Booking a Honeymoon (Advice)

Recommended Posts

my sister and her fiance are getting married at the end of july and booked theirs to jamaica through sandals and got a great deal. i know their airfare was less than $900 for both of them, and i'm not sure what the actual price of the resort was, but i do know that everything there is all inclusive, so i'd check that out!

My fiancee and I just booked our honeymoon for a week at the sandals resort in Antigua.

My parents are paying for it and they hooked up the honeymoon suite for the week. So the total with Airfare was like $8000. The other rooms were significantly less.

I agree with Allison. The all inclusive stuff is the way to go for this.

Just remember to book early to get some cheaper airfare in general. Also, if you are going to the Caribbean, get some travel insurance in case you get caught in a hurricane. It'll be like $120 extra but well worth it in case some shit goes down.

Is Sandals like the Apple Bees of vacations?

I always thought it would be some generic corporate fluff.

From what I understand, sandals is more for adults only (Not like it's a sex farm) They have a different set of resorts that are more family oriented called Beaches.

When we were researching honeymoon ideas, we like it a lot because it was all inclusive (all you can eat/drink, whenever, wherever) and it appeared to offer the most relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere in the area.

Everyone who's gone who I've talked to said that they've enjoyed it to no end. Applebee's of vacations or not, it seemed to be the best choice for us.

We also wanted to do things like Go to Mexico and check out the Mayan temples, or a week in Europe or something more adventurous, but really just wanted more of a completely relaxing time where we don't need to worry about other travel arrangements, sticking to a specific schedule for things and going nuts on really the only vacation we'll be able to take this year with just the both of us.

I'm trying to find a great deal on a honeymoon. I'd like to go to a beach and spend about a week there. Any suggestions on where the cheapest place is to book it?

You're in Dallas so I'd say the Caribbean islands and/or Cancun are awesome choices since they're more "local" to you. I'd also look at the Florida Keys but you have to stay away from those areas during Hurricane season.

If you're thinking of going during September look at California. Newport Beach and Huntington Beach are great areas. John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a local airport. You can fly in there and its a short drive to Huntington or Newport.

Man the beach is one of the last places i would want to go on a honeymoon. I have always lived less then 15-30 mins away from the beach and never go. I am sure i am the odd man out on this issue.

Hopefully when ever we set the date it is in the winter so i can rock some ski resort get away or something.

We went to Maui for our honeymoon. It was a sweet deal, because we got married in Waikiki at the end of a work trip for me (so the flight and hotel were paid for), then I used Hilton points for 3 nights at the Grand Wailea resort and used Hertz points for a free rental the whole time.

I always said I wouldn't really care to go to a beach or whatever for a honeymoon, but it was some kind of relaxing.

Jersey Shore.

The beaches around where I grew up are constantly high rated. The Sarasota, FL area, especially Siesta Key, has some beautiful beaches. I can't imagine it would cost must to stay there. However, it's not a very happening area and you wouldn't have shit else to do there.

I stayed in the Keys for a week for spring break a few years ago and it was the greatest time of my life. So much to do if you like doing stuff on the water, and Key West is a surprisingly fun place considering I hate most of the touristy areas of Florida. I wouldn't worry about hurricanes. There is only like a 10% chance of a bad hurricane hitting there every year.

I had a lot of fun in Sandals. We went to the one of the resorts in St. Lucia. It for sure can be Applebees. We saw couples who didn't leave the pool side bar. We took trips to the sulfur pools and the rain forest on the island. It's still mostly white people on these things but I mean, most higher end resorts are. It's really up to you what you do.

We also went to a place in Mexico that was all inclusive (but not a Sandalsish chain). It was pretty rad. The resort wasn't as nice but you really got more for your money. Room service was included (with standard rooms not the higher end rooms like Sandals) and all food and drink on the resort were included. They actually had a bar on the beach and giant coolers of water and beer you can just open up and take. Again, not as fancy as sandals but still really nice.

I'm 100% with you on this. Although I have no plans to get married any time in the foreseeable future.

I've never lived more than 15 minutes from a beach, and I can't remember the last time I even went to one... My brother went on an Alaskan cruise for his honeymoon and said it was awesome. I don't know if the cruise thing would be for me, but I can certainly see myself getting into that more than staying at a resort on a beach somewhere.

...mostly, I just hate tropical climates.

Thanks for all of the ideas. In no way can I afford $8,000 or anywhere close to that lol.

I just got in contact with someone from Club Solaris, an all-inclusive Cancun resort. My sister in law just told me they go there every time and it's looking to be about $1500. Looks pretty nice too.

Cruises are rad. Free all you can eat food all the time (not the best I've eaten but what you'd expect for free). Floating hotel. Casino. Entertainment (kind of lame, but at least laughably so). My wife and I did 8 days on the Mexican Riviera in a suite for under $2000 for our honeymoon and we loved it. This is the website to check:

BOOYA!

Definitely recommend a cruise. My wife and I took a belated honeymoon cruise and it was a blast. 7 days, Mex and Caribbean on Royal Caribbean for something like $400 each. It left out of New Orleans, so we didn't even need to spring for airfare.

Was this all-inclusive (food, alcohol, etc)? If so, who did you book it through?

Yeah, it included food, but not alcohol. A friend of my sister-in-law works for Continental, and they got the great deal through their travel department. Fortunately for us, they were allowed to book other people at the same rate! It was an interior cabin, but who cares, you're never in your room any way.

Looking forward to next year b/c Royal C's re-entering the New Orleans market with a bigger boat!
