ebay stuff isnt run out of here. So more than likely it was in a stack of stuff that was transferred to the ebay stuff, and just was never taken off the site apparently. So i cant ship it out of my house, where all the distro stuff ships out, because i dont have it anymore.

My wife and i pulled an all nighter. here is the result. we are about 1/10th of the way through now!
Hey remember that enjoytheride(?) dude who was complaining cause he put a release out limited to 300, and in order to ship 300 records, he had to hire a full staff and rent an office cause that was just too much work for one guy.
    yeah. screw that dude.

neither IVWT, or vinyl junkie are closing because no one bought records, and they went out of business. Both closed because of a change in life direction with the owners. Vinyl Junkie was doing better than ever, and making more than ever when the decision was made to close up shop.
I dont know the books for IVWT, but from what Brian has said, its not cause no one bought his records, its for other reasons.
dont let it scare you that places are closing when its by choice, and not by necessity.

    1. Just ask them. If you are a legit label, and are ordering multiple copies of things, many labels will give you wholesale prices. Unfortunately, over the last few years the scene has changed and lots of small startup labels already have "exclusive distribution" and stuff (which in my opinion is a pile of horseshit), which makes it hard for a small distro to deal directly with the label.
Alternatively you can can get the records wholesale through distributors. For small releases there are places like ebullition, ILD, no idea, deathwish. For more major label releases there are a slew of places like cobraside, redeye, super D.
    2. With labels it will usualy depend. You will need to order multiple copies of several items (no one is gonna give you wholesale price if you order one copy of 3 records. then you are just a consumer looking for a deal). Some places have limits, like at least 3 copies of each record, or 100$ minimum, etc.
With larger distribution places, they require you to set up an account with them and show you are a legit place, and some smaller/diy ones then have no minimum, and some of the major label ones may require you to buy $1000 a month or more.
    3. It doesnt. Generally limited/sought after stuff screws over a distro/store. Granted, the whole purpose of a record label is to sell records, and if they can do so without outside help, then i guess they are serving their purpose. And thats why its hard. No label wants to wholesale their LP for 7 bucks each, when they can sell all of them in presale for 12 bucks. Some places make deals. They are friends with a guy who runs this label, who is nice and wholesales them a limited color. or they are big enough where they can afford to go in on a pressing and have their own limited color. When i first started my distro labels always sent a few limited copies in with, cause they liked the idea of kids out there being surprised and finding limited editions in different places. Towards the end of the distro i was getting limited editions maybe 5% of the time, if that. Part of that is internet culture and other places ruining it. other distros got limited stuff and immediately ebayed it for big money instead of passing it on to a buyer. in other instances its that now a lot more labels are ran as a "business" to make money, and not as a diy labor of love so the label holds on to everything that can get them the max return. You will probably miss out on most all limited edition stuff until you grow bigger, and can get in on releases earlier, and show you are an honest distro and start to make some long lasting relationships with the labels you work with.

vinyljunkiedistro got a reaction from rudeboydh in selling your valuable records to stores
and this is the reason people complain about stores not having stuff they like.
Cause everyone know sees recod collecting as a hobby and pays so much attention and knows exactly what their records are worth, and expects to get popsike prices off them, and to make a profit from their records.
Stores will not give you what you would get on ebay. Otherwise, they would go out of busines real fast. A good store will give you a good price on it, and pay you 40-50% of what they would sell it for (there are shady stores out there who will try to pull a fast one and pretend they know know somethings rare, and offer you 2 dollars on a record they will sell for 200 bucks. Fuck those stores).
As a physical store owner, i have to say nothing annoyed me more than some kid bringing in his 4 month old records and demanding 2 grand for his collection of 50 records. cause he has done his popsike research and 3 years ago all these isis records were worth bank!
If you want ebay prices, go to ebay. deal with the hassle, do the extra work, and wait a week or two for your money. youll pocket more in the end.
If you want zero hassle and the cash in a couple minutes, thats when you take it to the store.
keep in mind also, record prices fluctuate like crazy, which is why unless you have a legit rare record, a store would be stupid to pay 100 dollars for a record that came out a few months ago. A high priced record like that might sit in the store for a few months, and by then a repress comes out, or the hype dies down, and now the store is left eating the cost on a shitty hyped up variant that 6 months ago sold for 100 dollars but now is worth 10.
a kid with disposable income that drops 100 dollars on a record 3 weeks before a repress is announced might rationalize "oh well, i got the record, lesson learned", but a store that does that repeatedly wont be a store for very long.

to the guy asking about the LPs. yes, when you are ordering all LPs (and double LPs) like you were, the 10 dollar shipping sounds about right.
    for the CDs.
yes it is set high for small packages. To be honest, i dont want to ship 2 CDs. thats $1.60 total, and im losing money on them as it is, and i hate shipping out small packages of 1 or 2 CDs or 7"s. Its just not worth it when the margin is already so low. So the opening shipping price is set high on purpose to discourage single orders and/or encourage adding a few more items to your cart.
i think the lowest shipping price is like 4.85 for a single item.
but you can get 10 7" for just a couple dollars more.
also, after the mailer, supplies, and the shipping (which exact postage is 3.19 on 2 CDs) that leaves less than a dollar you are overpaying for your 2 CDs @ 5.33. Complaining about overpaying on shipping by a buck when you are buying 2 CDs for 80 cents each is just AWESOME!

thank you. more records for the rest of the people who may appreciate them.
also, i pay someone to package and ship records 40 hours a week. when you run a business, and have to come up with hundreds of dollars a week just for shipping, then get back to me about charging exact postage.
if you dont think that EVERY business out there makes shipping prices "higher than they should be" to cover costs like supplies and shipping department payroll , than you are either 15 and dont know how the world works, or you are just very naive and never owned a business.
why do you think that distros like ebullition that have existed for decades set minimum order amounts.....so they dont have to waste their time packaging and shipping single 7" orders.
Or why do you think when you buy 1 item on ebay, its 4 bucks, but each item after that only adds a buck or two. shipping is always higher for 1 item than "postage cost", and buying multiple items is always cheaper per item. in almost EVERY mailorder business.
Packaging and shipping a package with 4 7"s takes just about the same amount of time, and money in supplies as shipping a single 7". Since the markup is about 1 dollar on a 7", that means that if everyone ordered 1 single 7" from me, then i would spend 8 hours and getting roughly 25-30 dollars of "profit", and at the end of the day i would have spent 70 dollars in payroll.
boy. look at me getting rich off you. im such a capitalist pig!
also, im not ashamed to say...if you only want to order 1 cheap cd/record. i dont want your business. im not desperate for money, nor am i desperate for orders, and id rather you bought that one record straight from the label or band and supported them anyway. or id rather you go to your local record store and support them. i dont want to take the place of a label/store/band.
the whole purpose a distro exists is so you can get a bunch of stuff all at once so you can save yourself the hassle of ordering from 15 different places.
that sentiment might sound rude i know, but id go out of business at this point (or would have to raise the prices on my product significantly) if i had to spend all day shipping out 80 cent CDs all by themselves.
    entitlement rules.
