Android (OS)

Did you have a specific model in mind? Android Central and Android Authority are the most trust worthy Android focused editorials on the web. I'd pick a device then hunt down review videos from both sites.

I personally have never used a Sony smartphone, but Sony is one hell of a hardware company. I'd imagine any of their devices running Android are killer.

Phone is working again. For now. So over it.

And as for Xperias, I've heard they're good but apparently they have a heat issue. I think this is because of the Snapdragon 810 processor. I heard this processor causes issues on some phomes, but on some it didn't.

But what Rambo has recommended is what I would recommend as well.

Alright, I'm 100% sold on the S7 Edge. In Power Saver mode with HEAVY usage I got down to about 60% over 5 hours of screen time, a 20 minute charge took it back up to 100%. I thought I was going to hate having an internal battery and was completely wrong.

Only gripe I have is that I lost all my Tasker profiles that I set up 2 devices ago. Don't really want to go through the hassle of setting them up again but honestly all I really needed it to do was turn my WiFi/Do Not Disturb modes on at certain times. Might just dig out a couple NFC tags and set those up again.

Damn dude, it sounds like a solid device then. I've been kind of leaning towards a GS7 because even though I mainly see the G5 as modular so I could repair them and stuff, I'll probably upgrade devices in about two to three years anyways. I just really hope T-Mobile one gets root. That's all I want and mainly what's holding me back. Also that whole Knox thing is annoying.

On a related note, I'm back to TouchWiz and God, I forgot how laggy it is compared to CM13.

Might go back to iOS. I just don't understand how damn laggy Android devices can be. It's ridiculous that I have to root and flash custom ROMs to remedy that. At first it was fun because of all of the bonus features, but I almost never use any features that custom ROMs provide. Mainly do it so the device can run smoothly. I was thinking of going with a Nexus device but I don't even like the Nexus devices. Not to mention I can't get them through my carrier, so I have to pay it in full.

No expandable storage is the biggest gripe I see so far, but I doubt I'll run out of 128 GB any time soon.

I don't know; I'm very conflicted.

I feel the complete opposite. iOS feels very clunky to me. You shouldn't feel like you need to utilize extra mods and features cooked into custom ROMs either. They're there if ya want 'em and that's one of the perks of being on team Android!

CM does a good job at replicating pure Android, unfortunately their stable builds are few and far between and nightlies are technically betas which come with their fair share of bugs. Stock vanilla Android is pretty damn great, I've ran slightly modified ROMs on my Nexus 7 (2013) and it's kicking ass. I'd be surprised if I can't get an addtioanl 3 years of steady use out of it.

I honestly feel like Samsung hasn't been on their game with TouchWiz until I got my hands on this new device. It felt laggy and bulky on my S3. I'm not sure what LG refers to their overlay as, but it was minimal on my G3. Probably the closest to vanilla Android I've ever felt on a stock device. I'd be willing to bet the G5 is much snappier and cleaner.

Bare in mind yoire using a somewhat older device at this point. I don't want to steer you down the road of kernel tinkering but if you're looking to smooth out general performance you could flash a cistom kernels and use Kernel Auditor to manipulate it. Also don't forget that Apple isn't without their flaws. They often gimp their own devices with general OS updates.

What it sounds like to me is that it's time for you to upgrade to a newer flagship device ;)

Had a brief moment of insanity. Still on team Android. ;) Did a lot of pros and cons and I have too much invested into Android with paid apps. It would be a hassle to leave it all behind.

I had even asked on Reddit and some people gave good answers, while others kind of seemed to insult my intelligence, which was a bit off-putting. But there's always people like that in both the Android and iOS community.

Back on track now. I've really taken a liking to the GS7 Edge. It's a beauty. The glass body probably makes this device feel incredibly premium and it looks beautiful as well. Also AMOLED is the way to go. I've seen outside tests of brightness and the LCD screens are laughable. Do not want. Probably not TOO bad, but it's a drawback.

Water resistant is a huge plus for me as well as I have gotten my phone wet a bit in the past when I'm shaving. Plus it's just an awesome feature.

Only thing that kills me currently is no root. Been thinking about trying to ask T-Mobile if they can possibly hook me up with an Exynos model, but I'm not sure if that's possible. Also curious on signal speeds with an International model here in the U.S.. Although T-Mobile is well-known for being a carrier that has root, so I'm kind of hoping something will happen soon.

Why do you need your phone while shaving?

Why not

But on a serious note, shaving is boring as shit, so I always either listen to podcasts or watch a video while I shave. More listening to it than watching, since I don't want to ruin my face, hah.

But I notice that I get my phone wet a bit more than I'd like. Luckily my Galaxy S5 is also water resistant, so I'm good. Will be glad to have that with the GS7/GS7 Edge.

Nah, still kickin' ass. Only have 2 complaints but their not necessarily specific to this device. If you stream music Power Saver Mode can prevent stuff from loading even after its been disabled. Toggling Airplane Mode off and on fixes that though. Also I don't see a way to program NFC tags to go into states like Power Saver and Do Not Disturb. I can probably accomplish this with Tasker but I don't wanna ha.

Ended up purchasing a Nexus 6P. I hate being tied down to a company, so I skipped the GS7 Edge even though I was a bit interested.

Also, I really want to try out the front facing speakers. I listen to a lot of music, so I'm excited to try it out. I went with a 64 GB Gold one. 128 GB is probably way too much for a normal person to use up. I have a 128 GB micro SD card and I've only used up about 12 GB and I have music on there that I never listen to. And I'm backing up all pictures to the Cloud now anyways. So I don't think I'll miss the micro SD.

Should arrive tomorrow, so I'm really excited. I couldn't deliver it to my PO BOX for some reason, so I had to send it to my home address. People have been stealing mail lately, so I'm a little nervous. Will have to watch out for the mail like a hawk on Tuesday.

You should be quite happy with it. I have a Nexus 5x and I'm really happy I made the switch from Samsung Galaxy

It ended up arriving today! Pretty satisfied so far. Beautiful phone.

I had to manually cut my micro SIM to a nano SIM and it seems to work just fine, but I have noticed apps like Spotify and Pocket Casts randomly stopping on me. Not sure what that's all about. Might have to end up ordering one from my carrier instead.

Nextel is a Mexican company, right? I'm pretty sure I've seen that on a couple signs when I'm over there.

But yeah, I'm just going to order one. Apparently I only have to pay for shipping, so that's super convenient. I really hope this ends up fixing these small issues, because I'm really loving this phone. And I get my phone case today. I've been babying this phone since yesterday because I'm scared to drop it, haha.

Are you using earbuds? Could be an issue with them, I'd try a different set first. I will say Pocket Cast has been pretty crappy since this last update. It'll straight up stop playing on all my Android devices for no reason.

Nah, I was using the speakers. It was messing with my data as well as I would browse and nothing would load sometimes. Ended up doing a wiping data from recovery and it seems like it did the trick. Phone is running great now. But I am going to end up buying an actual nano SIM. Someone mentioned that maybe it can support newer bands or something along those lines. And it's pretty cheap as well, so not much to lose, haha.
