it's like facebook status updates, except that's it.

it's just a social networking site where you have tons of "friends" or followers who subscribe to your updates, and as the day goes on, you just say what you're doing.

it's the oddest thing. i don't get the obsession. i don't want people knowing what i'm doing every minute of every day.

Thanks Dan.

I guess it would be more handy for labels and whatnot to get those updates from them. But I agree with you on people knowing what I do every waking moment. That's what annoys me about Facebook...forgetting the actual status update thing...any time you do anything, everyone knows about it!

"Hey, look! Juan farted just now!"...

If you use Twitter just to say you're pooping or only follow people that post when they're on the can then you're going to HATE Twitter.

I use Twitter to get news, find deals, keep in touch w/ friends, and because I'm a social media geek.

Twitter is kind of replacing the AIM Away Message -- I'm 26 and I don't sit on the computer anymore, neither do my friends. Twitter makes it easy for me to see what people are up to.

Also, as I've written before I complained about Comcast on Twitter and I got in touch w/ a rep via Twitter. We talked and he refunded the Installation Fee for me because of the hassle I had w/ them. Saved me $50 for a silly Tweet of "Comcast sucks."

You can make Twitter useful, but following useful people, websites, or other sources. Some of my favorite things to follow are:

Woot

Obama

http://twitter.com/RLSLOG [website that tracks leaks of movies and stuff]

http://twitter.com/NewFrontiersman [Watchmen content]

Digg

Reddit

http://twitter.com/greggrunberg [Parkman from Heroes]

http://twitter.com/twittsburgh [Pittsburgh stuff]

MLB

NFL

NHL

Kotaku

Punknews

CNN

There are so many more, but I'm no going to sit here and name them all.

Twitter is dumb when you explain it, but it can be pretty neat if you make the best of it.

Having a smartphone is almost a priority for Twitter though. You can update via txt, but you can't read a lot, unless you have them all sent to your phone.

Since you have an iPhone check out the app Twinkle, it's free. It's my favorite app on my iPhone. It not only gives you the normal stuff you get on Twitter.com, but it uses the location feature to pull Tweets from other people in a certain radius from you. I use it all the time, it's kind of neat to see what other people are doing around your city. It comes in handy w/ traffic too, some people will update you on an accident or whatever.

Wow, I wrote way too much.
