Guest Admin
Let's say that hypothetically, i am working with someone to develop a new site similar in thought to Record Nerd, but much more improved. What features would you like to see in such a site? My initial thoughts would be the ability to upload from excel files your entire record collection. Also, being able to use your existing recordnerd account info and transfer it to a new site would be nice. Just curious what other things you would like to see. jacobe
Sounds interesting. How about something almost like a checklist with bands complete pressing info. Perhaps something that would combine the listing parts of Record Nerd / Howsyouredge along with the information provided by sites like Burnt Wolf. Check out www.howsyouredge.com/swap for another top notch record tracking & trading site.
skumbucket
i like record nerd alright, but it seems to be missing something. something i can't quite put my finger on. the excel would be a good feature, or at least to be able to load more than one record info at a time, if that's possible. flood
much better than burnt wolf is the discography project on the nofxwiki.net site. if you're gonna do a better record nerd... categories artist / album / color / pressing info the search command on record nerd is abysmal.. you must be able to do multi-criteria searching.. ie specific album + color especially
riddle350
The ability to add picutes would be cool. Kind of like a recordnerd/burnt wolf/fliker combined site.
loren
yeah photos on it would be cool. even if we had to host them ourselves it would still be sweet to have them up on the same page as the list if that makes sense
inutil
Some way to talk with the other users through the site.
robotnerd
the ability to upload lists in a spreadsheet that the info will just be pulled correctly from.
benchwarmer
not just from excell, how about a .doc or word file as well
Guest scriptedrain
Definitely Excel compatability. Artist - Title - Label - Comments - Year - # Pressed - Jeff
grox
well for starters if you make a site that works, you already have one up on record nerd. some more formats would be nice, like 3" CD-Rs, 11"s, etc. oh, and make sure there's a CD category. aarondanger
Maybe some sort of messaging feature or a option to buy from users if they have records for sale.
hummingbeard
i like the messaging feature.. i think that would be pretty cool.
skumbucket
yeah, that'd be key if you want to have trades/sales as part of it. keep it insular, so you don't have to go outside to your email client to get a hold of someone.
Guest Admin
all great suggestions. We are also talking about having the ability to syndicate your lists to post on blogs, myspace, etc. We are working on something and with luck it will be up and running sooner than later. thanks. skumbucket
you are an unstoppable force of nature, mr virgil-man.
grox
virgil, is there any way you could contact the guy that runs record nerd and talk to him about the transfering list thing? I have over 550 items listed, and believe me, the last thing I want to do is catalogue them again. umm, and if you can, could you ask him why recordnerd isn't working? hehe. impact
You wouldnt have to catalog anything again .. when I switched from recordnerd to howsyouredge all I did was copy and paste everything from recordnerd and copy it to msword. Then I believe I went to tools/edit and removed the frames ! Then bingo, you have a complete text file of your records. Easy as that. altarsofradness
well for starters if you make a site that works, you already have one up on record nerd. amen to that.
faith
People with CD's only should get their accounts deleted. I hate searching recordnerds and finding only people trying to trade CD-R's.. Who the hell trades CD-R's anyway? If you're gonna steal music, be a man and download it instead of wasting money in shipping fees to get a damn CD-R! brennan
i agree with faith. make sure it definitely has no cd's section
Guest scriptedrain
Any updates on this? - Jeff
grox
i agree with faith. make sure it definitely has no cd's section no, there should definetly be a cd section. if not then it would just be a diluted record nerd. if you're mad about finding only cds in searches, you can specify what format you want to search for on record nerd.. faith
for a long time you couldn't tho... it's a fairly new option on record nerd. Also that wasn't the only point. Poeple use recordnerd to trade CD-R's which apart from being f-ucking lame is dumb as hell (and we don't wanna support stealing music don't we?) mattisr1984
i miss recordnerd. make this happen.
