cactusbot
Sometimes I get LPs and the center hole is a little too small or there is extra vinyl stuck in there. What methods have you guys found best for clearing that crap out and making the hole bigger?
djones0930
I noticed my Crystal Castles album had smaller holes so I forced the first record on there and almost couldn't get it off -- I just used a pen on the second one Also if you decide to just force the record onto the table to widen the hole, be sure to twist the record as you're pulling it off so you do not break the album! danthemjfan23
just be careful.
rockstar71888
i just slowly, but firmly press it down onto the platter, then what ever extra is there, i just peel it away. probably not the best method in the world, but i haven't had any issues doing it that way
gojira
It's a problem I run into a lot on my deck. The spindle of the AR-XA was apparently always the biggest complaint back in the day as it's EXACTLY industry standard and most plants weren't. So anyways.. any time I buy a NEW LP I always have to bust out the center hole a little bit using my house key [seriously]. I actually occasionally have problems with the 45 spanner that comes with the XA as some old Jamaican pressed singles are a little too small for it - of course a lot more are too big for my other 'normal' yellow dome spanner I also have and wobble. swaty327
The only lp that wouldn't go on my table was a Tim Barry lp. I thought i was goong to shatter it trying to take it off.
jimmyw247
same as above...the front door key works a dream!
gojira
I thought i was goong to shatter it trying to take it off. I always freak out when a record gets stuck. With the weird platter suspension I have it feels like I'm going to just rip the guts straight out if I force an LP off.
chiefwahoo
I use a closed pair of scissors and give it a spin or two. I figure at least that way it's somewhat likely to widen it evenly the entire way around the hole.
kurtz
I use a utility knife to shave it a little if I can't force it on. It's not difficult to do. It's probably harder to screw it up and somehow make the hole too big.

rockstar71888
maybe try lube. usually works on those tight holes ;-)
mcm1610
I have a buck knife that is pretty fine-tipped and gets wider, so I just shove it in there and gently spin the record on it until I think it's taken just enough off. I only overdid it once, and that was the first time I did it, because I didn't realize vinyl wasn't as hard as I anticipated.
arnoldlayne
The file with the squared-off end on your average pen knife/multi tool works great. Couple twists each side using just the record's own weight and it's usually perfect.

xjustinxschwierx
I just break out the ol' drill press, find the record needle size bit and drill away...duh!
tre
Jam a pen into it and like, wedge it around and shit. They can take it.
mclz
I just stick a pen through it as well.
Just Another Tom
I just use a pocket knife, remove the offending bit of material and bobs your uncle. I wouldn't recommend forcing it on to the platter, i did it once but because the spindle on my TT doesn't spin with the platter, the friction from the record reduced the platter speed to a slow crawl! jailhouse
Put ice cubes on your nipples until they are erect, and hang the LP from one of them as long as time permits. Repeat process.
Guest
Now that's record hole widening they don't teach you in record role widening school.
mcm1610
For people that are super-cautious... it's the middle of the record, it's not like you're carving close to the grooves or anything.
