  1. The Bell Jar is a new project that Josh, Patrick, and Garrett have been working on, I'm not sure if anyone else is part of it. It's much louder, I'd say sounding much more in line with their Life/Kisses days than anything, but way more synth-heavy. I've only a few songs and they're pretty cool, but also very early demo stage. https://twitter.com/LowerTheBellJarif you want to keep up.
  2. They're still trying. Their Capitol contact was chatting with them for quite awhile - seems like they got further with the process than most others have been able to get - but then stopped responding to emails. That's where it's at as of last time I spoke to them. Really sucks, but I guess that's the way it goes. On the flip side, The Bell Jar stuff is sounding really cool? Anyone who liked the No Sir era of Showbread will probably be into this.
  3. To start? Get yourself a french press, read a bit on how to use it, head down to your local small-time coffee shop or roaster, tell them exactly what you wrote there, and ask for help picking a coffee. A quick google search for Dallas says "Crooked Tree Coffeehouse", "Oak Lawn Coffee", and "Murray Street Coffee" are all rated pretty high, or just do a bit of your own research to find a place that looks good to you. When you decide on a bag of coffee, chances are they can grind it there for you - tell them you use a french press, and they'll pick the right setting for you; it will be course grind. Coffee will always taste best when it's freshly ground right before you use it, but setting yourself up with a proper grinder and other things can be a pretty hefty investment, so having the whole bag ground in advance will do just fine for what you want. Again, do a bit of research on how to use your press, measure out your coffee, and time it properly. Leaving the coffee in the press for too long will over-extract and give you a gross bitter taste. Taking it too soon will leave the coffee a bit weak and watery. Play with it a bit, find something you like. Fair warning - the coffee that you make will likely taste strong and harsh, and it's pretty possible you'll hate it. There's nothing wrong with adding sugar and dairy to your coffee if that's what you like, so go for it. Do me a favor, though, and every time you make a cup of coffee, taste it first just black, without adding anything. Do this every time, just a little sip. Over time I think you'll find yourself enjoying it with less dairy/sugar. I'm a barista at an espresso bar, and this is my ideal customer - someone who comes in not knowing anything at all, but is excited to learn and will really listen to any advice I can give or anything else I have to say.
  4. I'm just bummed about the shipping prices. $32 for one of them, $42 for mine and my buddy's together. That, combined with the really poor Canadian dollar at the moment, makes this about $165 CAD. And yet I still bought it. The fuck?
  5. Although the Box Set was a 2xLP, 7", cd, lyric book, signed poster, etc (all housed in a box, of course) for $40. A 2xLP and poster for $50 seems a bit much.
  6. Weird to see another person here a) living in Hali and b) buying Bazan records. I'll also vouch for Toki being an a+ dude and he would give those records a great home.
  7. Rad, makes the cost of this $14 shipped for 2 to Canada. Caaaaaaaaaaan do!
  8. Fuckin' hell. $17 shipping to Canada, $34 if I add a second one. Anyone wanna hook a brother up?
  9. And done. Grabbed an EP for myself, plus the EP + The Season for my roommate. I'm keeping whatever one I like best and telling him the other one was always his.
  10. How dare you, this release should be reserved exclusively for the real fans, and by picking it up out of curiosity you're successfully keeping it out of the hands of the real people who deserve it and have waited years for this. Leave it alone. (/sarcasm)
  11. Just want to say that Bad Timing is already killing it this year and it's only February. I've got a first press of All Get Out so I didn't jump on this one, but my Mansions and KDev came in the other day and they're damn well put together. Great job and thanks again for hooking me up.
  12. I love supporting local, but sometimes the local shops make it really hard to even want to. I'm in Canada, and even including shipping from the artist I can usually get a record for cheaper than my local record store charges, it really gives me no reason to want to support them. I understand that they have lots of costs and taxes to pay and need to make money, but when you're selling normal Bright Eyes records for $30, something is wrong. Not to mention, there's only one worker there who isn't a dick. I want this album, but unfortunately chances are I will be buying it through Amazon.
  13. Yeah, I for sure would be in for that. I'll buy that and KS for sure if I can manage to get here in time. Is New Best Friends totally gone now too?
  14. Thomas, any chance those extra Mansions that may or may not be a thing go back up today? I can't really justify the shipping for just one 2xLP to Canada, but if I grabbed a few things at once it would be more worth it. I expect I'll miss out again anyways because of work, but at least I could try to get in on it.
  15. Shit, guess this is what happens when I work too much. Wasn't expecting to come in here to all of them sold already. Anybody have an extra they'd sell to me when they start shipping? I was going to finally grab this and New Best Friends together but I guess I'll have to wait again.
