sinking_in_design
I haven't sold on Ebay in a long time and I know final value fees have gone up, but sheesh they freaking charge a final fee for shipping. So for $4 shipping they charge final value shipping fee of 52 cent. I don't really remember them charging that in the past. I can live with the insertion fee and final value fee for the item, but a fee for shipping cost....that is lame. For anyone who has never sold on Ebay here is a break down of the cost. Buy it now price 39.99 Shipping 4.00 Total funds received: 43.99. FEES 1.58 Paypal fee 0.50 Insertion fee 5.20 Final value fee 0.52 Final value shipping fee 3.74 Actual shipping cost (not including packaging material) 31.53 Record cost -43.07 Overhead cost +43.99 Funds Received $0.92 "Profit" (not including time spent, gas to the post office, and packaging material)
outxofxbeer
That's the nature of the beast.
hoofarted
Their reasoning being that sellers would charge, using your example: $40 shipping, and $3.99 for the record. In reality, it was almost always used on lower priced junk for the most part. Cheap Chinese headphones and such. They'd charge $.99 for the product, and like $10 for postage. moonbeams
This is why I pulled all my records from eBay and went to discogs. I have to charge at least $12 for shipping. I pulled out of eBay 3 months ago and they're still billing me for final value fees.
somethingvinyl
Final Value Fees suck, in general. I just sold a ton of crap and made $800+ on eBay. Of course the Paypal "fees" for using their service are a lot but then my Final Value Fees are something like $75.

natealcatraz
I had some records I didn't want from RSD and I wanted to sell/trade them here, but I didn't get approved until after a week later. Then it was too late I sold them all! eBay sucks unless you really have junk to sell that didn't cost you a dime to begin with.
youspinmeround
Discogs fees are now on par with ebay
jerseydave77
the shipping fee has always bothered me as well. There is no way around it all except to do more direct sales. I am totally up to pull something for a side sale and knock a few dollars off to avoid fees at this point.
spoonbill
pretty sure the final value fee to shipping was added at the same time that regular final value fees were reduced so its not really that big of an increase. its always taken from the lowest shipping price offered as well.
