Guest genericinsight
I don't see why anyone would call a soft drink simply "coke", because I thought Coke was a brand name/nickname for a brand name? When you say "I want a coke", I assume someone means a Coca-Cola brand soft drink as opposed to Pepsi/Sprite/7-Up/Dr. Pepper or anything else. When you say "I want a coke", I assume someone means a Coca-Cola brand soft drink as opposed to Pepsi/Sprite/7-Up/Dr. Pepper or anything else. The term "coke" has come to mean "I want a cola-flavored beverage," just like how the term "xerox" has come to mean "I want to photocopy something" or the term "kleenex" has come to mean "I want a tissue." 311thrice
Dr Pepper. I hate Coke, and I don't like the words pop or soda....especially pop. My grandparents say "cold drink". Every time I go visit them, they said "go in there and get you a cold drink"...referring to a Dr Pepper.

qskapunk
non-alcoholic beer can still have a small percentage of alcohol - 0.5% is the US limit

I can see how beer would be considered a soft drink, it's also carbonated.
