  1. This entire trend of selling records on Instagram can go get fucked
  2. Only "184" or "183" is inscribed in the matrix on each disc?
  3. A lot of jazz records were originally pressed on colored vinyl. I'd personally have been all over that blue KoB... If it was the upcoming MoFi release. I can't reccomend digitally sourced vinyl though. I'm really excited for the nirvana announcement. I'd be so stoked If it were a colored version of the In Utero 3LP and I'd snap that up in a heartbeat. But in all likelihood its probably just another pressing of Bleach.
  4. We spoke about this previously a bit closer to when it happened, It actually was #1, or at least half of it... I didn't quite understand the situation either but he didn't just press these up without the rights. He complied with the wishes expressed to him after the singer passed away. I can't speak as to the legality of selling the TP, or the legality of the band/label basically ripping up the contract after he already started the production on this. I'm positive that he lost a lot more money on this than whatever he made off of selling a TP. I get you guys have a strong distrust, but some of you are looking waaaay too hard into this trying to catch him doing something completely malicious or illegal. It sounds to me like he did exactly what a lot of you wish he would do - respect the wishes of the content creators regardless of whatever had been legally agreed upon, and in this case, even after hundreds or even thousands of dollars have already been spent on the production.
  5. Anyone on the fence about this - a good DAC can do really great things for your system, even a modestly priced one. If you can drop a bill, you'll be pretty pleased. Just one thing to be cautious of. If you are using a PC and streaming the audio to your DAC via usb, there is a good chance you are actually not getting bit-perfect output. Windows actually constantly resamples audio, adding all sorts of extra processing and mixing of audio streams, meaning the native data is not actually getting sent to the DAC, and possibly not even at its native bit depth and sample rate. You certainly aren't getting the best performance out of your gear in this situation. There are a few ways to go about configuring this, but it's pretty dependent on both drivers and playback software. As much as I love and swear by the orange cone, VLC actually does not support bit perfect playback. I've since switched to Foobar 2000 for when I want to play back audio, since it can actually be configured for bit-perfect playback. Here's a simple test to see if you're configured properly. You know that sound your computer plays when you connect or disconnect a USB device like an iPhone or a flash drive? Without playing any music, connect something and make the sound happen. That's good. Now, play something pretty soft that you would certainly hear the sound over. While that song is playing, now connect a device. Hear the sound AND the music? That's pretty bad. Windows is mixing and resampling your audio. Hope this helps, hopefully in the future windows will change how it handles audio. With native support for FLAC in windows 10, things are looking up for the future.
  6. I can't speak from personal experience but I've heard great things about the novus for CD/LD repair, which would generally require very fine polishing. That stuff should definitely do the trick for your dustcover.
  7. This is really common even on LP sets back from the 50's. Just how it was done. That said, there are a lot of fakes of this out there, all of them coming out of Europe. Was it cheap? That's a major red flag. If you could post pictures + a detailed description of the matrix number, that's the only way we can really tell you anything of it's provenance.
  8. Album sets like this never came sealed. Ever. They did come packed with cardboard protectors sometimes but that's about it. Really nothing special about this, in all honesty you'll be lucky if you can give it away. This is the kind of thing record collectors who feel really bad about throwing out vintage records end up keeping out of pity, or trying to give to someone else who will similarly either throw it out of hang onto it out of pity.
  9. I loved part 1 a bit more than part 2 but both were rad as hell. I'll be picking this up for sure. I dig the concept.
  10. I kindof recently scored a Nakamichi 2 head for $10. I honestly never use it but I figured it's the only chance I'll ever get to own a Nak without breaking the bank. It's a very barebones deck from the mid-80's, probably bottom of the line. I will say that regardless of being a BOTL two head deck, this Nak does produce the best sound I've ever heard from a cassette deck, even some costing many times more. Not good, mind you, but. Well. Good for cassette. No idea about how well it records. if you were gonna do that, I would either say, get a 3 head Nak if you want best results, but I would also say "who cares", it's a cassette.
  11. I had no idea it was re-released. I'm reading up a bit on it now actually, that's pretty damn cool. Every now and then I'll occasionally remember this game (usually barely even remember what it's called) and I'll mention it, and nobody ever has any recollection of the game or knows anything about it. I barely remember anything beyond time travel and the fact that I reaaallly liked it. I'm going to have to try and pick up a copy on eBay. I didn't actually have a playstation back in the day so all of my memories of those games stem from my experiences with other peoples' systems. But I got a 60gb PS3 when blu-rays became a thing... backwards compatibility for the win, now I get to slowly re-experience all the great games I briefly played ages ago. I'd love this too, wish it could happen. Not saying it would be impossible, but.... really damn close to it if your pockets aren't deep. You'd essentially have to license each track for inclusion on a comp. And then license the use of the THPS name and assets, etc. all to make a mediocre sounding record which would never have any chance of breaking even. And being that these would be comprised of, and I hate to use this term, "real" music, I doubt any of the existing VGM bootleggers would be willing to touch a project like that unofficially. All in all not worth it when all the tracks (at least from the first game) are available on vinyl already as part of albums by great bands full of other great songs.
  12. Random af, I haven't played a silent hill game in 10+ years but I remember around the time of silent hill 2 there was this badass game I played on the ps2 called Shadow of Destiny. Seems obscure. Anyone else here ever play that? Was it as awesome as I'm remembering?
  13. Can you feel the sunshine? Does it brighten up your day?
  14. So whose palms do we have to grease to get a 7" of the DK Rap b/w Jungle Japes
  15. Not shitting on his release. I supported it even if I wasn't totally a fan, and I backed the kickstarter. The things I've mentioned are simply a fair criticism of the approach that was taken to that project. It just strikes me as odd to see people complain that people will buy anything, and cite orchestrated video game scores and officially-sanctioned cover band tributes to cartoons as bad ideas in comparison to what would have been a $20 LP of tinkly midi renditions of emo tunes. Like I said, a lot of people probably don't care if it doesn't have any of the offending lyrics. Look no further than the fact that Kids Bop has proliferated in the children's music market, what are there, like 20-something volumes by now? Lots of parents really don't care if their kid is singing along to a song titled "N****z in Paris" or a song where they're innocuously blurring over the line "whatup, I got a big cock" to make it toddler-palatable. Personally, I'm not too crazy about the idea. It's okay if I'm the only one who's weirded out by that, it wouldn't be the first unpopular opinion I've had. But even I had to wait till I was 10 before I got my first Eminem CD. We're all just here to share opinions, all of us can't agree on everything. Doesn't bother me what anyone else gets, and I don't judge. I'm just saying I'd sooner get my kid "Rockabye Baby: Milli Vanilli" than "Rockabye Baby: Cannibal Corpse" agua, you're cool and one day you will get that red copy of TDAG. For retail too.
  16. Yes, out of 50+ releases you've managed to find two of the outliers in the collection. Nice.Note how I said "for the most part" There's a Metallica one too, for what it's worth.
  17. Yeah I feel you. One of the aspects of parenthood I'm looking forward to (not anytime soon, knock on wood) is getting to watch my kids discover their musical tastes, enjoying music and creating music. They're gonna inherit one hell of a record collection. Don't get me wrong, I love the lord savior and patron saint of VC, Jesse Lacey, just as much as the rest of us, I just don't personally think I would choose to lull my kid to sleep with Limousine or Noro. The Rockabye Baby series, for the most part, tends to lean towards artists and songs which overall exude a bit less negativity and darkness. I can see how many people might not care granted the lyrics aren't present, they're just harmless melodies, and would love to share those favorites with their kid, or keep themselves entertained during the stresses of parenting. If it were perhaps half the price, or featured recordings of actual instruments, I could have seen that going well over it's target. And I'd have backed it a little harder than I did, just to be supportive even if I personally would never use it as intended. it just eluded the interest of a lot of people for the reasons I stated above. Too much going against it rather than for it. I'm glad you were able to offer a response a bit more thoughtful and conducive to discussion than "shut up."
  18. It's cool supporting members here who are creative too, but seriously. I can't believe people were actually excited for that. 1. $20 LP of Casio keyboard xylophones 2. does your kid really need to hear Brand New songs? Doesn't that strike anyone else as a little weird to lull your child to sleep with soothing renditions of songs about death and despair? There's not a single positive song in their catalog, let kids be kids before they have to turn into cynical, miserable man-children. Listen to the itsy bitsy spider for 20 minutes or some shit, or any of the Rockabye Baby sets, which are well produced and feature equally enjoyable melodies derived from songs which may be a bit more suitable for the task. Neat idea. Poor execution. Didn't get funded. I can't believe anyone would hold that concept in a higher regard than this project.
  19. . True, if I opened a dispute it really could go either way. To be honest I may just cut my loss of whatever it would cost to ship it just so I can get it out of here, I really don't want to think about what might be brown and stuck to the back of the CD case.
  20. Okay, here's one I literally just sent out to a discogs seller. The order was for a cd and a record. Name redacted because I don't want to shitlist the seller here, and this is all easily avoidable stuff that he maybe can learn from in the future and become a more effective seller. That said, am I out of line for not wanting to accept or support this quality of service? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
  21. New MoFi > old MoFi. I can't really think of any of their older releases which are worth owning aside from a collectibility. Story goes that the owner had major hearing damage and so, they took time to source good tapes and had top notch engineers with top notch equipment... Only to jack up the EQ in very unsubtle and unnatural ways. Physically, they were some of the best pressings ever made - that JVC vinyl they used in Japan can't be used any longer due to environmental concerns. Very quiet surfaces. New era MoFi under new ownership, the LPs have been consistently excellent since. You can't really go wrong with any of the main label titles they've put out within the past 5 years or so. I would avoid the silver label stuff. The newly released Brothers In Arms should be the definitive vinyl release of that album, but you guys do know the master is a 16/44.1 DAT, right? I'm personally sticking with FLAC for that one. I'm sure their release will be as good as it could be though.
  22. In all seriousness they can be of value, especially if any of those sides were unissued or alternate takes. That said, diamond disc collectors are a niche within a niche within a niche... good luck finding the right buyer.
  23. That isn't their only option but 99% of the time it is the option that fits best within their business interests due to the legalities surrounding these recordings.I'm really oversimplifying this a hell of a lot, but If nintendo were to grant the album rights to these songs to another label as they have done with commercially available soundtracks in the past (Mother as a prime example) they are no longer the entity which may exercise any control over if/how these songs are distributed for sale or licensed for commercial distribution. It's what makes this album even a possibility for licensing purposes. It's similar reasons why the artwork can't be changed, etc. this was an album which already exists and it's being treated as such by the company who owns it, regardless of the music's video game origins (even side D) You'll notice that Nintendo hasn't produced a commercially available soundtrack in years. Often their CDs have been given away with games, nintendo power subscriptions, yogurt, whatever. The most obvious solution would be for them to form their own label - this would grant them the protection and control over their recordings they require, but that would make too much sense.
