I own 4.  2 of them sound fabulous (Menomena, Weezer); one is solid and a huge improvement on the standard pressing (Fugees).  The only one I wouldn't recommend (Perfume Genius) sounds amazing when quiet but has spouts of noisiness.  Then again, it was pressed on white vinyl and I picked it up used at Amoeba...

    Sold. I'm signing up. Thanks.

    Realistically, fuck this.

I am a huge fan of Sublime and I couldnt wait to get my hands on this, but come on guys - this is just taking the piss?

    I can get all 6 LPs (3 x 180g's + 3 x newly released) for $172 through SRC (15% off coupon)

So they wanna charge me an additional $177 for extended Jah, slipmat (I could get printed for less than $10) and a couple prints in a (printed) cardboard box?

    Just gutted aye...

    Perfectly said.

  4. Deerhunter at Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh this past Thursday night. Pretty solid set of newer stuff with a few older songs mixed in.

Bradford was doing a crippled James Brown persona that was odd, but clearly his thing for this tour/record. He had a cane, and he wore a jacket over his shoulders that he'd occasionally shrug off. The lead guitarist looked sedated, but sounded good. He could liven up a little.

The new stuff was fun, but when they played two older songs for the encore, I was left thinking, "I wish the whole show was like this."

  5. Something I'd suggest if you're new to vinyl and playing a lot of old records, is that you shouldn't underestimate the value of cleaning the records prior to playing them. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars to get a fancy vacuum machine, but a discwasher brush and cleaning fluid or a good brush make more of a difference for the sound quality of the records than the very minor differences between the various amps and speakers in the entry-level price range...  most of all, have fun!

Couldn't agree more. I wish someone would have told me this years ago.
