wisdom81
In September I'll be spending 3 weeks in the US roadtrippin' from San Francisco to Miami. We want to go through San Francisco, Las Vegas, Austin and New Orleans but want to visit mostly countryside. We're coming up with a proper plan but I'm interested in knowing what places (record stores, restaurants, dives, diners, bars, etc) you guys would recommend. One Hundred Fifty-Two
Seeing as you petty much described half of the country I can't really pin down any recommendations. All of the cities you mentioned are awesome and everything 25 miles outside of any of those cities will cover your "countryside" allure. I'm a little confused on your means of transportation because typically road trips work in a loop back to the start.
One Hundred Fifty-Two
What country are you from?
wisdom81
No, I'm not Guy Fieri I'm looking for people's recommendations on places to eat and record stores I'm aware what a road trip is. This is not a typical one though. I will rent a car in San Francisco and drop it off in Miami I'm from Portugal
One Hundred Fifty-Two
Heads up that is a crazy expensive trip. San Francisco and Miami are two of the most expensive cities in the country (and Las Vegas if you plan on gambling). If you are renting a car already you should look into flights into and out of smaller airports. In the USA there is this crazy system where a flight from Milwaukee to Chicago to Miami may be cheaper than a flight Chicago to Miami. It makes no sense but this could potentially save you a couple hundred dollars each way. Since this already a crazy long trip you should add stops in Zion National Park and Grand Canyon National Park. The route will only add a couple hours to your travel time (I looked it up LV to Austin is 19 hours LV to Zion to GC to Austin is 23 hours) and these are some of the most scenic places in the country. Are you planning on sleeping in the car or camping or getting hotels? Edited April 12, 2017 by Tidal Wave piky0032
One Hundred Fifty-Two
As for food just stick to the regional specialty of the area you are in. "When in Rome". San Francisco: seafood vegas: buffet Austin: BBQ New Orleans: cajun miami: Cuban Edited April 12, 2017 by Tidal Wave

nancy_raygun
Seconding Zion National Park. I took a 3 month road trip around the country about a year and a half ago and Zion was a huge highlight.
