mot
I'm going to start selling off some of my collection and was curious, I have quite a few records that are sealed and on colored vinyl. Has anyone had problems with buyers saying they received a record that was not on color? Should I open them and sell them? Any suggestions would be appreciated. nelso330
You never know...I recently ordered a colored brown edition of Kevin Devine's Make the clocks move...when I opened it, it was Black.....so I mean a label/distro can make mistakes....if its highly valuable due to it being colored I say open it to make sure! people dont mind buying something if it says "unplayed" and all that! Just keep the shrink wrap on is my advice!
kurt
I agree that it's best to open them first. Haha luckily most of the "mistakes" I've had with labels or distros involved them sending me an even rarer variant then the one I ordered! crazydiamond
I feel like it doesn't matter if they were opened as long as its in "good condition" and "unplayed". I personally prefer to know which color im getting, Idc if its opened
Shitty Rambo
I honestly don't care if a record I'm buying from an individual is opened or sealed. As long as the disc and sleeve are in good condition I'm happy. Although I'd be more inclined to drop cash on a colored disc I could see than one that's assumed to be one thing but turns out to be another. IanRees
I bought a copy of Strung Out - Twisted By Design on Blue from someone on Discogs, when i received it it was sealed but it was Black. He was cool about it and reimbursed me the difference for what it would have costed to just order the black from Fat. Mistakes happen but as long as you take care of it with the person it shouldn't be a big deal.
albert
I like sealed records personally but i see how that could be a problem. I would say it depends on the record itself and compay that put them out. Many times i have bought colored vinyl from say victory for example and didnt open them until way later when I wanted to get them signed by a band. And they always were the right color. Maybe I just had good luck though? I still havent opened my animals as leaders clear vinyl. But i am sure it is clear.
mot
Thanks guys. I'll most likely open them. I recently sold a Nirvana Bleach colored that I kept sealed for 16+ years. I had to open before I sold it so I knew if it was a $100 record, or a $300 record...of course it was the $100 one!

somethingvinyl
I like to take a gamble on sealed vinyl sometimes. In my mind, it's like going to the casino. I bought Thou - "Summit" first pressing for $10 on eBay. They're all sealed the same way so no telling what it's going to be. And it turned out to be white. I also did the same thing with NOFX - "War On Errorism" when that guy who was selling all those hundreds of 90's albums a few months back on eBay. Turned out to it was black, but I only paid $18PPD total. A little more than normal but if it had been white, what a deal. It's happened with others but these are the only examples I can think of. Sure makes the HOBBY/COLLECTING more fun. Also:

firefoxUSSR
Collecting records is something I don't get. For me the whole point is a better than-cd-quality copy. I say if you must have decorations for your wall buy an album flat.
