I have used MU for sending master tracks off to mixing and mastering for years now. Hope it's temporary, as the charges are "wildly overblown." dreamover
I'm bummed. I have used MU for sending master tracks off to mixing and mastering for years now. if that's why you're bummed, there's tons of alternatives.
GradedOnACurve
I downloaded some awesome videos really fast off with their free option. They had great servers. Oh well we'll see another two or three filehosting sites pop up soon in its place.

adamlikesmusic
Yeah, but for what it's worth, Megaupload was pretty shitty anyways. Mediafire is streets ahead. Either way, those dudes are in some serious shit.
kriss
I only ever use Mediafire. Hopefully after this coming week, that'll still be the case.
Guest
Megaupload was amazing for video files, because of their high size cap and the fact you could also stream them. Mediafire is only good for music.
tyler
Hackers are starting to take down sites in retaliation. Justice.gov is down, UniversalMusic is down, and some others.

kidamnesiac
There are alternatives but I have tons of stuff already archived on MU. They have the best speeds up/down around and the filesize cap is double what most hosting sites allow for free users. I like Mediafire but I like Megaupload better. Guest
Where the CEOs Americans? I have not read a ton about it, but I do know it was Hong Kong based, so a little weird the US Gov't took it down.
magicpanda
Where the CEOs Americans? I have not read a ton about it, but I do know it was Hong Kong based, so a little weird the US Gov't took it down. "Early 2011" - "The FBI contacted New Zealand Police in early 2011 with a request to assist with their investigation into the Mega Conspiracy." said Detective Inspector Grant Wormald of OFCANZ 28-OCT-2011 - MegaUpload labelled a 'rogue' site by MPAA. 09-DEC-2011 - MegaUpload releases a music video with RIAA artists endorsing MegaUpload. 10-DEC-2011 - UMG doesn't like the video. Has it removed from YouTube. 12-DEC-2011 - MegaUpload files suit against UMG on the grounds that UMG cannot remove the content as MegaUpload holds the copyright, not UMG. 16-DEC-2011 - UMG says "So what? We can take down whatever we want!" and "You can't touch us. This isn't DMCA. We didn't take it down because of copyright. We took it down because we can." 21-DEC-2011 - MegaUpload labelled a "rogue" site by the USTR. 28-DEC-2011 - MegaUpload wants an explaination from UMG. 19-JAN-2012 - MegaUpload shut down by Feds 20-JAN-2012 - New Zealand arrests in US led global copyright infringement investigation of Megaupload.com and related sites. jryall
I wouldn't be surprised if the Feds go after rapidshare, mediafire, etc. The Feds are gonna love how the people won't need any internets after that. Let's see how AOL, Verizon, AT&T etc will like it.
sharkie
i wish the feds would go after the banks and crooked wall street trading as hard as they're going after music/movie pirates.
raidenradio
A lot of people are pissed because they are out a lot of personal date. Not to mention all the people who pay for their premium services. So.... the government shut down a site because deem it's illegal and their customers are pissed. Welcome to the club. Unfortunately, with SOPA/PIPA in the spotlight, piracy is the hot topic right now. i'd imagine the record/movie industry is lobbying pretty hard, too.
