You know how I said I feel like people did not read Topshelf's entire statement... Well... I don't want to call you out but they're literally dealing with their own problems and they have funds set aside for an emergency because they have successfully been around that long. You might want to tone down your ignorance and take the time to read the links before commenting because you missed the mark with everything you've said.

These are grown ass men. Yikes. If you’re going to argue on the internet at least do it on a message board with a pseudonym like a normal well adjusted human,

Wow, don't know about you, but for me this Beach Slang news is like a heavy-hearted, youthful rebellion cigarette in the gutter, dusty thrashed record cover, glam-bam swagger of a kick in the balls.

Yeah... I may personally opt for Tertia over WS, but otherwise that is a damn fine list.  I hate that I’m becoming the heh, they don’t make ‘em like they used to dad cliche of post-rock.  I’d always roll my eyes when my old man would scoff at newer bands and insist that nothing really competes with the classics.  I know we’re shrinking that notion down to 1 genre but I feel it so much.  Even if bands like Mogwai and Godspeed (and definitely GIAA) are not releasing albums on par with the quality they set a decade+ ago, some of those earlier albums are still timeless to me and what I consider to be the pinnacle of the genre, regardless of what those same bands are outputting today.  There’s a reason the albums have become a landmark or standard in discussions.  Every once in a while there’s a newer post-rock band or scene that does something memorable or enticing, but so, so, so much of it is Gumbocore or prime for A Thousand Arms’ distro, and it does little for me.

I feel like that wave of post-rock you’re referring to... there’s not a ton out there that compares.  Slint, etc. are considered grandfathers of the genre, but as far as crescendos, quiet-loud dynamics, and other post-rock tropes that have been done to death, I think it’s a blessing to thrive in a lifetime where that all existed, was relevant for a time, and is still easily accessible.  Born too early and it’s all experimental, new-age noise.  Born too late and you’re stuck with the Dunk! Fest roster.  I’m not claiming that I was listening to Mogwai when I was 9 years old, but the genre was really exploding and pioneering new musical ground when I was a teen, at my hungriest stage of music exploration.  And for that I’ll always consider myself lucky.

Just an FYI to all you fellow Vennart fans theres a new single called Dick Privilege, full things streamable on his site. Video/Download/7" Gammon coloured vinyl drops tomorrow 9AM (I'm assuming that's GMT/UK time zone).

The track is absolutely filthy sounding. Reminds me of Oceansize's rhythm section's side project KONG.

Not sure if this means another album is on the way, I know Biffy spent most of last year doing that score and recording album 8 with a view to that dropping this year but they still record in the studio as a three piece as far as I understand. Doesn't make the time frame implausible for Mike to have finished something more than just a 7", what it may mean though is that if there is something bigger in the works it might not get toured upon release or it could be held back from release until it's possible to tour in support of it.

Purely speculation because any Vennart news makes my pants fizz.

Looks like copies of the standard and collector's editions are up on the UK/EU store: http://mewithoutyou.awesomedistro.com/ - no pics yet and only the orange LP is listed under the standard edition, so maybe (hopefully!) they're still getting bits and pieces together.

Mine is also missing. Consider it more of a poignant statement, rather than an annoyance!

I'm listening to it now and it's basically the same with the added bonus of more flips. My dog (who has great hearing btw) tells me it sounds wider, fuller, snappier (and also that she wants to be fed in return of this knowledge).

And the winner is...randomfortunepa. There were a lot of gasps and awws from my wife as she looked through the entries. Her reasoning for the winner was, "I love black cats and I love Halloween." So there's that. Thanks for everyone who joined!

Full disclosure, the shit that went down when I was going to give this 7" away initially was that one of our cats was diagnosed with cancer and was gone within a month. It was one of the hardest things I've had to go through, so sharing all these cat pictures was a great tribute. Hug your babies close!

To be fair music is subjective but people are still really bad at consuming it.  There are a ton of meme bands discussed on VC and it’s just the nature of the beast.  You have every right to get hyped on an Early November record when you’re in your 40s but you gotta’ know that has its ramifications.
