Tipping At Shows!

Recommended Posts

I tipped 1.50 on a 26 dollar bill for my meal last night. The server was too busy talking to his hostess buddies than he was to make sure we were tended to.

That being said, I always tip 20% to servers and a buck per drink to a bartender if they're good to me.

Food for thought: shows are getting more expensive. It's going to get harder and harder to pull a tip from those of us that just paid $40 bucks for an hour and a half set by some band that, more often than not, practically phones in an entire performance.

Durrrr why do I tip?

Hurrr why do they get paid so little?

Glurrr why can't we just change a system that's worked fine for centuries because I'm too stupid to understand it?

Blurrr servers are pathetic why don't they get a real job? Real jobs are so easy to find nowadays FLURRRRRRR!!!

Yeah people who wait tables are pathetic. Tell that to your server at Red Lobster. He probably has a bachelor's degree but can't find a job for shit.

Throw em a couple bucks and shut your fucking mouth.

the restaurant industry is a good example of what's happening in our country on a smaller scale.

the big owner dude at top is making all the $$, while paying his employees next to nothing, and expecting the consumers/middle class to buck up and make sure the employees don't go hungry.

it blows my mind how many people are unfamiliar with server wages.

"why would you get a job that pays so little?"

cos it doesn't. we don't work for our checks, we work for our tips. paychecks are mostly for tax purposes, and the little extra is just...nice.

with tips and hourly combined i bring in about $15 an hour on average.

serving is a great job.

we aren't really being fucked with our hourly, tho no one would complain if they decided to pay us more.

Server wage in VA is also $2.13, however, that is prior to any declared tips. If your declared tips do not bump up the hourly wage hour to minimum wage you will be compensated on your paycheck. However, declared tips usually bump it up to more than minimum wage so your paycheck will be $0. And that is only what you have to declare. All credit card tips are declared, and it depends on the restaurant as to how you declare your cash tips. Awesome places will just let you declare 5% of your sales or so; shitty places make you declare all of it. The worst places make you pool your tips with the other servers.

$1 a drink or 20% should be the norm. Fuck all you cheap-ass Mr. Pink bastards who don't tip. Not everyone has the opportunity to get a job with a better wage, and server jobs are plentiful and have flexible hours.

It should be a requirement that everyone that works in the service industry for at least 3 months.

funny thing about my job. we all make sandwiches, yet more than half of us have degrees. doh! but make more money there because well. with a city full of overeducated adults, it's always been kinda hard to find a job in each respected field. even in the 90's when things were booming.

i know a dude who's a shitty tipper no matter where we go or how good the service is. even on beers he'll tip a dime or what loose change he has in his wallet. his excuse is he's poor. i keep reiterating how his parents pay his bills/rent and he shouldn't be out at a club drinking every night if he's poor. he doesn't know what poor is since he's been taken care of his whole life and is still a child.

dude's 27 years old and still mooching off his parents and now works as a host at olive garden. loser...

where the hell are you going where shows are $40? i haven't paid that much for a show since i saw elvis costello and that was front row and in an intimate setting.

you can't expect any bartender to have any sympathy for you if you just paid $40 for a ticket and can't afford to put $1 for a drink in the tip jar.

Outside of punk/hardcore shows or bar shows the cost is regularly $40+. A $25 ticket is going to come out to around $40 after fees. Venues are charging $5+ for processing even if you but the tickets ahead of time at the box office.
