  1. Can anybody comment on the quality of the Bronze pressing of The Four Trees? I think I might be picking that up, just curious if anybody can speak to the playback quality?
  2. Quite possibly could spend $115 on an Oceansize record today....
  3. Can anybody else who has "Flies To Flame" by Rosetta in the highlighter yellow check their copy? I'm wondering if mine needs to be cleaned, but... I have a feeling its a shitty pressing, because the sound is just bad. Also, I was thoroughly unimpressed and kind of bummed by Russian Circles "Memorial" when I got that on vinyl. I was hoping for a big, titanic sound to go with those massive songs, but I much prefer the digital version. Can some of these bad pressings be poor mastering? Some records, like my Isis records, sound UNREAL. The sound just swarms out of the speakers and fills the room. Other times, like with the Rosetta and Russian Circles album, it sounds like, thin... and kind of gritty. It doesn't have that swelling warmth that I love about vinyl.
  4. In high school, my group of friends had an initiation thing we did to anybody else who wanted to enter our little clan. So our buddy Paul who is now my best friend chose to put Icy Hot on his balls as his initiation. We were all into metal, so we did dumb stuff like this to prove our worth haha, that we could man up and take it. Paul endured some pain.... and our other buddy Jordan was like "Dude what? That's weak, you're a pussy, there's no way that hurts at all." So the next week, while at my house with our whole crew, Jordan did the same thing. He went behind my garage and did it. We made him use an entire handful. 5 mins later he runs into my house, screaming. There was a bathroom next to my living room where my dad always hung out and watched TV. Jordan runs into the bathroom and slams the door, yelling and moaning. My dad is like "What the hell is going on?" so we tell him.... and Jordan is in the bathroom just moaning in agony, trying to wash it off and return to baseline, and my dad is sitting in his recliner near the door just laughing hysterically. I miss high school. haha
  5. I actually have "Dogs" by Beware of Safety on CD, its a good album. Maybeshewill is awesome. Fair Youth is my favorite album, that shit kills. The piano is brilliant. They remind me a lot of Waking Aida, who's album "Eschaton" is really great. Waking Aida is a little more... bright and poppy, sort of. More jamband-y in their post-rock approach. Hard to explain. Not as serious and dark and heavy as Maybeshewill can get. Is the band Sanhett what you guys were talking about? Oo yeahhh this is actually pretty good.... this is kind of exactly what I was looking for. Heavier, faster, more intense post-rock. Edit: These guys seem to be more metal, which is still cool... the song I was listening to was building more like a sleepmakeswaves song kind of but then they went into blastbeats haha. By the way the people in the few threads I saw were talking, I kinda thought there was ass-tons of bands like Caspian, Sleepmakeswaves, If These Trees Could Talk, etc. Listening to "Sisters Of..." right now. Very riffy and metal. I hope they bust into some speed-pick lead climaxes.... that would crush over these heavy riffs and grooves, and if they added some delay-rich guitar atmospherics. EDIT AGAIN: YES YES YES THIS MUSIC!!!! I'm listening to "In A Sea of Red Strands" by Sisters Of... and this is pretty much exactly what I'm after, minus the speed-picking crescendos. Its cool because they get even heavier, but man... that bridge groove KILLED.
  6. Still Sannhet is not on youtube anywhere... linksss??
  7. Sick that will be my check-out for tomorrow. Currently REALLY REALLY enjoying PG.Lost Not super-exactly what I was looking for, but I'm listening to "Its Not Me, It's You" right now and this CRUSHES. This is "slow" Post-rock to me. Like Mono, This Will Destroy You, etc. I'm looking for "fast" post-rock, like Caspian, Sleepmakeswaves, and If These Trees Could Talk
  8. sleepmakeswaves and Caspian are perfect exmaples of what I'm looking for... Faster post-rock I guess? I got the term crescendo-core from here anyway haha, I forget which thread it was.... something about Rosetta.
  9. Wish I got 30% off but don't care, this album fucking slays. Wish it was longer though! Every track is awesome. Can't wait to see these guys in a few weeks.
  10. Russian Circles I know. Really.... what I'm after are bands who do the crazy peaks and crescendos like Caspian and sleepmakeswaves. That really intense metal version of post-rock. Audrey Fall is another great band, you guys need to check out their album "Mitau"
  11. So, can anybody comment on their copy of "Flies To Flame"? I got the /700 yellow, and it sounds like fucking trash. Are you copies like this? Super noisy and very kind of gritty sounding? I'm wondering if I should seek out the green /300 press for better fidelity. Because honestly, the CD ***destroys*** this green record in terms of sound.
  12. Do you guys have this dude's email? I need a few of these records
  13. Word, thanks guys. I kind of differentiate this harder, more metal version of post-rock from the chiller, more ambient and softer post rock like Mono, Hammock, This Will Destroy You, etc. So that's why I asked
  14. Hey guys, so... the title kind of says it all. Looking for more music of this style, I can't fucking get enough of it!!! So, I already know these guys: Caspian sleepmakeswaves Rosetta If These Trees Could Talk Audrey Fall Sunlight Ascending Terronaut Please give me some more bands like this!
  15. Hahaha yeah I did the same thing last night with side 1.... and unfortunately, I was in the bathroom so I couldn't fix it immediately. La Cerva sounded pretty gnarly at 33rpm haha
  16. What, do you mean the "compressed" and kind of squashed sound? My theory is that its a lack of high end in the mastering... it's not a very bright record. The recent "Red Forest" repress suffers from this very same problem. The record still sounds great, but it has this quality of sounding like it has a ceiling... or that it's in a box. Its hard to explain. But it basically comes down to a lack of high end, I think. It doesn't *sparkle* the way say, Isis records have that brightness that sparkles out of your speakers.
  17. What's some stuff of theirs I should check out? I'm not familiar.
  18. Damn. So glad I pre-ordered that! Can't wait for that to arrive, and then a few weeks away is the shows!!!!
  19. Booklet? What would be in the booklet? Also, do you have the CD that came with Fair Youth?
  20. Listening to my clear pilsner press right now, actually. Anybody know why they did this at 45rpm? Just curious why some groups do that. Is there a benefit?
  21. Just got this in the mail this morning, spinning the vinyl right now. This sounds AMAZING. Rising to the top of my favorite presses. Perfect sound. Clear always wins.
  22. That would be so cool if they did that... The other thing that just didn't grab me about the album is the opening. It just... doesn't do anything. Mie takes forever to get to its build. Once the real songs hit, it's amazing.
