  1. I love Lucero so damn much, but if all of the vocals on this record sound like this then I'm gonna have to pass. The filtering and doubled up vocals make Ben sound like a robot.
  2. Hostel 1 had too much bullshit exposition in te beginning; so much so- that once anything good haooened, it was overshadowed by the bullshit exposition
  3. Although Hostel was a pretty terrible franchise, I will continue to stand by Roth's work, I think he's still got a few good ones up his sleeve
  4. God goddamn it. Well executed season- with te slow parts being real slow, yet adding to the insane buildups. I am not happy with this outcome, not happy at all. God goddamn it.
  5. I've been there and it sucks. It sucks a lot, and for that I'm so terribly sorry for you. I know it sounds cliche, and you're gonna hear it over and over again, but it does get better. Actually, it can get a lot better and everything you thought was perfect can actually get better and more rewarding. Again, I know it sounds cheesy, but keep your head up man, you'll get through it.
  6. I don't see what the big deal about enjoying this, or any other 90s release. It's a record filled with catchy, well-written pop songs that happened to be the soundtracks to a lot of people's formative years. My dad still listened to his Beatles records, decades after there release. I'm not saying the Goo Goo Dolls are the Beatles, by any means; just wondering if a decade from now you'll only be listening to new, relevant and cool albums instead of ones you thoroughly enjoyed at one time. Please, by no means take this as an aggressive post toward you, because I promise you it wasn't meant to be said in a dickhead way, but it makes no sense why it's wrong to enjoy a pop record from the 90s, merely because someone really does consider it a great record.
  7. What We Do in the Shadows was fantastic. I think I already posted about it before, but I highly recommend a viewing.
  8. This is one of my top ten records, not for nostalgias sake, but for the sake of great pop songs
  9. Awful lyrics can make me instantly hate a song, especially if the music sounds passionate and the singer has the writing skills of a third grader. Also, complete abstraction in lyrics tends to bother me, just as it does in poetry. Like others have said, when it comes to metal it isn't that important at all; though incredible lyrics will turn a great metal/hardcore band into my favorite band. For example, I've loved American Nightmare since the first time I heard them, and after looking into Eisold's lyrics, I was blown away. In regards to rhyming in lyrical structure, I don't think it's uncreative by default, though I think it can be. I could be a bit biased on this, as my lyrics tend to rhyme.
  10. "It Follows" was such an incredible watch. I'm so stoked on all of these 80s style flicks that have been coming out over the last few years and the killer synth soundtracks associated with them.
  11. Watched The Lazarus Effect last night and it saddens me to say that it is the first Mark Duplass flim that I didn't enjoy. Even the great cast couldn't compete with the terrible plot, combined with cheeseball effects. I don't recommend.
  12. Have you seen True Romance? It's the flick he sold to fund Reservior Dogs.
  13. These records will do good things to your life John Moreland- In the Throes Jason Isbell- Southeastern Damien Rice- 9 Damien Jurardo- Caught in the Trees Gregory Alan Isakov- Rust Colored Stones Justin Vernon- Hazeltons and shameless self promotion... Ronnie Glenn Williams- Wichita
  14. Some books I'm curious about. Has anyone here read any of these: - Postal - Nameless - Secret Identities Also stoked to read The Sculptor (long, artistic graphic novel) and Abigail and the Snowman (cutsie 4 issue thingy)
  15. Just finished Y, you will not regret it. Looking to start Saga soon.
  16. There were some pretty great Batman collections throughout the 90s, Spawn was pretty kick-ass, and the X-Men had some pretty great arcs; so the 90s weren't such a terrible era for the industry. I was super involved in the X-Men/X-Force/etc crossover, "Fatal Attractions," that was epic for a kiddo, not to mention those awesome holograms on the covers.
  17. Went to Pitch Perfect 2 the other night, not as good as the first, but still a few good laughs
  18. Began re-reading 'The Grapes of Wrath,' because it will never ever get old to me
