Hes never going to return to the singing/metaphor lyrics of RHP or early SKM again. I don't know why people keep holding out hope. He actually discussed it a bit in the interview with Phoebe Bridgers.

It wasn't a goofy joke in the beginning. Their first couple records are legit good and spooky sounding. They've evolved into a pop rock joke band. Like I said Im glad they (he) succeeded but I'm definitely less and less interested as it gets goofier
