cwhitmuzik
I'm curious how you guys do the whole college thing with records. Just started late in the year, and I didn't have a player there, so this year will be the first time I'm going to need to do this. What do you guys do? I keep them in a bookshelf at home, so I can't really transport that. I'm trying to think of the best way to do this.

Yeah, I was pretty much thinking that crates would be the best way to go with it. And then not go with my whole collection. Luckily I'm in a suite this year, so there's a little more room, but yeah. Pretty much a dorm room.
Emo Revival
Yeah I had a few records that I listened to the most in crates in my closet. Nothing was ever taken, but I was always worried, and ending up cutting down a lot after my first semester, until I only had about 10-15 records
gutzonborglum
Aah, college. I just brought my shitload of cds with me, left the vinyl at home. Man, that doesn't seem like it was that long ago. I can't believe I'm turning 30 next week. Sunrise....sunset sjb2k1

Sunrise....sunset It's just tough because I've spent so much money on it in the past six months, that to not have it 8/12 months of the year feels like a total waste. adamlikesmusic
I didn't bother bringing any records when I lived in the dorms, but after freshman year, I've always had at least some of my records at school with me.
thischarmingman
I'd buy the cardboard boxes because then when it comes time to move, they are much easier to transport, and provide slightly more protection. Milk crates leave the tops exposed to all kinds of hazards in a dorm room. EmoVeganBoy
mindovermatter
^ agreed. I used the LP storage boxes to avoid careless folks from messing up the top 2 inches of my LPs. Made transporting them back & forth much easier as well.
hipsterasfolk
I buy these cubes from Target called Itzo's. They are $4-5 and they fit records in them and can stack in any way. Easy to store and move and then you can connect them and have a ghetto college shelf lol

hipsterasfolk
Yea, they are great for what I pull off the shelves at school. Granite I don't have an epic load of records but I'm over 500..... Unless I store my expedit under my bunk bed ahaha But my last 2 beds have collapsed so I would rather not take that risk ahah
cymbalism15
While we´re on the topic, what did you all do about a table/setup in college and did you do anything to help with acoustics?
robotnetwork
DON"T DO IT. Listen to mp3's and leave the hi-fi at home.
mcm1610
I didn't really start buying vinyl until my junior year of college and I lived in a house at that point, so it was easy for me, but i'd say milk crates are your best option for in a dorm. Just don't go crazy. You're in college though so I can't imagine you're buying like crazy.
circuit bored records
Started buying vinyl when I was 16 and for years I kept them in milk crates stolen from behind a supermarket. Moved three times within a couple years with them and never had any damage at all. Best advice I got: Definitely keep em in a spot where no roommates/housemates will fuck with them /play them/spill beer on them.. Can't tell you how much shit of mine my roomate replaced from breaking/misuse, but I would have straight killed the fool if he fucked up my valuable LPs

Good question, I'm trying to get my own player and not just my mom's bigass older one. so yeah, any tips would help.
kylec123
I've lived in a dorm for the past 4 years. I normally only take my 7"s and a few 12"s with me and leave my expedit full of LPs at home. Store my 7"s in comic book boxes.
2moreinches
With an expedit, approximately how many records fit on a shelf? I'm considering buying one but don't know how many shelved I'll need
synapsistapped
With an expedit, approximately how many records fit on a shelf? I'm considering buying one but don't know how many shelved I'll need I fit about 60 in each cube, packed reasonably tight (tight enough that they are all upright, but loose enough so that they slide out easily). See here.
