  1. Its nice to know the Scared of Chaka is playing again, but I'll hold a grudge against them until they come play Albuquerque.
  2. Sorry for threadjacking, but I have a copy of the Fugs-It crawled into my hand I'd like to get rid of (original, not reissue). PM me if you are interested. blupenguin, you should just list everything you could sell, I'm interested in lots of stuff from the 60s/70s. We need more of this kind of stuff on the board!
  3. Definitely agree, but I think I like Battle of Mice a little better.
  4. i'll try the moist cloth thing so this carbon fibre brush is not good for anything then? I have one and I don't like it at all. It never cleans the records that well and always creates static, but I do live in a very dry climate. It probably is better for brushing off dust before playing, not for a good cleaning of a dirty record.
  5. its the brush you are using, its dry. If you get a cloth and put a little anti-static record cleaner on the cloth, the problem should go away. Or just put a little water on it.
  6. How much for the 13th Floor Elevators shipped to Canada? Also what type of condition is the vinyl and jacket it in? Thanks! pm'd
  7. Oh yeah, check out the Zakary Thaks. They have an LP on Sundazed, and I think their song Bad Girl is on the Nuggets.
  8. I do have a copy of the Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th floor elevators lp (red vinyl on Get Back) that I'm willing to sell. I got into the garage stuff just like you, it was a little hard at first to find stuff and I made a lot of bad purchases. Here's some suggestions of good albums. After a while, you'll probably figure out that with garage and psych, there are a lot of really good songs by bands that have shitty albums. I think these albums are good more or less all the way through: The Seeds-s/t, and Web of Sound 13th Floor Elevators-Psychedelic sounds, and Easter Everywhere Shadows of Knight-Gloria, and Back Door Men Paul Revere and the Raiders-Midnight Ride The Music Machine-Turn On also, you should check out some comps, there are a lot of good ones out there, especially the garage punk unknowns series on Crypt Records, and I like the Friday Night at the Hideout LP on Norton Records. Two bands I love, are the Electric Prunes, and the Chocolate Watchband, but I wouldn't really recommend getting it on vinyl. You can still get the Prunes albums on vinyl reissues, but there are really only half good with a bunch of filler. I'd recommend getting the Lost Dreams CD and the Live in Stockholm '67 cd (you really have to here this!). The Watchband has a 2-disc discography that is awesome. You might be able to find boots of the original LPs, but the originals themselves cost $$$. You can also get some vinyl at sundazed.com, forcedexposure.com, and through the Norton Records paper catalog (they still don't have much online)
  9. The majors still don't seem to get it. Maybe there is a market for new, expensive copies of Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, and other shit that fills up dollar bins, by why waste the resources and time rereleasing albums that just about any used record store has? I'm astounded every time I get updates from elusivedisc.com about new pressings from Abba, Def Leppard, the Police, Frampton Comes Alive and on and on...
  10. Phoenix and Tempe are your best bet, there is nothing else between San Antonio and LA.
  11. A couple points: Yes, people can survive on 1 or 2 dollars a day in many countries, but the quality of that survival is pretty equivalent to being homeless here and eating at a shelter. Food is cheaper in some developing countries, and in others it isn't. Food is really the only good that somewhat changes price based on what people earn. Services like electricity, water, and telephone are either more expensive or cost the same as they do in the U.S. Buying new clothes is typically more expensive than buying them here, but a lot of the extremely poor in developing countries can get some type of clothing that is usually shipped in bulk from the developed world. Luxury items, like books, music, electronics, etc that we take for granted as being fairly affordable are really only for the small middle classes and the elite in developing countries because they are outrageously prices. Gas usually costs more in many developing countries than it does in the US. If people couldn't survive on 2 dollars a day, then they would just be dropping dead, but their lives are not pleasant and I don't think anyone here who met someone who lived on such a measly paycheck would suggest that their "survival" was in any way equivalent to ours. Many people in developing countries can slightly improve their quality of lives by stealing utilities, or engage in pirating or other informal work to get by, but this creates all kinds of other problems for the country. Outsourcing jobs to developing countries DOES NOT lead to industrialization. Jobs have been outsourced for decades, but in many developing countries it has done absolutely nothing. Why? because many jobs that are outsourced require only unskilled labor. Even when skilled labor is necessary, the companies doing the outsourcing usually control the transfer of technology and knowledge that would be required to actually encourage industrialization.
  12. If anyone is interested in reading an insightful article on what this war is about, check out this link: http://seansrussiablog.org/2008/08/11/saakashvillis-war/ The stuff I've seen from the major news media has been complete bullshit so far. Quote from the post: "This war is about Georgia’s self-determination; a self-determination which apparently is rooted in denying the Ossetians theirs."
  13. good stuff! I wish someone would put out an instil discography...
  14. Does anyone know why some 2LP records made in the 70s have one record with side 1 and side 4 on it, and the other with sides 2 and 3? This annoys me to no end, and I can't make any sense of it. It doesn't seem to be that common, but I've found it on these records: Miles Davis-Live Evil Allman Brothers-Live at Fillmore East Who-Quadrophenia Who thought this was a good idea??
  15. Children of the Grave, but pretty much all of Master of Reality of flawless. You should spend next weekend listening to all the Dio stuff!
  16. I have a copy of SA-Chorus of One on grey, 1st press. pm me if you are interested
  17. I know I have Youth of Today-Can't Close My Eyes on cassette, CIV-set your goals, and maybe more, I can't remember. PM if you are interested.
  18. I guess, but the manufacturing costs were a choice by the band/label and could be avoided. I like to buy a lot music, buying 20-25 dollar records just because of artwork and packaging really takes away from enjoying more music. I'm just venting though, maybe I'm in the minority?
  19. sadly, I don't think that will ever happen. This is a serious question, I don't mean to be sarcastic, but did anyone like Inside Out before RATM?
  20. Even if Robotic Empire has these, why so expensive? I just want to listen to this in vinyl! I may have to go with the CD if its more than $20...
  21. Here's a couple more: www.dustygroove.com - not sure its what you are into, mostly jazz, funk, soul, and some psych, garage, etc. www.elusivedisc.com - they have all kinds of styles, but more mainstream stuff. I have had great experiences with both places.
