  1. Not everyone is one the same two-year phone cycle. Apple create demand by putting out products annually at a price point that is relatively affordable. And while they make some money on iTunes Apple makes the majority of profit on hardware. Consoles don't generate profit the same way. Typically they are sold at a loss in the initial years and make up money on software, internal developers and royalties from third parties. For them having a long time between hardware cycles is a benefit, the inverse is true of Apple.
  2. Of course they didn't know. If I had a dollar for everytime someone asked me if Vermont was in Canada, I'd have a lot of dollars. And that is our own country! Generally, people don't know shit.
  3. That was a pretty good read. Thanks for the post. Agreed! Thanks! I don't really have any beef with the financial aspect of it. Awareness and acquisition is expensive for everyone. Large companies spend billions on it for a reason. The idea that non-profits should or could do it for cheaper doesn't hold much water for me. Same with the argument that they shouldn't get paid a decent salary while doing so. The military arguments are much more compelling. The situation in Dafur was clearly exacerbated, to put it lightly, by US arming the Sudanese as way to counter Marxists in Ethiopia and Libya. That kind of short-term involvement in African powder kegs is asking for trouble. Uganda is theoretically the same, it's just so unstable right now. My bigger picture outlook: Things that get people thinking beyond themselves about more philanthropic efforts is a positive. This particular not-for-profit may be a less than ideal starting point, but it's better than no starting point.
  4. I am reading that they are doing a print in addition to the vinyl. Not that it comes with one. I've read the same. They will release a new (limited) edition print of a Tyler Stout Drive Poster. At the same time they will ALSO release the vinyl with the Stout artwork for the cover. The vinyl will be less limited, or at least that is the assumption I'm making since they explicitly said the poster would be limited. I imagine they would have done the same for the vinyl if it were true.
  5. This shit seems to have hit critical mass today. It'll be interesting to see what happens moving forward. It was a well-executed idea, I hope it works.
  6. Discogs has 9/16 and 9/17, shipping from Europe though.
  7. It's not coming out until June so I'm guessing we'll see a little break between now and any actionable news. This was probably posted by there is a new poster that will be released with the vinyl. It reads like a separate purchase but for those that missed out maybe you'll get another shot.
  8. My current favorite. The Brewery was destroyed in Hurricane Irene but the cannery is open and makes one beer. Heady Topper Double IPA. Currently #7 on Beer Advocate top 100 beers! Go Vermont.
  9. The good news is that Maniac was $20. The bad news is that it was limited to 500 copies. However, this film was seen by a wider audience so I imagine the quantity may scale up accordingly. Last time around the also did random color inserts (175 qty.). At least thats what I read here: http://blog.mondotees.com/2011/10/03/maniac-soundtrack-lp-coming-tomorrow/
  10. To quote the wise-beyond-her-years Maybe Funke: "Well, that’s like comparing apples and some fruit nobody’s ever heard of." I'm not trying to stick up for the show per se, since I'm not in love with it but they killed Dale for a specific purpose. The groups moral compass and the character with, perhaps, the most empathy is dead. Rick loses a potential moral ally and a "good angel" of sorts to counter-balance the other side of the spectrum. So his death could be the catalyst for the group to ethically unravel. Or unravel at a faster clip. T-Dogg, at this point, isn't a character of consequence. So love him, hate him, or most likely, don't care about him, killing him doesn't do a whole lot for the show. I get being upset because Dale does or creates the opportunity for awesome shit in the comic. But as a character on the show, I got no problem with his dying.
  11. thanks.... Now in 3rd place. I appreciate any help. It's only one click. I gave you one click. Probably not the one you were hoping for.
  12. what is this; A Song of Ice and Fire?! I think it adds tension. Otherwise it's like Sopranos. Oh hey, this new guy must be the character they kill at the end of the season! Plus. I didn't care for Dale.
  13. You can't really blame the writer. You can't kill off a notable character without getting the blessing from the executive producers, including, in this case, the writer of the comics. Here is an interview comic creator about tonight's episode. Sounds like the end of the episode was planned for a while: http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/03/05/walking-dead-robert-kirkman/ I'm all for killing Dale. Best part of a weak episode. To me it is important to know that main characters, likable or not, could die at any time.
  14. Stout is doing the packaging? This better not be limited to anything less than 1,000 otherwise, good luck to everyone! Either way, I'll be trying for this version instead of the Invada release. Ugh. Hope it isn't too hard to get. I'm pretty pumped for this release. J
  15. Biggest problem you'll have with a cheap monitor is lack of richness, especially in blacks. So long as you know the difference between a build black and 100% black you'll be fine. Honestly, I wouldn't sweat this. For most cheaper jobs if the client prints digital it doesn't matter. For spot color jobs just spec an ink from the book. For larger print jobs you'll do a press check. In 10 years as a designer I've never had a monitor really screw me. Just double check when In doubt.
  16. Just saw this via my RSS reader. Looks like a Walking Dead plot point for Season 2 was accidentally revealed on the AMC website. Oops. If your curious: http://warmingglow.uproxx.com/2012/03/amc-accidentally-reveals-major-walking-dead-spoiler-on-their-website
  17. Pretty much agree on all counts. I've always hated the 5 games series. Seems like a move to boost revenue without much practical impact on the game. Last year we would have added Boston and Atlanta, which for those markets, would have been cool I guess. But fuck man. Baseball playoffs are already forever.
  18. I'm glad you rescued that cat. Fuck that lady.
  19. I'd say your probably right, but weren't they less than 10 games out at the end of last year? Their biggest issue is that it isn't necessarily young guys about to development, just a collection of dudes who could theoretically "have a year".
  20. The Oscars is such an insular circle-jerk I don't even understand how to get excited about it. A self-serious academy selects the best films from a pool of projects that were mostly greenlit with the express purpose of winning awards.
  21. Stephen Strasburg Gio Gonzalez Jordan Zimmermann Edwin Jackson John Lannan That's a projection, but is pretty legit considering where they were a little bit ago. Starting 9 is a little spotty but if Espinosa can come around this year and Werth and LaRoche can put a decent year together they can certainly compete. I'd say they could be in the Wildcard hunt for sure.
  22. I just searched Popsike and sorted by date and checked the two latest auctions. For every $80-100 copy of this, there seems to be a $35 - $40 counterpart. Give or take. To clarify, can you get more than $50 for it? Definitely maybe. Would I pay that much. Probably not. Just throwing my range out there, not THE range.
  23. Kind of was a fakeout! I thought the episode last night was good, though fuck Andrea. Fuck Lori too I guess. Sort of fuck most of the characters really. Except T-Dog, that guy is legit.
  24. I read this as "I am expecting a lot for this." Let me know if that isn't the case. The two most recent on eBay were $45 and $30, Id consider that range.
