Who would ever want to turn into someone who buys records to listen to, not just to have them!

While I don't buy records that are in poor condition (the media itself, if just the cover is damaged, oh well, a good deal is a good deal) why would I tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't do?

Do I think it's silly to throw money at something just to own it if it doesn't fulfill its intended use? Sure. Am I here to "rain on someone's parade?" Nah.

Sure seems like you're being the man-child here though; not sure what I did to rile you up since I barely recognize your username and certainly hadn't responded to this thread yet.

And as far as the accuracy of what people are saying in this thread...OP asked whether or not we do something...why would anyone lie about whether or not they buy beat up records?

Let me ask you seriously, I'm not trying to be  snarky, your copy of Kind of Blue, is it listenable? If it isn't, what made you decide to pick it up?

Part of the reason I don't buy damaged  records is because I don't have room to store what is essentially garbage anymore. It's also partly why I don't collect multiple copies of most records.

" since I barely recognize your username"

Yeah, cuz i have a life and don't sit here 24/7.

'Part of the reason I don't buy damaged  records is because I don't have room to store what is essentially garbage anymore. It's also partly why I don't collect multiple copies of most records."

Yeah, good for you.  Not everyone shares your collecting philosophy, so no need to judge others.  I'm sure you're a super funny guy in real life, just not on the internet.

"our copy of Kind of Blue, is it listenable?"

Yeah, it is.  Especially after i cleaned it up.  I would grade it a G+/G+.  Eventually i'll come across a better copy and sell off the one i have for a few bucks.  OR give it away, who knows.  Regardless, i'm not paying retail for an original.

"I don't have room to store what is essentially garbage"
I'd bet your King Gizzard collection that i could find "garbage" in your collection.  To each their own.  I'm here to help out others, not to bring them down with worthless inside jokes.

  2. Hey, OP, this board is filled up with pretentious record snobs.  Don't expect an accurate answer from anyone here.  If you see a record you want, buy it.  Who cares what the condition is?  Record collecting is about YOU and what YOU want to collect.  Once you start collecting for the sake of others, then you turn into sunshine, randy savage or the paul rudd guy.  Don't let these immature man-children rain on your parade.  I guarantee you they are just blowing smoke.  I found a beat to hell copy of kind of blue in a $.25 bin. You better believe i snatched it up as quick as possible.

There are a few copies of this album which were pressed with the test press plates.  These have some different songs (one of which is still unreleased) and a different order of tracks.  The only way to know if you have this version is to play it.  The cover, label, everything is the same.   I nearly had my hands on one and the seller was nickle-and-diming me over shipping so i pulled out.  I'll find it one day.

Honey, don't even go there. I'm currently on a three-month sub but will NOT renew after Gatefoldgate.

lol so dramatic over a freaking record.  what's it like to let something so minor affect you so greatly?  It must be nice, being so oblivious to the world that you get your panties in a bunch over a freaking gatefold.  I love it though.  All your posts are just whining about something or telling other people how they suck and you are just the bees knees.

We have a word for people like you:  insecure.  I'd recommend talking to a professional.  They can help you get your priorities in order.  Once you feel better about yourself, you will start to show more respect for others.  You are a very fragile person and I feel bad for you.

Hang in there man.  It will get better.

There's no finer moment than when you slowly slit open the cellophane wrapping down the opening spine of your newly-delivered overpriced record reissue. After fumbling through the awkward process of tearing that baby off, you slowly turn her around, sneaking glances at every corner to make sure she's as perfect as the early mockup looked. Not a bumped corner or wrinkle in sight. You advance now as your heart rate increases.

And then, the moment that can only be rivaled by actual coitus,  you grab the opening slit with your fingertips to unveil its inner gatefold beauty and WHAT IN THE ABSOLUTE FUCK, IT'S JUST A SINGLE SLEEVE???

Sorry you can't afford to be a VMP member

I don't give a shit how nice they are. All that "detail oriented" thinking is just a front for being new to vinyl and not knowing anything. I'd be surprised if more than 10% of that community has been collecting records for more than a few years. As someone who is actually detail oriented and well informed that hive mind of ignorance over there looks like it requires more patience than what I'm capable of lol

I hear ya.  I'm sure I'll be old and stubborn one day.  But for now, i'll keep enjoying the records that VMP puts out.

That's on VMP. A big part of their sales pitch is hyping up details like that and setting the expectation. If a significant part of your marketing focuses on tip-on jackets and gatefold artwork and liner notes and the lifestyle experience, your customers are going to perceive that as a significant part of the value. Meanwhile, when you and I buy records from listings that are just a digital proof of the LP cover and no other details other than vinyl color or weight, we're happy with whatever comes as long as it is in new condition, plays, and sounds good. The healthy vinyl lifestyle, IMO.

Indeed.  This record has never been released as a gatefold, so it's a significant selling point.  The extra artwork, etc.  It's a significant miss for sure.  Lots of people wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

I got mine today and the record is so damn pretty tho.  Haven't spun it yet.  But yeah, gatefold would be nice.

Clearly your priority is letting everyone know your priority as rudely as possible.

Lol what?  Careful with that edge there guy.

Pretty hilarious tho, as i was calling out someone who was throwing a hissy because their precious colored vinalzzsz are not as abundant as they want.

EDIT: Jesus Christ dude.  Your post history is pathetic.  Why do you have such an inflated sense of self worth?  All your posts are either talking shit or backtracking after you get called out.  Pretty worthless.  Good luck sleeping till 1pm and staying up on VC all night lol

The "insiders" seem to think the live shows are limited.  I feel the same way, dump the album later if it turns out to be a turd.

Sidebar:. As I typed the word "turd", I hit the Spacebar and my phone listed a few suggestions of what to write next.  "Ferguson" was one of these words.

Yup. The new album is probably garbage so they want to drive sales by adding records they KNOW fans will buy.   Fine by me.  (2) 4 LP live albums are worth the $89 right there. Easily.  They would be $89 each if it was an RSD release.

As someone who doesn’t own that Arctic Monkeys record; please hit me up if you’ve got a subscription but have no interest in owning it or swapping for next month.  Will gladly just give you some cash for it... otherwise I’ll just prowl Discogs for someone offloading one.  I seem to have decent luck securing VMP subs that way.

Why don't you just sign up for one month?

eh, probably, I don't mind them cutting it with room to breathe.  3 songs a side averaging about 15 min a side is not unreasonable. And pretty consistant with every record they have cut so far.

Yeah, i mean, that's great, but i still (personally) don't like it.  I don't like changing sides every other song.  I don't like spending $80 on "live at luther college" because of unnecessary vinyl and packaging.  Really wish they would (also) release a black, 2 LP version.  No frills.

Pretty shocked that they sold out of that  $350 boxset already. I know it was limited to 500 but it was just the 10 records and they all seem to be $20-$25 individually (at least the ones currently available). Plus the box being sold for $45.  So it seemed crazy overpriced.

    Not surprised.
