  1. Yea, I have already started with the tv/media room and kitchen. So I can play audio from the home theater to the kitchen as well as I can hook up an audio device in the kitchen (play 5) and listen to it on the home theater as well. Play music throughout the whole house and it be the same source or up to 32 possible sources. I already have a NAS with all of my music on it that is a source, the home theater as a source, pandora as a source, amazon mp3 as a source, tune in radio as a source. It is a highly functional system. Eventually I plan to have the whole house set up. The next step is to do a decent audio setup in the office, and then do an outdoor setup with another connect amp and outdoor speakers by the pool outside. All of this is controllable through a smartphone or tablet. A neat feature is you can set it up so that when a local source starts playing music that it plays to a set of speakers. In other words, turn on the record player and put on a record and it plays music without having to select the source input in the app. For me the versatility is more important than the audio quality. This is what I have now. So, it won't take too much to impress me. I listen and collect records for the fun factor more than the audiophile perspective over digital music. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzI3WDcwMA==/z/G0MAAOxyyF5RR8a3/$T2eC16h,!wsE9suw0QRuBRR8,3Ugug~~60_1.JPG?set_id=880000500F Another option would be to use a sonos connect and an integrated amplifier and a TT without a preamp, but the price difference between a connect and a connet:amp is $150, and I don't think an integrated amp for around $150 is reasonable, and I don't want to go too much over $1200. I have read good things about the Denon for what it is and the price that it is. Thanks for the input yanquiuxo. I do not really understand your point with it not sounding good with an analog source other than it will make it sound digitized and probably less warm. I doubt I would be able to pick that up. I know that the sonos:connect doesn't have a preamp, and that was why I was looking at the denon since it has a built in one and the reason why I am pretty set on it. I am also more interested in the automatic function over a turntable that isn't automatic, one I have to change belts around if I want to change speeds, and doesn't have a pre-amp for something that may only have marginal sound improvement (to my ears). Keep in mind, that to me, my current panasonic system sounds pretty good. As you can tell, I am pretty set on the TT, and the sonos:connect. If you guys do not think that the wharfedales are a good match, then please recommend a set of speakers that would be a good match. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to a lot of this stuff, as well as what speakers would be a good match for the rest of the system. I just picked the wharfedales based on the high praise. In short, I like to listen to records, but I don't have the time quite to do it right or to really enjoy my records that I have and instead of spending money on having a really nice record player system, I would rather do a whole home audio system.
  2. I read the beginners thread on audio equipment. I am looking into replacing my old panasonic all in one player (tape, record, and AM/FM with mixer) from the late 80's or so. I have started with a sonos system and I would like to continue with that. What I am thinking about buying is the following. Let me know if I am making any mistakes or if something won't work right. I have looked into getting a nicer table and also getting a seperate pre-amp, but I like the automatic feature of this turn table. I am pretty lazy and with having a young family I get distracted and would hate for me to leave a record on too long and the needle hit the paper inner. I chose what I think are fairly nice speakers because for the most part this system will only use the turn table about a fourth of the time so if the TT is the weak link in the system that is fine. My main concerns are if there is a better TT for my application or if my speakers will not be matched to the connect amp very well. Amp description says: AmplifierClass-D. Rated output 110W RMS (2x55W continuous average power into 8 ohms, THD+N<0.02%) with both channels driven, 22Hz-20KHZ-AES17 measurement bandwidth The only thing that I am set on is that it be able to play music through my sonos system and if it is done so with a connect instead of a connect:amp let me know if I can do so with about the same price. This comes out to about $1200 TT - Denon DP300F http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FMNBXG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=19H60U4O1JAOV&coliid=I1J9UMTTSKWUQC Speakers - Wharfedale 10.1 http://www.amazon.com/Wharfedale-DIA101-ROS-WHARFEDALE-DIAMOND-ROSEWOOD/dp/B0079XG4TW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388342268&sr=8-1&keywords=wharfedale+10.1 Amp - Sonos Connect Amp http://www.amazon.com/SONOS-CONNECT-Streaming-Amplifier-ZonePlayer120/dp/B001CROHU4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1388342581&sr=1-1&keywords=sonos+connect+amp
  3. you can go into irc and talk to someone to re-enable your account. I did it, it wasn't too difficult. They highly frown on someone using a new account with an IP that they have seen before. Joining #what.cd-disabled #what.cd-disabled is an open channel for anyone whose account or invites have been disabled. You don't need to register your nick with nickserv to join. All it takes are 4 simple steps: 1. Setup your IRC client with name, e-mail, and default nick (name and e-mail can be fake). You may want to look at the documentation for your particular client on how to do it. 2. Connect to the irc.what-network.net server with your IRC client port 6667 or port 6697 (in mIRC, it's /server irc.what-network.net:6667 or /server irc.what-network.net:+6697) 3. Type /join #what.cd-disabled 4. Follow channel topic instructions, and then wait. Do not private message anyone without asking first.
  4. Yea, I think that is mostly what I am talking about coming from a drumming background. I don't know much about guitars really so I just took others word that DM could play pretty good and really talented. I found it pretty surprising that in the best guitarrist of our generation thread I kept seeing John Mayer pop up. I mean, I knew he was good, but I didn't know he was that good. I also found it surprising that the Muse bassist is supposed to be one of the best of our generation. I just never noticed. For me, personally, I would have said this guy was the best guitarrist of my generation. A true genius. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Weinman
  5. I like the lyrics. Sometimes they are a little too dramatic and over the top, but I don't listen to music for it to be mundane and stale. The vocals I have grown to love, but at first I almost stopped listening after the first 5 seconds of his voice. They are pretty much love/hate and every once in a while I think his vocals sound amazing and every once in a while I am embarrassed for listening to it. Musically, I really like what they are doing and at least the drummer is talented (I know nothing about guitars). They sound super clean and use a lot of instruments very well, I like how they are doing somewhat technical stuff without it overpowering the music and coming off as "showy". I appreciate how they can go from loud to soft pretty seamlessly. I just don't get why people put effort into hating on a band. If you don't like it, then who cares. Who made you god of the music goodness rating system? There are tons of bands that I think are horrible that I don't care if people like them or not. I am also 30 years old, so I don't fall into the angsty 19 year old crowd. The last album dealt with serious issues like depression, crime in black america, mental illness, losing loved ones, and wondering what the future holds for you and if you will be able to cope with the tragedy and pain and not actually knowing until it happens. The last album was more mature than the "a girl doesn't like me anymore, lets cry about it together" type stuff. Now touche amore, I really don't understand why so many people like that band. The music is bland and very static (as in not going anywhere). The lead singers lyrics sound like he is on the verge of suicide because no one wants to be his friend all the time, and my response is "well no-one wants to be your friend because you are on the verge of suicide all the time brah". I also don't here much talent coming out of their music either. Someone brought up Dave Mathews band and I used to be a hater because of their fans and how everyone wanted to go on and on about how they were the best band to grace the earth. Then I spent some time and listened to them and realized that they are some of the most talented musicians I have ever heard and just not my cup o' tea.
  6. No one said that "Bose sucks". They make some really nice stuff. However, they have a huge marketing department that you are essentially paying for. So a lot of times you can buy cost comparable stuff to them that sounds better. If you like it, then awesome. You don't need to impress anyone but yourself. Bose does not have a magic trick that makes their speakers better than others. I am not saying that your system sounds bad but maybe your "audiophile" friends are just being polite. They are not going to give you an unbiased opinion. If I had a friend that spent a lot of money on a Bose system and they wanted to reaffirm that they made a good choice by asking me of my opinion, I would think it would be pretty rude to be like "nah dawg, you got ripped off, that sounds like shit". Like I said. If you like it, then awesome. You don't need to impress anyone but yourself. Ignorance is bliss. I actually feel bad for some people who are more audiophile or whatever than me. They would probably also tell you that it is a slippery slope of constantly wanting to upgrade. I have met some people who are not actual audiophiles, but they like to impress people with expensive stuff and assume that more expensive is always better. To answer your initial question, I would probably save up to buy a new turntable. Or look into a a nicer older turntable for cheap. Trying to fix something that costs more than it's worth doesn't make too much sense to me.
  7. Person 1: Did you hear that the actress Reese killed her husband? Ya know, the one in cruel intentions and sweet home alabama. I can never think of her last name. Person 2: Witherspoon? Person 1: No, with her knife! That is my favorite joke. I always fuck up the delivery or it doesn't work out right and ends up being even funnier. Another one... Person 1: How many people are dead in that cemetery? Person 2: I don't know, a couple hundred or so... Person 1: All of them! ROFL And finally.... Person 1: How many cars can you name that start with P? Person 2: Porsche, Pontiac, Pinto... Person 3: You idiot! Cars start with gasoline, not pee! I have been a victom of all three of those.
  8. I am just going to list albums that I actually listened to in order of favorite to least favorite this year. As I get older, I get more jaded and while you kids have like 50 favorite albums, I do not have the desire nor time to sift through all the crap and I end up just going back to what I have always liked. There are only 3 bands in the last 5 years that I have listened to and generally like everything they do and that is La Dispute, Heartsounds and Defeater. A Wilhelm Scream - Partycrasher Defeater - Letters Home Macklemore - The Heist (technically 2012) Dillinger Escape Plan - One Of Us Is The Killer The Flatliners - Dead Language Heartsounds - Internal Eyes Bands that I have liked in the past that I heard this year and went just meh on. Alkaline Trio - My Shame is True Polar Bear Club - Death Chorus Eminem - MMLP2 Iron Chic I am excited about the new Lawrence Arms and Strung Out. Singles and top 40 on the other hand I thought were pretty solid for 2013 with Ke$ha, Justin Timberlake, Myley Cyrus (the we like to party song), Jay Z, Robin Thicke, Daft Punk, That Cups song, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and a bunch of others. I found myself listening to top 40 singles more than I did full albums in 2013. Katy Perry will probably end up with like 5 or so singles off of her new album even though I have only heard roar and I think it is just OK. So you can hate me and tell me I'm wrong or that I like stupid music or that because I like pop music that I don't know anything about music. I gave up a long time ago of liking stuff because other people like it, or that I am supposed to like it, or because it is cool to like it. Know Thyself
  9. I refer to it as "How shit's made". I'm quite clever. I am a big fan of the show. It used to be on netflix and I watched quite a bit of it, but now that it is not it isn't a show that I take the time to download.
  10. Double up is one of my favorite albums of all time. I think I almost listened to nothing else for an entire year. I went from Double Up to the AWS EP back and forth constantly. I am serious. His other stuff is hit or miss for me. I was a fan of trapped in a closet, and then after chapter 13 or so I couldn't wrap my brain around it anymore. There is a video on youtube where you can watch R Kelly watch trapped in the closet....it is amazing.
  11. Is 55W per channel powerful enough? I know power is a very relative thing (rms and peak) and I am more interested in clarity without distortion. I am mostly interested in playing music at a reasonable volume evenly throughout the house.
  12. That isn't the most horrible thing I have ever heard and by far the best of this thread.
  13. I am thinking about getting a sonos system for christmas. Then later updating my turntable setup. I am thinking about eventually getting a connect:amp to connect a turntable to that and that would then allow me to play records throughout the house on sonos speakers. It would also allow me to listen to other stuff than the record player through the nicer speakers connected to the connect:amp. I am assuming that to use it, you would need a pre-amplifier built into the turntable, or have a pre-amplifier as well as a turntable. It has RCA input. So it would be the following and correct me if I am wrong. turn table (looking at debut carbon) preamplifier (what would be a good one for this system) connect:amp speakers (looking at Wharfedal Diamond 10.1) Does anyone have any thoughts about it or any sonos products. I have only read good reviews on it. http://www.amazon.com/SONOS-CONNECT-Streaming-Amplifier-ZonePlayer120/dp/B001CROHU4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384208110&sr=8-1&keywords=connect+amp http://www.sonos.com/shop/products/connectamp?lang=en-us&region=us&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=General_Exact&utm_campaign=Brand_Product-CONNECT%3AAMP&utm_term=sonos+connect+amp&gclid=COCWn9zf3boCFe9Y7AodlFYAAA&gclsrc=ds
  14. boom boom boom....let me hear you say way-ho .....but this version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82VtBxeJH3I I don't know how often I get that little diddy stuck in my head.
  15. I'll trade a tvtorrents invite for a what.cd invite. I used to have what.cd but didn't go to it for a while and lost it
  16. With things like slavery and people living in extreme poverty still going around in the world, is other people doing what they want with THEIR money buying music really what upsets you most in this world? Get some perspective. So what if labels are trying to make money. Last time I checked, I like money. I don't work for free, and I doubt you work for free as well. Why don't you go up to your boss and be like "I have been paid adequate enough to live with minimum food/shelter, please keep the rest of my pay".
  17. Mine was shipped October 9th from SF and has been in the east coast since October 13th......I'm in the midwest. I was really hoping to get this today.
  18. Was that the real mix for the song on youtube? The song sounds amazing, but I can't get past the mix. I ordered anyways, but this might be the first AWS album I'm not into.
  19. 3/20.........you figure I would have got at least half of them
  20. I was gonna mention that one too. But.....less bright eyes, more deicide! I also like Queen - You're my best friend
  21. I can't believe no-one has mentioned the decriminalization/legalization of Marijuana there.....I don't know if that's your thing or not, but I personally think it is cool and I have no horse in that race. I would love Colorado for just all the hiking and mountain biking. Have fun!
  22. Underoath - TOCS The Bled - Pass The Flask (I listened to the one after that for a while, but in reality nothing came close to Pass The Flask)
  23. Dustin Kensrue - Pistol (our first dance song) Just listened to it last night and it rings more true as the years go by
