  1. No matter how much i love the old boys night out, the new album is boring. I think i spun it once and then gave it to my girlfriend and she doesnt even like it. Sad. i used to love the hell out of those guys. oh well at least they had 2 solid albums. I keep flip-flopping on the new BNO. There's some reaaaaaaally good songs on it ("Get Your Head Straight," "Up With Me," "Hey Thanks"), but a lot of it coasts by without me even remembering it.
  2. I plead with all of you to please, please, please wear earplugs at every concert you go to. I've been wearing them since August '99, and since then, I've probably gone to around 1000 shows (I'm estimating here, but I know I've gone to 400+ since moving to Cleveland in '04, so I imagine 1000 total isn't much of a stretch). I can't even imagine how poor my hearing would be if I didn't wear earplugs. I don't really even understand the argument for not wearing earplugs, either -- it's not like most punk clubs have crisp, clear PAs that allow you to hear everything, nor do most punk bands sound incredibly pristine live. Wearing earplugs hardly detracts from the experience, especially when you consider what it can save in the long run. Maybe I sound like a parent here, but you only get one set of ears. If you lose your hearing, that's it. Game over. Sure, hearing aids can help to an extent, but the more you damage your eardrums, the less you'll be able to appreciate the nuances in recorded music. Seriously, please wear earplugs.
  3. Agreed, a lot of times, the stuff I find has more resonance are records that come out of left field -- smaller bands who aren't getting crazy amounts of hype on the internet or anything, but just quietly assembled a bunch of really good songs. That's why my favorite record of the year thus far is this: It's just four kids from San Diego who no one had really paid any attention to, and they wrote a hell of a record. It's not without its small blemishes and mistakes, but the fact that they made it with no pressure on them or no expectations makes those blemishes seem more natural and better.
  4. I was wondering how that new Thrice record is. How does it hold up to their past stuff Scott? Were you stoked on Vheissu? Then you'll be stoked on this. Otherwise, there's not much for fans of their first three records. There's some seriously ambitious shit on it.
  5. I don't think your Atom & His Package CDs deserve to sit next to your Explosions In The Sky CDs.
  6. Okay, for real, there has been one dude on the cover this year with any sort of makeup on, and that was Davey Havok -- and I'm willing to bed almost everyone on here owns a record by the dude. (I personally don't because I've never been an AFI fan, but still.) Consider the balls busted.
  7. Not a fan. They just feel too cold and mechanical to me.
  8. So the package finally showed up yesterday (over two weeks after placing it), and because I wasn't already peeved at them, they decided to go ahead and make one of the shirts I bought (a Pelican one) an American Apparel shirt. Of course, this was not marked anywhere on the site, and I wouldn't have ordered it had it been, as AA shirts run much smaller than "regular" shirts from Hanes or whatever. So I wrote them this yesterday: I still haven't heard back 24 hours later. Perusing their website, it says they accept returns but the customer must pay shipping. Had there not been an initial fuck-up with this order, I wouldn't think twice about it, but now, I think it's bullshit and I want them to cover it as it's all their fault.
  9. Weezer - Velouria Built To Spill - Free Bird Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't Shit Suicide Machines - I Don't Wanna Hear It Me First And The Gimme Gimmes - Country Road The Get Up Kids - Burned Bridges (Harvest Of Maturity)
  10. I remember skipping their set to walk across the street and buy Gatorade from that gas station. Talk about one of the worst decisions of my life. Dillinger with Sean Ingram was SO sick that night, though -- and so was that beatboxer before them!
  11. Got my copy of Set Your Goals - Mutiny! on clear/brown splatter from the Relapse e-store thanks to a tip from someone on here. Thanks, whoever you are! Also, does anyone know the pressing info for this record?
  12. Weatherbox - American Art Dinosaur Jr - Beyond Minus The Bear - Planet Of Ice Paul Baribeau - Grand Ledge A Wilhelm Scream - Career Suicide Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light Thrice - The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II
  13. http://www.merchlackey.com/noknife/ It'll cost you $15.32 total if you get media mail shipping (like I did). My copy isn't here yet, though, so I don't know if it's an import (which I'm guessing so) or if Better Looking put it out (which I don't think they did, but I could be wrong). EDIT: After a little investigation, it turns out RFR! was released on vinyl by Day After Records in the Czech Republic.
  14. Question: Was it hard at all to get the rights to put this out? I know Pluto is part of East West (which is part of Warner Bros.) now, so I didn't know if there were any more hoops to jump through...
  15. The Stereo Jawbreaker Refused At The Drive-In Mineral Discount Quicksand Rival Schools I'd also like to see this thread moved to the "Everything Else" forum.
  16. I've had that "Automatons" LP in my shopping cart over there for almost a month, just waiting till I have some free money to spend on it. I did pick up Drunk On The Moon LP via Interpunk after this thread started, and also just ordered Riot For Romance! LP and the Nine Days Wonder split LP, too.
  17. That would be incredible. I love the shit out of that movie and its soundtrack.
  18. This could be moved to the other forum, probably...
  19. Ugh, not at all. Modest Mouse has turned into a jam band and their fanbase is all hippies. It was painful.
