mcstuff
So I picked up a copy of Discipline by King Crimson, but it's a promo copy. I'm guessing it's not that big of a deal nowadays?

almightyseancore
got lots of cds with these from used stores, but never a record. i remember my buying a copy of tripmaster monkey's "practice changes" with a golden promo stamp on it, and thinking it was the raddest thing ever. deafmx
the best thing about promo albums is when they're changed or never released.

Anyway, I figured it wasn't a big deal. It's pretty neat, and I think the WB sleeve is a nice touch. That, and it's an awesome album. Dillhole
I have tons of promo copies on vinyl. On older vinyl its actually pretty common from what I've seen. I like them since in most cases they are in far better shape than the regular copies floating around at the same store. Your King Crimson one has a huge stamp, the ones I have are harder to see and in most cases on the back upper right corner.
mcstuff
Ya, as far as I can tell, it's in pretty good condition. Also, it seems to have two labels on the first side.
shenanigans
This actually went to the supreme court recently. Some of the bigger stamps say that the record/cd must be returned to the record label on request. The supreme court said that since record labels never actually expected them to be returned that they're the property of whoever they sent them to and they can do what they want with them. I hate those too. They cut right through the jacket and the inner sleeve. Luckily I only have a handful of those.

somethingvinyl
Actually, promo copies of older albums are considerable more collectible in many instances. The idea behind it being that they were the first records off the line, thus closer to the original pressing and sound better (sound deteriorates after multiple repressing from the same plates). For instance the difference between original pressings and promo pressings can be significant: Beach Boys - "Smiley Smile" Original mono pressing: http://www.popsike.com/the-beach-boys-lp-smiley-smileMONO/150594126659.html Beach Boys - "Smiley Smile" Promo: http://www.popsike.com/BEACH-BOYSSMILEY-SMILEORIG-1967-PROMO-MONO-LPMINT-/160453685037.html ... Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue" Mono: http://www.popsike.com/Rare-JAZZMiles-DavisKind-of-BlueMONONMSUPERB/250800804079.html Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue" Mono Promo: http://www.popsike.com/MILES-DAVISKIND-OF-BLUEMONOLP6-EYE-WHITE-PROMOLP/320512662950.html If you have a promo copy of a significant or rare record, might be worth more cash than you thought.
