  1. I actually got in on this. I'm so bad at remembering. Good deal though.
  2. I don't disagree. I seem to have better luck at the Zia's on Thunderbird (where most of my teens was spent but I rarely hit Zia's anymore). I live a mile from the Camelback store and it always seems to be picked over. I haven't yet been to Double Nickels but I want to. I'm hoping some of these shops will have someone knowledgeable in Dub. I read and buy a lot and some of it is terrible but I'm ready to progress past the Lee Scratch Perry and King Tubby phase. Also, Stinkweeds is like 100 yards from my front door so we (my daughter and I) end up there for RSD.
  3. Nothing much happens in the armpit of the universe (Phoenix) but we have 2 stores I really like: Stinkweeds records (mostly new stuff leaning toward Wilco and stuff like that although they have began carrying more of what I like). The owner was the drummer for a showgaze band in the late 80's and seems to know many people (Sharon Jones, the Wilco guy and others seem to stop by when in town) The Record Room (has a pretty good punk/post punk and dub selection). I always find good stuff there.
  4. I don't know if this has already been posted in here but there's a record club that sends one LP or one LP and one 7" each month from a library of ambient, drone, techno or house music. I am debating trying it but am a little scared as I detest house music. I'm all in for ambient and drone though. Its called: That Special Record
  5. Why such smarminess? WTF did I do to bring such fucking hatred and trolling? This is like the fucking Steve Hoffman boards. Christ
  6. True, but there are many people who buy discs based on how pretty they are. There's obviously a market for cool looking discs regardless of pressing quality and I want to avoid that.
  7. I'm unsure. I want his album and could care less about it being a picture disc, but this disc will be played. A lot. Often. and if it sounds shitty I'll be pissed. Decisions, desicisons....
  8. I have a recent disc which is 2 thin records pressed together with a paper insert. I would think these would be better than the traditional silk screened variety but what do I know.
  9. So Killing Joke is re-releasing a bunch of their classic stuff on Picture Disc. While I'd love to have these to hang, I ultimately buy them to play. They are about the same price as a VG+ used copy on Discogs so I'm wondering if its worth it or just buy regular discs used. Thanks
  10. Based on posts here I've been checking this out and I like it. Nothing cutting edge but a good sound for sure. I may pick this up.
  11. Stupid question but what is the allure of the test pressing? Higher quality pressing? Limited availability? I'm asking out of ignorance.
  12. I don't know. I mean, if you're happy with what you have then does it matter if its not high dollar? Mine is pedestrian at best in comparison but I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I'd rather buy records than gear, though it is exciting elevating the quality of the sound you hear.
  13. This morning I spun Solutions for a small planet. Sounds BIG. Very in your face. Money well spent.
  14. Albums arrived today from Helsinki by way of Toronto. Ninetynine sounds amazing. Beautifully quiet pressing . I got the trans blue Solutions for a Small Planet and trans white Ninetynine.
  15. Yeah. As bad as I want it, im not sure I $138 want It.
  16. This is an album I desperately want repressed. Especially in the autumn (or what passes for autumn in the armpit of the universe).
  17. Damn, why am I not finding that?! OK, I feel dumb. For whatever reason I googled and got cd releases and such and not this. Thanks
  18. Not to change the topic of this thread, but does anyone know if the cover JEW did of Prodigy's Fire Starter has been or will be released on vinyl? I'm not a fan of theirs but that cover is amazing.
  19. Loved this album when it was released. Saw them on this tour too, just 5 shows before Shannon died. Bummer. I'll be grabbing this though.
  20. I wanted to add a revelation I come to recently and then ask Help. FIrst off, I had been fairly content with my Spin Clean when cleaning new discs and VG+ records though recently I noticed crust on a few records while drying. Because the climate here is crazy dry, I've been air drying as mf cloths will generate some surface static noise. At the advice of this thread I bought 2 cases of Aquafina and sub'd that for the gallon jugs of Kroger distilled water I had been buying. The result is very noticeable. Add me to the list of people who advise this. A definite difference. Now to the question(s). I picked up a bottle of AI #6 as I had a Marley record I wanted to bring back from the dead as well as. Milestone davis record I bought under the premis it was VG+. I would grade it G+ do to some fairly hairy clicks and pops. I do not have a vacuum RCM currently but wanted to see what the enzymes could do with these records and more. My method is the following: Spin Clean (w/Aquafina) Apply AI#6 to record and use paint edger to spread. Pulling the pad backward clockwise seemed to glide easy and spread the solution nicely. Paint pad moving forward counter clockwiSe seemed to make the bristles enter the gRooves against the grain and so a few revolutions to work it in. Let sit 2-4 mins and then rinsed with Aquafina (from old Iso prop bottle with spout top). Spin Clean in Aquafina (no SC solution). Dry and repeat for 2nd side. (open to advice on my method. Yes I will get a RCM when cash allows) Results: Marley - definite improvement. Natural Mystic was loaded with pops. There are maybe 50% less and the remaining ones are much muted. Pre-enzyme I'd have rated it as poor, now Good-. Miles - as I said, I felt it was Good+ and would now rate it VG-. Most of the pops are gone and what's left is muted. Pretty happy. I still want a mini copy but it's now playable. Both records are now playable at Least. The Miles record will last me until I breakdown get a mono copy. The Marley will last until I get around to replacing it. IVe been far more into Burning Spear and Upsetters lately so who knows that I'll get around to it. So question time: both records made some improvement and maybe they have nothing left to give. But I'm wondering if it'd be a worthy idea to use the paint pad and some cleaner to scrub these records down and then run the enzyme treatment again? Any thoughts on improving my process? Thanks
