Guest markovianprocess
Specific albums with my favourite song from the album in brackets. Mogwai - Mr. Beast (Acid Food) múm - Yesterday Was Dramatic Today Is OK (I'm 9 Today) Mono - You Are There (The Flames Beyond The Cold Mountain) Lymbyc Systym - Daytrotter Session (Astrology Days) Brian Eno - After The Heat (Luftschloss) Other weird stuff (not post-rock, just cool instrumental music) you might like: Teleidofusion - Teleidofusion (Autumn Is Calling - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTtE0DNkwZA) Four Tet - There Is Love In You (Sing) Miles Davis - In A Silent Way (Shhh/Peaceful)
bill
Sonic Youth released a series of e.p.'s and the first one of them is really good, I think it's called SYR 1 or something, I don't think it had a title. Beware however as there is a lot of complete dogshit lurking in the rest of the series.
elzar
Everything Sharkticon said. Plus:The Album Leaf Below the Sea El Ten Eleven The Evpatoria Report God is an Astronaut Grails Hammock Labradford Pelican September Malevolence The Samuel Jackson Five The Six Parts Seven This is your Captain Speaking Tristeza Unwed Sailor Yndi Halda This list is a good start^ =El Ten Eleven =God is an Astronaut =Explosions in the Sky are some of my favorite post rock bands. I also stumbled upon a band named: té They are a Japanese post-rock band that are similar to explosions in the sky. Somewhat hard to track down, but worth it in my opinion! drabley
Te is more shoegaze than post rock, imo. I have all of their albums if someone wants them. Toe (also from Japan) is more in the post-rock vein. I was on a huge Japanese kick for about 6 months. Some of their math rock bands could school half of this country. dobski
You guys are amazing. I'll be back in about a year after I've checked all this out haha. But just putting it out there: if anyone has any records from any of these bands that they're looking to let go of, let me know because I might be interested in buying them. Derek™
Surprised no-one has mentioned Maybeshewill. I strongly suggest them... but only if you dig behemoth riffs intertwined with piano, and sprinkled with electronic. I find them to be quite original. They've also got a new album scheduled for a 2011-Spring release. Observe.
philviral
Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Godspeed frontman's side-project. Horses in the Sky is one of my favourite albums.
