mameeshkamowskwoz
So I decided it's time to sell some of my records and will probably put them up on eBay soon, but I have a question: One of the records is Neurosis - Sovereign from Record Store Day a few years ago and it's sealed, but there are three color variants. Should I open it to specify the color or is leaving it sealed a better idea?

Should I open it to specify the color or is leaving it sealed a better idea? Depends. If you know what color you got, Id keep it sealed and leave a disclaimer in the listing about no returns so that people cant just switch the records out with a more common copy. If you dont know what color you got, you obviously should probably open it so that you can cater your auction to specific variant collectors. timbrh2001
Also, if all 3 variants go for approximately the same price, and sell well on ebay, you prob just wanna keep it sealed to increase its value.
gutzonborglum
Personally, I wouldn't care. It's not a Star Trek figure, which you can see through the packaging to ensure what you're getting. I'd much rather have an 'opened' copy of a record that's verified than something I'm not sure about. Plus, it's really, really easy to reseal anything that's in shrink wrap. Records don't hold any more value opened then they do sealed, do they? As long as the playing surface is clean?
jerseydave77
I don't buy sealed variants on eBay personally. Did it once, got ripped off, Paypal claim recouped my money. Too many shady people on eBay to trust most of the time.
deafmx
better off opening it to verify color, and you can always state it was opened to check color and remains unplayed. most people want to know what they're getting, especially in the case of the $20 12" from RSD last year
mameeshkamowskwoz
So it sounds like I should probably open it. That way I can ship it in a plain sleeve anyways so it won't split the ends of the sleeve if it's printed. Cool thanks.
daegor
I'd leave it up to the buyer...
moonbeams
Open it, sniff it, lick it, but don't bite it. It's going to be opened eventually.
diabretic
Why is this even worth asking? Open the mother fucker up. have you ever seen a record and went "i'd have paid way more if this was sealed" if you have, then we think very differently. mameeshkamowskwoz
I think it's worth asking because I only know my preferences and figured it was worth getting input from other people. And no, I generally do not pay more if something is sealed... but some people do.
