  1. - One of my players was taken off the ice on a stretcher this afternoon. She was skating up ice with the puck and the other player was sort of next to her, maybe half a step behind, and tried to lean into her. She hit her slightly from behind and she spun face-first to the boards and hit at an awkward distance where when her knees hit the ice, her head and shoulders were about a foot and a half up the boards and she just crumpled to the ice. She said she couldn't feel or move her legs. + Shortly after she could feel tingling, which is better than nothing, and by the time the ambulance took her away, she could lightly wiggle her toes. + I've personally been through this nearly-exact same thing and I'm confident she'll be ok, but it's scary. Hopefully like me she was just jolted and shocked and everything will come back quickly.
  2. This is my life motto. I do not at all believe in karma or anything spiritual, but I believe in the future. I played sports all my life, went to school (obviously), and got help from a lot of people who had a huge impact on my life. I had a family friend help me out a ton with college and gift me a semester abroad. With all that, I've become a teacher, I coach all year round in 3 sports, and I talk to young people to help them through anything they need. I hope to inspire them, even if it's just one person, to create something great, to become better, to learn something new, or just to pay it forward themselves. Just think if more people took on a life mission like this...
  3. Isn't this the album that they blew up with? Does FOB still not have a lot of fanboys/girls? I haven't paid attention to how quickly albums have been flying off shelves lately, maybe I can meander around and still get one.
  4. Strike Anywhere or Rise Against come to mind.
  5. Make sure you don't eat before bed or ideally drink too much liquid before bed. I hear that helps, and when I avoid it, I'm less tossy-turny in bed, so I'm a believer.
  6. Wow, this thread blew up. I was reading the first couple pages when it was 3 pages long, by the time I clicked to page 3 it was on page 6, so I gave up. I come back to pg 10. I'm going to try to get this, but won't be really upset if I don't.
  7. I like one of the duets, I can't think of the other at the moment. I think my favorite T-Swift jam is the song "Speak Now".
  8. Treacherous is my favorite on the album. Stay is a fun little diddy. And whatever the closing track is called is great, too. Begin Again?
  9. The fist video is so awkward. The screamer dude has nothing to do because he has no actual singing talent and they need Dallas to do the harmonic portions.
  10. Wait, you were gone? I don't pay much attention I guess.
  11. Haven't hung it. I'm in the process of taking down shitty wall-paper so nothing is getting put up. If I remember I'll unroll it and snap a pic.
  12. My aunt got me a record by some guy named Jesse Dee from Boston. I've only listened to two tracks off it... it's kind of like if Nate from the Format / .fun rocked out a little harder or something.
  13. Haha the girls hockey team I coach bought me a huuuuuuge poster and gave it to me at our Christmas party.
  14. I just listened to my "Save the World..." and loved it. I definitely need to get this one too.
  15. I know. I know this is the right option (assuming I get it) but I'm really unhappy that it's 6 months of probation meaning no days off or flexibility. Right now and for the last 3 years, coaching has been my life. The team I'm a part of this year is set to win states and go to nationals and I would miss a lot of games, the last tournament, states, and nationals if I got this. The job is Tues-Sat and a mix between 8-4 (which is fine) and 1-9 (which ruins all hockey on those days). I'm having a hard time justifying giving up an extra 20 grand for coaching.
  16. Congrats on the new job! I've been teaching part time for 3 years now (subbed a year before that, too). It kinda sucks, especially in today's environment, not having a full-time job, so I interviewed with my town Parks & Rec department for full-time. These jobs are crazy hard to get, and I've been part time there for 6 years or so. They are passing their choice to the Town Board and I should hear Monday if it's my name they chose. I'm kinda nervous, not knowing if I should abandon teaching or not to take this if they did.
  17. Ugh, you got me so excited with FWYK. I LOVE that album. I might get these two if they aren't a whole lot of work, but I'd stab someone for FWYK.
  18. I don't like Lucic, but if he were on my team I'd love him. He's just a hard-nosed player. Marchand is a fucking dick and a scumbag player. He needs his face put through the glass.
  19. Merle will definitely be around, in the teaser immediately after the episode someone runs up to Rick and goes "what is HE doing here?!" That's gotta be Merle.
  20. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/12/03/sources-significant-progress-made-towards-ending-nhl-lockout/ More optimism?
  21. http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2012/11/why-raises-walmart-workers-are-good-everyone "Chances are you missed this particular bargain on Black Friday: Agree to spend 15 cents more on every shopping trip, and Walmart, Target, and other large retailers will agree to pay their workers at least $25,000 a year. Big box retailers aren't actually offering that deal, but a new study by the liberal think tank Demos argues that it would be a great bargain for us all if they did. Increasing the average wage at large retailers from $21,000 to $25,000 would probably cost you less than $20 a year at the register yet lift some 1.5 million people out of poverty (including your cashier), create 100,000 new jobs, and boost GDP by some $13.5 billion. "
  22. I take my reading seriously. (Not really, but I've been busy lately.) For my brainless moments, I've got World War Z going. For my less-brainless moments, I have Cormac McCarthy's The Crossing going. I love McCarthy novels, and I'm flying through this one. I've been reading random chapters of Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, especially the chapter on Carter-Reagan-Bush, because that's a pivotal moment in our recent history and the economic situation(s) that arose from that period. And because I'm a nerd, I'm reading Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. It's painfully slow reading because a) it's old which is shown in language as well as ideas he writes in baby-steps, taking forever to drag out a point c) I know the overall theory pretty well so I'm waiting for familiar topics which just makes me impatient. I recently read James Joyce's Dubliners and want to read Ulysses after I finish up probably the McCarthy book (although there's a third book in that trilogy that I may read first). I meant to read Cloud Atlas before the movie came out, but I dunno... I just can't get into it. I also keep meaning to read One Flew Over The Cookoo's Nest but don't ever get to it. After Wealth of Nations, I'm reading Keynes' General Theory.
