kevtv Posted May 25, 2008 Share Posted May 25, 2008 In re-arranging my room, I need a different setup to store my records, since where they were is now against my baseboard, a bad idea for vinyl to be near heat. I want to get something that is longer than it is tall, like a 2-level bookshelf. I see the expedits on Ikea's website but it seems they can only go vertically. Can they be laid sideways? kevtv Posted May 25, 2008 Author Share Posted May 25, 2008 today i got the one that is pictured above and went a step beyond and got the legs to have it off the ground. they had one on display 4x2 with the legs, so i went with that. slymer, where did you put support brackets or did you not bother since its sideways? vinylme Posted May 25, 2008 Share Posted May 25, 2008 I used the support brackets on my 2 2x4 expedits because i live in california (where the ground moves) and both are pretty full. I dont like the idea of puting a expedit on its side simply for the fact that when they are assembled vertically the shelves have more support, the wood dowels at the sides and the center divides. but I have seen alot of people with them on their side. your just relying on the wood dowels to support the weight of your vinyl.
