  1. This is solely a new leader who is questioned in his own country trying to posture to show them he's a strong leader. His military, while large, is a joke. There aren't even enough weapons to go around. They don't have fuel for their planes or tanks. China will not back them because it will mean the loss of American business. The only threat would be the artillery aimed to hit Seoul, which could be hit early, but the retaliation would be swift and brutal and North Korea would be emasculated in a heartbeat. When the military is exposed as a joke, the leadership will be humiliated and the entire government will be exposed for the sham that it is and has been. I wouldn't get too worried.
  2. I really wish the Android version had friend play. Oh well.
  3. So should I be disappointed that my order got messed up and payment never went through, or did I dodge buying a crappy release?
  4. Two threads is idiocy. In which thread do I compare the show to the comics? If I put it in the show thread, the non-readers will bitch. If I put it in the comics thread, the non-watchers will bitch (if there are any). Do we make a third topic for comparisons?
  5. For those who apparently live under a rock or just didn't pay attention... What's the cliffnotes of this story?
  6. Yea, I'm going to hold out til I absolutely have to change, then I'll go where the masses go.
  7. I've been reading QC for a few years now. XKCD is fantastic. I also read Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal but it's hit or miss.
  8. I hope Oliver is tamer than his bit character. I like him in small doses, but a whole show of him can get irritating I'd imagine. And I'd be interested to see how he does on interviews? My favorite Stewart interviews are serious ones because he knows his shit.
  9. Pissed. I read hundreds of economic and political articles a day on this. Pissed is an overstatement.. disappointed fits. I'll survive, but I don't like changing things up and have used Google Reader for a long time now.
  10. Dumbness all around. Anyone with a serious understanding of macro should know we're not in a position for austerity... see: UK. But hey, inflation is right around the corner! Like it's been for the last 5 years apparently. It drives me crazy how poorly-informed people bite on the economic lies that are spouted out all over.
  11. I met him once in Albany when he was doing that solo-ish tour with Kevin Devine. Anytime I meet a celebrity of some caliber, I just kinda give them a minute of appreciation and let them be because I always felt it'd be annoying to try to chit-chat with people you don't know, so I didn't want to bug them. But that's because I hate small talk and assume that everyone else hates small talk because everyone should. I'm a fairly quiet person unless I get going on a real topic because I just don't like talking about unimportant things. Can you believe I'm a teacher?
  12. I've said this a few times over the years and people say I'm dumb, Jesse's lyrics are where it's at and blahblahblah. Fuck that. Welcome to Bangkok is EASILY their best song. I blast it at full volume every time it comes on. When it starts rocking, it's really rocking.
  13. How widespread is Family Video? It's a chain that sprung up around here post Blockbuster decline and they advertise that they're the only chain in the market that's actually growing. I know a lot of people who stop there weekly to rent, and it's really cheap.
  14. I was dating a girl shortly after high school who was from a very religious family, and she asked me how I could enjoy life without believing in god, or something similar to that. She was asking it like she felt my life was lacking something because I didn't believe in an afterlife. My response was that by not hoping for some fantasy land after I die, I can fully appreciate and enjoy what life I know I have on this earth. If somehow I'm wrong, great. I'd like to think that god, if one exists, will judge me a pretty good person and give me a good afterlife anyway. If he doesn't, simply because I didn't attribute everything I experienced to him and thank him for it, then he's a petty asshole and fuck him; I don't want his afterlife.
  15. Hmm I have my mom's OG copy, but I don't know if I care to sell it to him.
  16. That's what I would do if I had appropriate shelving. I really, really need to build some bookcases but I don't have time or energy to do it right.
  17. This game is ruining my real life, and I've only had it for 2 and a half days. The donuts thing is pissing me off. I accidentally tapped around too much and used a few to speed something dumb up, and then I bought a Homer Buddha not really knowing what it was. I'm guessing these are finite in the game unless you actually buy them with real $$? Or can you get infinite amounts, just very painfully slowly through game progression?
  18. Just (as in 2 minutes ago) downloaded the game, but I'm on android.
  19. I got the package for the shirt that I still haven't worn, and I have absolutely no idea what to do with the chinese food container. Might be the dumbest (but still kinda funny) package item I've seen a band throw in.
  20. The one assistant coach we have for the girls' high school hockey team I coach told me that yesterday her little sister texted her and was like, "I didn't want to ask them because I'm embarrassed, but why are all these people walking around with dirt on their foreheads?" I thought that was awesome. 18 years old and this girl has apparently never encountered Ash Wednesday before. I find it all stupid, though. Baptized some sort of Protestant, can't even remember which (Baptist?), then "welcomed" into Catholicism at a young age, and I was done with it around 14 and very, very anti-religion when I hit ~20. Now I just don't understand how people believe in the stories, but I'm less combative about it.
  21. Also, I have a jean vest (used to be jacket, but who needs sleeves?) that I love rocking just to be an ass. It's always great on a nice fall day when it's cool-but-not-cold over a flannel or cowboy shirt.
  22. I used to love Bullhead jeans from Pac Sun, but have been buying Levi's ... I wanna say 504s for a while now. Are those the normal-ish not-too-skinny-but-not-baggy jeans? Demin prices went up lately so in the last few years you can really, really notice a difference in the thickness of jeans and it sucks. At least cheap jeans, because I'm certainly not spending more than $40 on a pair of jeans.
  23. I started Cormac McCarthy's "Cities of the Plain" today and got a decent chunk into it. It's flowing faster than I remember his last few books I read going, but it hasn't really fallen into the plot yet.
