311thrice
My wife-to-be wants to go to Costa Rica to see the jungles and be on the beach....I really don't care where we go as long as it has a beach. Cancun is out of the picture because we're taking a trip with her family there early next year. Costa Rica is pretty expensive and out of our budget. My question to you is....what sites can you recommend (besides funjet) that offer all inclusive deals that are on the cheap side. By cheap, I'd prefer less than $1500 for the 2 of us. We want to stay for about 5 nights. Also, are there any other places like Costa Rica that have jungles and beaches and stuff?
vittywatt
Eric, I'm working on planning a honeymoon as well! If you can find some place that's under $1500 for 2 people then post it here!! Also what are your dates? We wanted to go to Belize but it appears Sept is prime Hurricane season so that's out. Currently looking at going to Hawaii! Pig Roasts! Sign me up! 311thrice
Cancun is pretty cheap....you can get that for under $1500 easily. Funjet has great deals to Cancun. We're going at the end of May! Can't wait! I'm actually looking at Hawaii as we speak lol.
ajxd
Do a cruise. Multiple beaches, all food paid for. My wife and I did a cruise and it was perfect. Lots of RnR and fun stuff to do on the ship.

vittywatt
Cruises scare me because I know how much I like to drink...I could see a 5 day cruise costing me a grand in booze lol
drabley
Try Puerto Rico. It has beaches, mountains, rainforest, caverns, phosphorescent bays... pretty cheap too.
thousandjulys
don't rule out costa rica so quickly, i go every year and its awesome and on the cheap. plus if you're going there you don't want to stay in an all inclusive place anyways. it's safe, so get out and mingle with the locals. there are plenty of great deals to be had on homeaway or vrbo. like this for instance: http://www.vrbo.com/281330 two guests can stay in the smaller house for $39 a night. you can't fucking beat that! i've been to this exact area. it's fucking awesome, just steps away from the beach and not too touristy. but puerto viejo is just a small cab or bus ride away should you want more bars etc. check it out! monsterrod
Agreed. Costa Rica is really cost-effective and they have a baby sloth sanctuary you can visit. That's where my lady and I are planning our honeymoon.

mutinyzine
I've been travelling in central america and my favorite carribean beaches are around Tulum, Mexico, just an hour and a half south of Cancún. It all depends on what kind of vibe you want apart from the beaches. I would not spend my honeymoon in Cancún itself. Horrible place. I love the Nicaraguan beaches on the pacific side but they're not always thumbs up for swimming. Beutiful country though, amazing towns (except for Managua). In Costa Rica, you'll probably need to pay a bit too get a good standard. It's a beautiful country but it can suck too, it depends on the vibe you're after. Costa Rica is definitely the most touristic area in central america hence the higher prices. And, what Costa Rica has, the surrounding countries have as well. My tip, keep Nicaragua in mind. 311thrice
Yu, I would love to come out there! I'll check and see what prices are to Thailand. And Christer, thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind. I'll check out Nicaragua.
djones0930
This thread depresses me just as much as the "Top 10 Beaches" on the Travel Channel haha. I've had opportunities to visit Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Rome back in high school, but I couldn't sell enough sports cards out of my locker to pay for any of them. Good luck with wherever you go! Or can go to haha Check out CABO WABOOOOO
almightyseancore
bahamas are nice. you can probably book a cruise for under a grand if you play your cards right.
311thrice
We're now looking at a cruise. My only problem is that alcohol is not included and that will add a nice chunk of change to our bill.

drabley
Not sure how I'd feel about spending my honeymoon in the closet of a room you get on a cruise ship. But if you do go on a cruise, pick one of the higher end lines. Avoid Carnival and Royal Caribbean unless you want a bunch of kids running around and pissing in the jacuzzi. vittywatt
We really wanted to visit this: Damn hurricane season
drabley
I wouldn't let hurricane season change your plans. That's like someone not visiting Boston in February because it's prime blizzard season. Or someone not visiting Florida at all because it's the lightning strike capital. You'll be fine.
