scottheisel
A co-worker pointed me to monoprice.com but they have dozens and dozens of different kinds of HDMI cables, and I have no idea which one is what I need. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

scotterson
i got a mediabridge cable from amazon for $10 and it works perfectly. my dad uses monster and i dont notice a difference. the things to look for are that it is HDMI version 1.3 and category 2. http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Ultra-High-Version-Category-Blu-Ray/dp/B0019EHU8G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240440993&sr=8-
flicker
moster cables are overpiced nonsense. dont be a sucker. AFAIK, theres not really any major differences in HDMI cables. a lot of times theyre just trying to squeeze extra cash from you.
AlexH.
That was a joke. I thought everyone knew monster cables were stupid. For those who don't: http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/03/audiophiles-cant-tell-the-difference-between-monster-cable-and/ http://consumerist.com/5181116/the-monst....mposite-cable s http://consumerist.com/366674/cnet-says-cheap-hdmi-cables-just-as-good-as-pricey-ones

Boojie Horsie
These are good cheap cables.http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10243&cs_id=1024008&p_id=3954&seq=1&format=2 You really won't need anything fancier than that. i grab all my cables there, people i work with go there too, its reliable, cheap and as good as the monsters cable for your all your needs until they put out 2120p or whatever that needs a bigger pipe. 1080p travels just as good on component btw, if the device supports it .its digital so youre not "losing signal" youre either getting it or not. just grab the cheapest one, you might grap gold plated of something, they do have better connection but they all give you the same results when it comes to sending a signal to your tv set. i also orders y cables to plug a console to headphones or pc speakers for 2.99, very useful and impossible to find. just look around for small cheap parts you might end up needing. thomas
It is pretty hard to mess up a cable, so just get the cheapest one in the length you need from monoprice. Try to make it under 15 feet, since you start to get signal loss over that (though I'm sure you won't notice and that is a damn long cable). AlexH.
man, I've heard about monoprice, but I'd never been there until now. I'm going to be able to hook up my laptop to a HDMI TV for under $8, complete with snazzy red cable.

kyle
I highly recommend you also buy a 90* port saver. This way you don't have to bend the cable when it's tucked up against your wall. If you put too much pressure on the cable while plugged in you can ruin the HDMI port. It's only a couple bucks. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041907&p_id=3733&seq=1&format=

akross
I love it when people come in to Target and think $50 for an 8ft HDMI cable is a good deal because it is gold plated... I bought my cables from monoprice, 2 6ft ones for ~$25 shipped.
