mattisr1984
dont know for sure but it seems to me that you wouldnt be able to seeing as how its supposed to be used for gifts (ie. why would you need to open a claim on a gift assuming youre using that option for its intended purpose). Just Another Tom
Yeah, if it is sent as a gift you can't file a dispute.
hickey
Someone on here bought a record for me and paid for it as a gift...I thought that was a great gesture. My concern is that paypal will find out that it's actually for goods and mess with my account.

steveooo
I always mark payments as gift with sellers I know or at least people I know can back them, otherwise I don't.
slinch
For small amounts it's a nice option, but with bigger ones they still charge you fees.
jasonskanks
if it is a seller i trust i would do this but a first time transaction with someone probably not.

Guest deathbydrums
Anyone know if "gifting" is allowed from Germany through paypal? I'm pretty sure Germany would be allowed to send money as a gift but a buyer tells me it's not possible. Thinking it's a miscommunication thing. Would love to hear from some Germans about this! Thanks men.
deafmx
i just ask for gift payments to avoid the fees, not to screw the sender. some of us just like to keep the selling cost as cheap as possible for the buyers. how big of an amount does it take to get to the point where they still charge fees on a gift payment? my friend might paypal me the RSD amount he owes me via gift...now i'm kinda worried. ducksworth
There is no fee if funding your gift w/ a PayPal balance or bank account. There is a fee if you use a credit card. I always give people the option of paying as a gift, not to rip them off, but to rip off eBay/PayPal. I'll even take less if that means eBay/PayPal doesn't get a cut. deafmx
and he was going to pay by credit card, but I know you can select "buyer pays fees" as I've had to do that.
IanRees
i usually will throw a buck on top of the total to cover paypal fees when someone wants it as a gift. Will only send as a gift w/ people ive dealed with or are known good sellers.
Guest
Holy shit ianmonsta, that sig is way too big in size and filesize.
mcm1610
I almost always gift the money if I buy off someone from here, but I would never do it for a total stranger. Not that I "know" any of you, but you know... But I assume that if the seller flakes, I'm effed.
jase
When I sell something I tell them to pay via goods in case there are any problems. I really don't want anyone to think I'm shady for any reason. I'd rather take the small fee than have someone potentially talk shit about me. Besides that I don't sell to make money
Snaggle Von Swift
I'll go it if I feel comfortable, but if not, I have no issue refusing.

I'm pretty sure Germany would be allowed to send money as a gift but a buyer tells me it's not possible. Thinking it's a miscommunication thing. Would love to hear from some Germans about this! Thanks men. I sell my older unloved records through discogs BUT don't want to ship anywhere other than Canada/USA, so my shipping details say it. Sometimes people reeeally want a record though. So if someone overseas wants it badly, I tell them that I will send it to them but they must send payment as a gift, which means I am not responsible for loss/damage. Lately a lot of things have gone "missing" when shipping to Europe and it really hurts to lose the record and $35 for shipping via air. So back to my original question (probably stupid) which revived this thread... can Germans send money as a gift through paypal?
andi
i looked for that option in m account and couldn't find it. so probably no. but i'm not the biggest interwebzgenius
yarostino
im not sure on this one... ask him to send it to you as "Dienstleistung" (german for "service"). theres no explicit "gift"-option but i remember when i sent somebody money as a "service" last time paypal didnt take any fees
