counterfiction
you can use the Expedit or you can pick up these metal shelves at Wal*Mart for like $40 a piece: although my collection has grown exponentially since then. also, i'm getting an expedit but these shelves are pretty solid if you're cool with the whole "industrial/garage" look
hickey
I put 7"s in cardboard boxes from bags unlimited (I currently have five boxes) they are in alphabetical order and the boxes are numbered. 10"s are also in alphabetical order by artist and are in the top left square of my expedit with a couple of box sets. My LPs, which take up the rest of my expedit, are also in alpha order and then chronological order by release date if I have more than one record by a certain artist. faith
all in those corrugated plastic boxes from bagsunlimited with a few separators got 5 LP boxes and 2 7" boxes (need a new one, too) they're piled up in my closet records in alphabetical order with splits and comps at the complete end. NOFX records in separate boxes
rafter242
Back to High Fidelity. I love that movie. I tried to read the book, but found the non-translated british writing/humor to be lacking. Don't get me wrong, I read plenty. Maybe I ruined the book by seeing the movie first. Yeah, we'll go with that. Please don't flame me. Guest
I keep them in milk crates. The only ones I keep in any kind of order are my Ramones albums. They're in chronological order.
heavyheavylowlow
I keep them in my fireplace (I took the pit out when I redecorated so I'm not trying to be funny, it's just a big whole in the wall). Although I probably should block up the chimney, I think they might be getting water damaged.
adamlikesmusic
I sort mine what I think is the standard way. Alphabetical by band, then within each band, the releases are chronological.
jhulud
I have no method to my organization...no real method...but yet I know where each record is.
mynameisdan
long planks, cinder block on each end (then either a crappy album or cardboard so the block doesnt scrape), ten inches at the end. 7's go in tiny crates that i found and for some reason fit 7's perfectly. cost: $
mynameisdan
man does anyone know where you can get 10" sleeves?

zachobbs
Alphabetically, then chronologically, left to right, row by row in the Ikea bookshelf thing. 12inches, then 10inches, then 7inches. my roommate gives me shit because all my records are like this, my DVDs are all in alphabetical order, and all my shirts are like this from (left to right): button up shirts (sub-divided by dress shirts, then plaids), collard shirts, long sleeved shirts (sud-divided by colors), then t-shirts, which are all grouped by colors (all the grays stay together, blacks together, whites together, etc etc etc). Do i have a problem?
rtw88
I got a 2x4 Expedit for my birthday!
derbsauce
I have "indie" on the top shelf...sorted into different sizes...then "hardcore" on the middle shelf...once again sorted by size...then "collections" on the shelf below...sorted by order of release, rather than size. scooterist136
I "organize" mine by genre, sort of. I have my 7 inchers in boxes with the overflow on the shelf next to the box, in my expedit. 10 inchers and other random sizes between 8" and 11" together, no order. mrc
I have my classic rock and comedy records separate from punk rock records. other than that i keep it by sizes, then alphabetical with little dividers to separate by letters for 7"s only. i dont use the dividers on the LPs because usually the spine is readable usually try the box sets, weird shapes (LTJ cheese, cakes) and odd sizes together.
