New Propagandhi LP!

Recommended Posts

Really not on Fat. The vinyl and the CD are coming out on Smallman.

As for Propagandhi/NOFX shit talking...

Propagandhi-Rock For Sustainable Capitalism:

I fuckin' love that one rock video where

that fucking jack-ass mohawked millionaire

prances around by far the worst sausage party on earth,

where by mere chance he's caught on film shaking hands

with an incredibly diverse collection of patriotic skins.

I like the message it sends:

With a Rebel yell, Just Do Exactly What You're Told.

One million douche bags can't be wrong?

"When did punk rock become so safe?"

You'll excuse me if I laugh in your face

as I itemize your receipts

and PowerPoint your balance sheets.

I cant think of any songs where NOFX talks shit on Propagandhi but there is a song where NOFX talks about finding a copy of Todays Empire on Soviette red vinyl. There might be a NOFX song Im missing tho.

I dunno, man. The musicianship is technically amazing, but with each new album I feel like they're losing the ability to pair the vocals with the music. Today's Empires was so singalongable (and so awesome that I'm making up words) and they still shredded on the tunes. Now, they shred and the vocals just seem kind of tossed off. I still love the band, but I'm just meh on this one.

I can't decide between this and the fact that their lyrics have also been getting consistently better as well. I agree that the songs aren't as memorable - especially in terms of the audience singing along live. But they are definitely more readable. I suspect this may be on purpose.

But, like a baby's head, I'll always have a soft spot for this band.

NOFX replied to Rock for Sustainable Capitalism with One Celled Creature off the Nofx Club and Wolves in Wolves Clothing. I believe the rift between them started with Fat Mike dropping their song from the Rock Against Bush Comp after Propagandhi refused to change lyrics criticizing George Soros (billionaire who was financing efforts to oust Bush in 2004)

Nofx One Celled Creature Lyrics:

[Melvin]

Life on a mattress in a robe,

in a room full of emptiness

[Fat Mike]

Knowledge has much better

uses than self-pitty and

superiority

[Melvin]

Maybe you are or could be

the next Hoffman, Mahatma,

or Chomsky

But no one will ever know

[Fat Mike]

Are you saying music can't

have a positive influence

on society?

[Melvin]

Not with shitty melody it won't.

[Melvin]

A sum of your parts are not

gonna change any hearts

not with hate in your eyes

[Fat Mike]

In order to lead by example

you have to show a path to a

better world,

not a cell

this is completely true. he's lost his sense of melody and its such a bummer, though i feel like it began on today's empires. there are still has some great songs on that one, but you could see where he was starting to edge towards just laying his essays on top of songs as opposed to writing lyrics to melodies. less talk is still one of my favorite records ever though. fuck, they were great.
