The VC Mix CD Trade

Recommended Posts

I guess this thing just died. Was there ever another thread started? The person I sent mine to hasn't posted here in a month and he didn't say anything to me about receiving it. I sent it last week. Unless I'm missing a thread somewhere [if I am, delete this and call me a moron].

Anyways, here's my mix in case anyone cares:

I printed this out and put it inside the floppy case, if it doesn't match up well being copied here I'm sorry, but it printed fine.

# I'm sorry it took me a little longer to ship this out to you.

# I really wanted to make a great mix and it took me a long time to get the

# sequencing just right. I'm not sure if you're a fan of hip-hop, but

# I hope you enjoy at least a few of the songs on this mix. This really is a

# testament of the type of music I grew into during the last year or so.

# Typing this tracklist up in the syntax of BASIC code was a little idea that

# I came up with at the last second that I thought fit perfectly with the packaging.

10 PRINT "Jamie T - Rawhide (ft. Lily Allen)"

# Over the past year or so all of my mix CDs had to include Lily Allen in some fashion. I love her vocal part, it paces the song well. I picked this as the intro because of the way the song begins and also because its a pop-song that hints at hip-hop thanks to Jamie's vocal swagger.

20 PRINT "Gnarls Barkley - Run"

# The day this track leaked I knew it was perfect for this mix.

30 PRINT "Hot Chip - Over & Over"

# I was shopping for new headphones this summer and this song was on a demo MP3 player to test the headphones. I fell in love with the beat of this tune (and the headphones). I could have dealt with out the spelling parts, but other than that this song is perfect.

40 PRINT "Girl Talk - Once Again"

# I chose this song because of the killer Boston sample during the intro. If you're not familiar with Girl Talk he's an artist that's gathering a lot of buzz because of his unique spin on being a mashup artist. He takes tiny parts from Top 40 hits and Indie stalwarts and combines them to make one fluid track. Look him up on Wikipedia for more information if you like this song.

50 PRINT "Lupe Fiasco - Go Go Gadget Flow"

# This song is merely a testament of Lu's vocal skills, but it's so damn catchy and sets up a strong hip-hop presence over the next few tracks.

60 PRINT "M.I.A. - Paper Planes"

# I loathed this song at first, but it certaintly grew on me. Give it a few listens before you write it off. M.I.A. is easily my favorite artist at the moment, it was so hard to pick one song from her. Yes, that's a sample from The Clash.

70 PRINT "Spankrock - Touch Me"

# Spankrock is dirty, I mean really filthy, but this song is so hot.

80 PRINT "Clipse - Momma I'm So Sorry"

# I needed to put a song on here with a really catchy beat that gets stuck in your head.

90 PRINT "Cool Kids - Mikey Rocks"

# The beat in this tune was the perfect match to follow the previous song. It's deep and has a lasting impact. The lyrics are also quite whitty at times. They're also labelmates with the next artist.

100 PRINT "Kid Sister - Pro Nails (ft. Kanye West)"

# Kid Sister was my favorite artist of 2007. This song isn't my favorite of hers, but I figured the guest would make the song more attractive for you.

110 PRINT "Amy Winehouse - You Know I'm No Good (ft. Ghostface Killah)"

# I'm really sick of hearing about Amy, but I had to include this song because Ghostface's verse is incredible.

120 PRINT "The Shins - Sea Legs"

# I wanted to motion away from this segment with an indie song that featured a strong hip-hop influence. It took me a good while swapping between track 16 and this one to decide on the final sequencing.

130 PRINT "MGMT - Time to Pretend"

# I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but I absolutely adore this song. It feels so appropriate to being the winding down of this mix.

140 PRINT "Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma"

#Vampire Weekend released the first great album of 2008 with their S/T record. This song is so peaceful and charming, much like the rest of that record. I highly suggest picking it up.

150 PRINT "Radiohead - 15 Step"

# As I mentioned above placing this song took awhile, but I really like how the flow from the previous tune and into the final song.

160 PRINT "Justice - The Party"

# This song was the first one I picked out for this mix and I immediately pegged it as the closer. The lyrics may contradict its track placement, but I envisioned it as a great fit to end the record and head out for the night at the bar.

180 INPUT "Would you like to listen to this mix again? (y/n)", A$

190 IF A$ = "Y" OR A$ = "y" THEN 10

200 PRINT "Thanks for listening! Let me know what you thought! - Kirby"

210 END

I got eroc's mix the other day.

Damn its good...I need to thank him

It allowed me to finally hear not water music&weston...not bad.

But there's 1 track that stood out:

A live wire love affair - accident after amityville

Good lord is this track good...who are they and where can I find more?

The track list is:

*88 fingers louie - 100 proof

*Bear vs. Shark - buses/no buses

*Every time I die - I been gone a long time

*Hot water music - turnstile

*Lifetime - theme song for a new brunswick basement show

*A live wire love affair - accident after amityville

*Poison the well - artist rendering of me (live)

*Refused - new noise

*Shooter jennings + manifesto no. 1

*Drive..in.by - prelude to an anthem

*Small brown bike - no place like you

*Weston - feelings stupid feelings

*The bronx - history's stranglers

*Matisyahu - king without a crown (live)

*Leatherface - not superstition (acoustic)

*Modest mouse - polar opposites

*Blackout pact - playing dead won't take the ring off your finger baby

*The lawrence arms - 100 resolutions

*Digger - quitters never win

*Breaking pangaea - worst part

*Shai hulud - linoleum

He included a hand written track list with notes on each song and why it was chosen...really cool.

As a bonus he used to have a label and threw in 2 of his releases...I haven't had a chance to check them out...ill post here when I get home and have a chance to.

As a bonus the mix lasted my full train commute this morning....which rocked.

So thanks eroc!

dude you just put a smile on my face. i'm so glad you liked it. i'm def enjoying yours by the way! are you serious about a live wire love affair? cause if so that's the coolest thing i've ever read...that's my band that unfortunately doesn't do much. most of us met in college and now we got members all over Pennsylvania and around NY. at this point the guitarists are still recording and putting stuff together and as soon as i can get a week off or so i'm gonna head up to long island and put down some more vocals. check out www.myspace.com/lwla. no vocals but it's that track and another. i bet these songs are 2 years old so they are pretty "outdated". some find musicians and great dudes. pm me with your addy...i threw away the envelope and forgot to write it down. send me it again and i'll try to get some more stuff for you (you def need some more weston)
