the text font and how the last frame is the Sunbather color.
  3. Yeah I sent them a message and they instilled some confidence in me, so I'll probably be pulling the trigger soon. but dude.... where did you find your signature picture? That is SO unbelievably amazing.
  4. Yeah that Adult Swim song was fucking amazing. It sounded a lot like the Sunbather material. For those wondering, the pink/piss-yellow edition does sound fantastic. I spin the album regularly.
  5. Jesus fucking Christ.... Discogs can be SO annoying sometimes. Vinyl copies of Wake/Lift and A Determinism of Morality were available... fucking test presses and all. Some dude nbraden303. 2nd time A Determinism of Morality has gone up in the last few days and I've missed out. Do some people literally just sit on that site all day? It's crazy how fast these things fly once they're listed in my Want List. There's a $250 copy of Wake/Lift still available. As much as I want that record, no thank you. Listening to Quintessential Ephemera for my 2nd time today.... this album kills!!!!
  6. I'll take the Junius LP, and probably the Junius split too. How firm are you on the Mono record?
  7. Same thing happened to me when I listened to The Wall on vinyl for the first time, as well as Isis - Wavering Radiant and Opeth's Deliverance album. Unreal what vinyl can bring out. So weird.
  8. Is anyone here actually being homophobic? Also... I guess I see your guys' point here. Had a big intellectual discussion/debate about this topic tonight with a group of friends, although it was about the n-word. As silly as I think it is, you have to legitimize and internalize the outrage that some people feel when the word gay is used in a non-homosexual context. But why do they get to be the ones who are outraged? Why can't the people who don't care and don't mean it as anything to do with sexuality be the ones who win? (devil's advocate here... because I honestly just don't care. I know that support/accept gay people and don't use it as a derogatory term towards people who are of that sexual orientation). Blah. Anyway.... Are Deafheaven working on any new material does anyone know? I've though about picking up the demo 12"... can anyone comment on whether its worth owning? I listen to Sunbather and Roads to Judah regularly
  9. Wow, you guys.... relax. Obviously you all knew what I meant. And yes, its 2015... are there really any people against gays left? That's so dumb. Homophobic people are the lamest (gayest is the term we would have used in high school, but I do try not to use that any more because people get so uptight over it and we have to have a dumb sidebar like this whole thing). Not sure why gay used in that context has nothing to do with homosexuality any more though, but that's just how it developed. Nobody makes fun of gay people, and if they do, they're a fucking faggot who needs to get with the times.(watch South Park) Anyway I have to get to work.... Deafheaven rules, gay people are just normal people too, people who hate gays are stupid, vinyl is awesome, blah blah blah.
  10. I think I'll take that Wake/Lift off your hands for $50 though if you're up for it.
  11. I must have such bad luck with Ebay timing because I always check there and I've never seen the vinyl up. Grrrr!!!!
  12. How/where?!?! I'll buy your copy. Also, don't feel bad. I bought "Red Forest" by If These Trees Could Talk for $75 about a week and a half before they announced the repress from them having just signed to Metal Blade. My original press sounds a little better than the new ones, but still... basically wasted $55 there haha.
  13. Are you being facetious with that statement or not? I've bought from individuals on Discogs from overseas, and those records have been fine. Its just actual labels I've had bad luck with, so I just wondered if any other US residents have experience with this label
  14. does anybody have any remarks about Monotreme Records and their shipping practices? I'm about to buy a few records from them, but given that they are in the UK and I'm in the USA, shipping is fucking expensive, and I really don't want to spend all this money to have the albums arrive with seamsplits and bashed corners, among other things. So far, my only overseas label-purchase exeriences have been disastrous.
  15. Really? I've got the 3rd press clear that is still available, and man... if you like the album, you should pick it up. I LOVE how good the drums sound on that album, especially the ride cymbal. The mix is just perfect. Sunbather is slightly better, in production and source material, but man... i love my Roads To Judah copy haha
  16. Okay, a few things to address. First, you guys NEED to check band/album out, right now. If you like Rosetta/Isis, this will hit that spot so sweetly. North - What You Were https://galacticdads.bandcamp.com/album/what-you-were Please check this out. You can stream the album there, but better yet.... just buy the vinyl. These guys are blowing me away. Just beautiful, brutal heavy artful music. Second, I was talking to Translation Loss on facebook the other day and they are actually going to be repressing The Galilean Satellites, Wake/Lift, and A Determinism of Morality on vinyl over the next couple years. It's going to take a while, but it will happen. Which is fucking awesome, because its lame that they're so few copies of these albums around for vinyl people to listen to.
  17. Does the coloring really make that much of a difference in how it sounds? The only thing I've noticed with myself is that the clear records I have, are some of my favorite-sounding ones. I don't know if that's the result of a good initial mastering and the recording, but things like Deafheaven's "Roads to Judah" and Caspian "You Are The Conductor" just SLAY in how good they sound. RIGHT?!?!?! how is this band not huge?!?!?
  18. Will using a brush like that Audioquest one actually remove things from inside the grooves, or is it more for surface things like hair and paper sleeve particles left over? It's not so much static pops I'm looking to remove, but a lot of records I have are noisy with that rice krispies sort of sound going on. Every once in a while I'll have the loud actual pop but not super often. I think there's just dirt and dust and whatever else down in the grooves. I'm looking to just make them less noisy so that the quiet parts are quieter; would I be better served going for some sort of wet cleaning method like a Spinclean, or do you guys think a brush would suffice for what I'm after? I'm looking into some microfiber cloths too because I saw a video of a guy doing a home cleaning thing with just some distilled water, a couple drops of detergent, and microfiber cloths. I may do that as well, but would that be for excessively dirty records that are VERY noisy? Sorry if these are dumb questions, cleaning records is a totally new arena for me haha
  19. Cool, I'll check that out. I'm just so used to the lush sonic background of Isis with his singing.... Sumac sounds so empty, like the music is unfinished or missing additional instrumentation. By the way.... I need to share something with you guys if you like this music: North - What You Were http://galacticdads.bandcamp.com/album/what-you-were Holy. Fucking. Shit. I just got the vinyl in the mail yesterday and spun it today.... unreal music. Please check it out, these guys are unbelievable. It totally satiated the Isis fix I've been jonesing for. Just powerful, heavy, artful melodic brutality.
  20. I would kill for the first album on vinyl.... Soulfly was my fucking shit from 8th-10th grade.
  21. could it be that I just have a noisy pressing? Is that a thing? Because when I put the needle on for this Gates record, there's just a TON of noise. So much so that you can still hear it over the music. I was thinking about a SpinClean but that seems like such a gimmicy kind of thing.... do they actually work?
  22. So, I've been reading over the FAQ and checking out Needledoctor.com and everything they have there, but I would like to get opinions on what everyone uses to clean their records. This is thread is sparked by my just receiving a copy of Gates - You Are All You Have Left To Fear which sounds amazing, but is quite noisy. I also have some other records in dire need of a cleaning due to pops and static. So, I'm looking to pick up a brush to help clean off dust and hair and particles from the jackets. I'm also looking at an anti-static brush. Then I would also like to get something that actually cleans and de-statics the records. Any thoughts on this stuff: http://www.needledoctor.com/Stanton-VC-1-Vinyl-Cleaner or this: http://www.needledoctor.com/Gruv-Glide I'm kind of not sure where to really start.... I want to be able to brush off my records before I play them, and give a cleaning to the ones that have static and noise from being dirty.
  23. So, why do you guys no recommend Stanton turntables? My gf at the time bought me a T.62 which I've been using for years. I want to replace the cartridge for it, because I feel like I've been using it enough to need replacing (its going on 5 years old). I've had no problems with it though, and I like how my system sounds. Just curious why you say to avoid them?
  24. I feel like I would like this group a lot more with another guitarist, or if they had a keyboard player. The trio format usually just sounds so bare to me. That drummer is a monster though, wow
  25. Totally happened to me too, but I didn't go that far haha. I actually just finished listening to "Roads to Judah" on vinyl (spinning the new Baulta record now ) and I have Sunbather in my car at the moment. I know this might sound gay or whatever to those hardened internet collectors here, but Saturday after a long, grueling day of work I was listening to "Dreamhouse" on my ride home. The ride is short, and I got to my driveway about halfway through the song. Turned my car off, and just sat there with "Dreamhouse" finishing at full blast. The bridge fucking made me cry. It was so bizarre. The emotionality of the music just fucking engulfed me, and I started crying. It was kind of amazing. Not like a bawling emo-sissy thing, but like... kind of what happens when you watch soldier homecoming videos... just a sweet, emotional thing. This band is so good. I love that they actually use real production on their albums, and not the sampled mechanical sound most metal bands use today. I hate that shit. The drums sound like actual drums played by a person. These guys are high on my bucket list to see live. Could you imagine a show with like, Deafheaven, Junius, Rosetta, and like, sleepmakeswaves or something? drool...
