Melodic punk

Recommended Posts

There is the Red Owls EP. I dig it.

One of my favorites of 2015. Punk rock baseball a la Masked Intruder

The Isotopes - Nuclear Strikezone

https://theisotopes.bandcamp.com/album/nuclear-strikezone

My wife interviewed this band. Singer is a nice dude.

Sic Waiting - Derailer

https://felonyrecords.bandcamp.com/album/derailer

Early 2015 release. Sucks Rodrigo is no longer in this band.

Atlas Losing Grip - Currents

https://creator-destructor.bandcamp.com/album/currents

Not as melodic as their past releases, but this still rocks. Great dudes.

Ma Jolie - Jetpack Mailman

https://majolie.bandcamp.com

Best release yet from these guys.

After The Fall - Dedication

https://bridge9.bandcamp.com/album/dedication

Underrated 2015 No Idea release. Reminiscent of Fifth Hour Hero

No Weather Talks - Undoing Defeat

https://noweathertalks.bandcamp.com

Red Scare hype

Success - Radio Recovery

https://www.punknews.org/bands/success

Underrated Fat Wreck band. All female. Greatest ladies.

Bad Cop/Bad Cop - Not Sorry

https://badcopbadcop.bandcamp.com

Theres also Strung Out, Good Riddance, Millencolin, Red City Radio yadda yadda yadda.

spraynard put a new record out.

also, aren't the guys in latterman back together under a new name? I forget what they're called, but hopefully they have something coming out soon.

So far so great. Dead Broke just announced an early '16 release now, as opposed to the initial 2015 date. I don't care, as long as this gets released. The niche that Matty Canino/Iron Chic now hold throne to is one of my favorites.

Oh and for 2016 be on the lookout for some personal friends of mine. New album out via It's Alive Records in February.

I'll follow Adam and It's Alive to the grave.

These guys are incredibly great.

Thanks for having the presence of mind to post about all of this. By the end of any given day, I'm spent, and can't roll through my mental back catalogue. I completely agree with all the recommendations.

I'm a dork and have all 2015 releases under a playlist on iTunes. Makes it easy for end of the year lists and to check back on stuff I recently purchased.

EDIT: Holy shit that was my 8,000th post! Whoa!

Someday I'll reach that point of organization. I think I'm afraid of being more put together regarding my record collection than I am my professional/home management. So until then I'll continue to float along hoping for still waters in both divisions. Organized chaos.

And sorry about the horrible formatting regarding quoted material and original. I gave up after ten minutes trying to make it happen on a kindle fire.

When I lived in New Paltz the house next door was having a party so they invited me over. Turned out it was a show and Nightmares for a Week were headlining. The cops showed up after three bands and I casually walked 20 feet to my porch.

That's my fun anecdote. Also it's weird to see After the Fall mentioned. They're local and I've seen them a dozen times. Had no idea they had any reach or were on Bridge 9. Good for them. I remember a Shai Hulud show where Matt Fox was like "Oh hey, the After the Fall guys are here. I gave your record to Revelation...and...uh...they didn't care. Sorry."

That's my other fun anecdote

Haha! What's funny is for years After The Fall was continually treated like that. I'm glad people have been changing their minds recently.

In this vein, Shinobu(https://shinobu.bandcamp.com/album/10-thermidor) put out an awesome album this year. If you like that, check out Worstward Ho, and Mike Hugeonor's other band, Hard Girls(who put out last year's best record).

Mike also played guitar/sang on Dan Andriano's latest solo album. I absolutely love everything about these guys.

Thanks a lot for all of your suggestions!

After The Fall - Yeah, these guys have really caught on in the melodic punk scene! They're hit or miss for me, unfortunately the latest one is a miss for me. I love their album "Fort Orange" though.

Atlas Losing Grip - Well, I loved their last album, not so much the new one. I'm having my fingers crossed for a new SS record though.

SUCCESS - Unfortunately, this had no appeal at all to me. Don't get the hype.

Shinobu - I listened to this album once or twice when it came out, but it didn't grab me. That Dan Andriano album that you mention is my fav album of the year though. Love Dan's music.

Bruce - love the anecdotes.

About keeping up - I'm the same, don't use iTunes, but I keep a folder with all 2015 releases (and did for 2013, 2014, etc) before I sort them into their regular folders.

Here are some of my findings of the year:

Lowbrow - Insert Brain Here: https://lowbrow.bandcamp.com/album/insert-brain-here

Californian punk, shares members with Sic Waiting

NAFT - Turning Point For Continuation: link

My favourite melodic punk record of the year, technically an EP. Don't know where to stream it, but I ordered it from Japan. Long time fan of this band.

Shared Arms - Weary, ON: http://sharedarms.bandcamp.com/

Great punkrock from Weary, ON, Canada

Courage, Dear Heart - The Future Was Now: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Courage-Dear-Heart/387954427888351

They'll be releasing it on Dec 22nd, but had it up for streaming for a week. Great record, totally recommend checking it out when it's released.

Hate It Too  - Purple Mountains: http://lesstalkmorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/hate-it-too-purple-mountains

Another Canadian band

Teni Svobody - Teni Svobody: https://soundcloud.com/tenisvobody/

Russian melodic punk rock, great stuff. Haven't found a download though.

Heroes Die Too - Disgust-O-Rama: http://heroesdietoo.bandcamp.com/

Just found out about these guyes. Italians.

Lastkaj 14 - Stormar: http://lastkaj14.bandcamp.com/album/stormar

Sung in Swedish. Has members of Skumdum. Try the sixth track.

Rebuke/Money Left To Burn split: http://disconnectdisconnectrecords.bandcamp.com/album/split

Locals Rebuke and germans MLTB split. Melodic punk.

Dead Market - Asunder: (free download) https://www.mediafire.com/?xb8jbf5bkbigfbs

Singer of Jet Market's solo project.

Let's keep adding if we find new stuff, ok?

Figured donlombardo was referencing more skatepunk!!! Haha! Glad you made this thread. I've drifted away from more skatepunk and towards some more diverse music. That Sic Waiting caught me by surprise. Gonna check out some of your other recommendations.

Creator-Destructor has some more melodic skatepunk coming out in 2016 (Heartsounds, Cleave, Mute etc.)

Definitely looking forward to the Heartsounds record! They're great, and I'm also looking forward to the other records, just not as much.

I've had one foot in the skatepunk swamp since 2002, and the other has discover other genres as well. I always return skatepunk, the genre I know the best.

Let me know if you want to know my favourites from past years.
